I thought Keating would've got been picked up by an NL Club after you got relegated.

Not sure we would have even kept him on if we had stayed up. Could never fault him for heart and effort but a bit of a headless chicken until this season.

Was rumoured to be thinking of going back to Ireland when Owers was here but he's come on leaps and bounds under Johnson adding some real quality to his fantastic attitude.

He stuck with them, No Matter What. some would say he has a Father and Son relationship with the manager

:bg:

We're still waiting for Uncle Ronan to come and do the half-time draw at Plainmoor.

Wilkinson signed permanently back in late January, if we keep him we should make play offs. I’ve heard he might be going your way as you’ve matched the small £40k buy out clause in his contract, be stupid if we do let him go.

I guess I’d reluctantly take Wilkinson and McCallum as replacements for the sadly departing Harrold and Alabi.

Big mistake to sign him and not start him, proved at other places he can turn quite sour if you do this. Easily good enough for league two but if you have better I would not bother. Him and Balanta got 20 goals between them for half a season, we will be up the top end if they stay.

Eastleigh have shared details of their retained list, with four players being released.

The Spitfires finished in the final play-off place in the Vanarama National League under Ben Strevens, going on to beat Wrexham in the quarter-final after extra-time. They would be eliminated in the semi-final by Salford City on penalties.

The club have now opted to release Ollie Dennett, Lewis Harvey, Chris Zebroski and James Constable. The players to be offered new deals are Josh Hare, Andrew Boyce, Oscar Gobern, Cavaghn Miley, Paul McCallum, Ben Williamson, Mark Yeates, Danny Hollands and Joey Jones.

Jack McKnight, Ross Flitney, Tom Bearwish. Michael Green, Callum Baughan, Alex Wynter and Reda Johnson remain in contract, have signed new deals or have triggered appearance-based clauses.

Is this the end of Eastleigh now? If they had the funds, surely they'd resign Boyce, Hollands, Yeates and McCallum?

Seems like a misleading retained list, more like a partial retained list plus a wish list. They can offer McCallum a new deal all they like, there's no way he's staying.

A mate of mine knows Paul McCallum personally - He Told him that he was unlikely to re-sign at Eastleigh as he wanted to move closer back to London and to a league side, particularly if he scored a lot of goals in a season which he has now done.

Small chance he will come back to us, but I think he will move elsewhere.

Boyce was terrible for us, one of the worst CBs I'd ever seen until last year when along came Louis Lang paired up with the woeful Scott Harrison.

Worse than Myles Anderson? Blimey! He is by some distance the worst centre half I've ever seen playing for us.

I was sceptical when we signed him as no one rated him and true to form he got off to a shakey start but he's surprised us all since around November/December. Been a colossus at the back in some games. Got the odd rick in him but totally committed and no shrinking violet which is surprising considering he's a public school boy.

In massive danger of a new deal.

Myles has been a different player since that donkey Alabi knocked his teeth out, I’d offer him another year easily.

We've just announced our list. Oh shit....

Contracted players:
Stuart Nelson, Carl Dickinson, Gary Warren, Omar Sowunmi, Tom James, Daniel Ojo, Matt Worthington, Gabriel Rogers, Courtney Duffus, Ryan Seager.
Out of contract players and Academy Graduates offered new deals:
Craig Alcock, Alex John and Nestor Shako.
Released players:
Adel Gafaiti, Bevis Mugabi, Jake Gray, Rhys Browne, Alex Fisher, Sessi D'Almeida, Alefe Santos, Yoann Arquin, Francois Zoko.

It's unbelievable that we've let Fisher, Mugabi, Gafaiti and Sessi leave for nothing. This only means one thing, we have even less money than we all thought. This is going to be a horrible season and that's from someone who's had to put up with the last four years of bilge.

You'll be able to raise some funds selling Sowunmi? He had quite a lot of interest in him last summer didn't he?

I would expect Bevis Mugabi to be snapped up very quickly. It's criminal we haven't even hung on to get compo for him.

Is that Jake Gray the lad from Luton? He was a classy player for us, he gone to shit?

Kevin Roberts is shite, Carrington is far better in that role but I reckon we'll sign a new RB. Hopefully we don't spunk our money on one though.

Happy to see the back of Holroyd and Augustien appears to have a poor attitude. It just never worked for Deverdics here.

Annoyed to see Grant is staying on, as he won't be on a small wage either. Looks as though Barrow has screwed us over by including a clause that would allow him to stay should he play enough games, or allowed him to just trigger an extension if he likes it here.

If Rutherford is back in the starting lineup I'll be very disappointed.

Rest I'm fine with.
Roberts has gone one season too many. He was never the most agile, but last season he was pretty decent in 1v1 situations down the wing and stopping the cross, now he just can’t do it anymore. I understand why BH chose him in the play offs, because experience can be key and he is a proven winner and someone who knows how to get out of this league, but in hindsight he should have gone with Carrington.. not that it would have changed much mind. I’d rather someone with pace at right back next season though, we had so much space down the right this season but nobody to exploit it. It killed a lot of our attacks.

Feel for Holroyd, he’s had injuries, but he’s also been pushed into a role that’s a bit alien to him, which made him lose confidence. We saw the real Holroyd under Keates. I have no doubts that he’ll score at least 10 next season if he stays in this league.
I’d have given Kemy the chance to impress us in pre season because there’s definitely a footballer in there, but like you say, maybe it’s his attitude that’s ultimately forced the decision.

I thought Grant looked good in the play offs, he was quite clever with his passing and very nearly scored. Problem is we played too deep so people like Grant and Beavon looked poor (although I liked Beavon) because they had to do most of their work 30-40 yards away from goal and neither have any pace. Push the team forward up the pitch and they’d be more dangerous.

Thought we looked a lot better when Rutherford came on in midfield, as he brought that energy and zippy style that he has. Wouldn’t have shed a tear if he was let go, but he’d be key if you’re going for a pressing style of play or someone trying to move the left back and keep him back.

Not sure if Darlo's list has been put up on here. So if not here goes.

Retained:
  • Jonny Burn (CB)
  • Simon Ainge (CB)
  • Terry Galbraith (CB)
  • Tom Elliott (CM)
  • Mitchell Glover (CM)
  • Joe Wheatley (CM)
  • Stephen Thompson (RW)
Club exercised 1 year options on:
  • Luke Trotman (RB)
  • Jordan Nicholson (CAM)
Released:
  • Jonny Maddison (GK) - Never seemed to happen for him here, made a clanger on the opening day of the season, and often dropped one here and there every few games. Shame, he came with lots of promise.
  • Alex Henshall (LW) - The lad has a lovely story about rejecting Fergie and Man U as a youth... but that's about all he has unfortunately. Injuries and whatever else have taken their toll and he offered close to nothing this season.
  • Ben O'Hanlon (LB) - Moved to Hendesford half way through last season. Had been commuting from Telford area to play for us and wanted to be closer to home.
Loanee's returning to their parent clubs:
  • Jake Turner (GK) - Bolton
  • Ben Jackson (LB) - Huddersfield
  • Will Smith (CB) - Barnsley
  • Romal Palmer (CM) - Barnsley
  • Kit Elliott (CF) - Huddersfield
  • Harvey Saunders (CF) - Fleetwood

I take it Jordan Nicholson being retained means that he's no longer falling over every time a player comes within 5 yards of his like he did when he was here?

He's been one of the few bright points for us this season. Really good in that Central Attacking Midfield position getting the ball in between Midfield and CB's and running at CB's. Can take shots either side and has scored 11 this season. He's a little bit lightweight and can be pushed off the ball at times. But as I say his return in a poor team made him more than worth a contract for next season.
