Jalal was probably a little unlucky to get released by us since he was 1st choice in a league winning team.
He was certainly one of the weaker starting 11 though and I can see why he got released - he just drops a few too many clangers.
18 clean sheets and Team of the Year doesn't sound all that bad though?

Top 8 keeper at this level but not good enough for League 2. He is very good 3 in every 4 games, but then costs you a goal in the other 1 of the 4 games. He’s a decent signing for you at this level, but it was also the correct decision for us to release when making the step up to the FL.

With regards to his place in the team of the year - I struggle to believe there aren’t better keepers in the NL. He cost us points on several occasions with his clangers. The clean sheets figure was helped significantly by an excellent back four.

See what other Macc fans think.

He is a really nice guy. Your fans will have a lot of time for him.

As mentioned above, some Orient fans still blame Jalal for our automatic L1 promotion charge going off the rails in 2014. He was terribly out of his depth.

Good afternoon,

I think Wedgebury is a limited player but committed. Puts a shift in. He'll be a decent signing for Chesterfield. Looks a bit like a nerd in his specs. Has a pot belly.

Take care.

There are many examples of keepers having a good season, then following it up with a terrible one (or vice versa). Some keepers just lose it, either because of the errors they’ve made, their age or other factors.
Look at Joe Hart, once a quality keeper at Man City, couldn’t even hang onto the no.1 jersey at West Ham and subsequently dumped out of the England side.
I remember when we signed Matt Baker (no, not that one) from Hereford. Looked a great keeper, including a good game against us and was pretty terrible for us before being shipped out.
Chris Maxwell - Not liked by some here because he didn’t come for crosses often. Now Preston’s no.1 and in the Wales squad.
John Ruddy - Truly terrible when on loan here, now back in the Premier League with Wolves.
Luke Coddington - Looked solid when on loan here a few seasons ago, didn’t seem to have many faults. Went to Guiseley and apparently was awful and benched.
And finally Jon Flatt (who fans have linked with us) - Didn’t look great in his loan spell here, but next season went to Cheltenham and won the league with them, then I think he even got a move at League 1 level.

Consistent keepers are few and far between these days.

Wouldn't sign Jon Flatt if I were you. We got him on loan in a 3 game spell here from Wolves earlier this season when our number 1 was injured. Was absolutely awful. We lost all 3 with him being at fault for a lot of the goals we conceded in those games.

Based off his performance in the Trophy final I would say the Bromley keeper?

Yeah I wouldn’t be completely convinced with his signing, but he must have something about him to win the league. Pretty sure he was Cheltenham’s keeper all season.

Re. Wedgbury I can only echo what has already been said. A workhorse who will sit in front of the defence, but will also chase lost causes. Criticised here by some for his lack of creativity and passing ability, but that was never his job. He does give away stupid fouls now and again though and also has a weird tendency to do an over the top dive when an opponent breathes on him. Kinda looks like a failed attempt at doing ‘The Worm’.

Me and a mate used to run a comedy "WedgeWatch" when he played for us, bonus points if he ever made a forward pass but mostly just enjoying a solid shift being put in.

Don't think I seen him pass the ball forward once in a Wrexham shirt last season, works hard in defensive duties but useless in attack.

He'll be better than Joe Anyon I'm sure of that, so I'm happy!
Jalal's a pretty standard Conference keeper, just let down by all the mistakes he makes. Plus he's pretty injury prone. Other than that he stops shots well, (mostly) alright from crosses and (again mostly) good with his feet. And a good leader.

Chesterfield could certainly have done worse than to sign him,I'm a little surprised it's a two year deal though.

That’s impossible. We’re tinpot and play in a ground surrounded by horses. Just ask Chesterfield who are going to tear us to pieces and then make us wash their kit.
Ha! Bromley with decent players? Going mad I tell you.

That just shows how clueless some fans are (not a Wrexham thing just football fans in general)

See also Jonathan Walters.

For every club legend there is a small handful of fans insisting that they are shit.
