Ryan’s a good lad, if he was fit he’d be in the league, but I just don’t see that he’ll change in that regard. Especially under that fraud McCarthy who is responsible for him getting more unfit in the first place.

They aren't paying a transfer fee for this player - just a bumper signing on fee and extortionate wages. And it's unfair to say who this is on my source, because I was told in confidence. My point was less about the player in question (some will have heard of him, some probably not, as with any other non-league player), but more about the money I think Salford might be about to throw around. If they're paying this for this player, then MasterD is right and their budget might be around the £2mn/£3mn mark.

That is wildly off. It was closer to a nominal fee than six figures.

It's larger than top end L2. Four years ago we were paying (I think IIRC) £1.7m p/a which was pretty much League One median (although obviously will have increased since, no way is it pushing £3m.)

The wage cap is kinda useless. All Gary Neville needs to do is pay £1m for his seat in the stadium and that's that.

Depends what you include in your "footballing" budget but our total "footballing" spend last year was £3.3 million and the Finance Director says that it was approx 25% on coaches and back up staff, 75% on players. The budget figure is likely to be £3million for the coming season.

he is a class act. the tolls of working/living away from home has taken its toll, he is getting married this summer and wants to start a family. cant argue more than that.

with regards to keeping hold of him, we would have been lucky to get more than £10-20k for him. having him in contract at maybe £1k a week (for arguments sake) means we would not gain much by having him still on our books if we sold him on

Sam Barratt is gone so not necessarily. You'll do very well to get Pritchard and I'm amazed no FL clubs are in for him. He's certainly more ready for L1 than Barratt.

Pritchard isn't under contract is he? I agree that we would do very well to get him. I must say I'm surprised that Barratt's got the Southend move, as I don't recall hearing too much about him throughout the year.

Yeah, had the pleasure of watching him lollop around doing nowt for a season and a half. Presumably he's no fitter, but his passing was poor and apart from a goal on his debut, I don't remember him getting anywhere near the box. Saw out his days playing the McNulty role, but hasn't got the positional awareness for that.

Fair enough, thanks for the assessment both!

Seems to have a bit about him having played over 200 games at a higher level, and still only 25. Think he will be used as a centre-mid / attacking midfielder as a bit of a foil for Styche. Let's see what he can do, I doubt he is on longer than a one-year deal.

Looking at those goals he scored he surely must have some talent?

He'll have Alan White to sort him out, so he should be ok under Tommy Wright's guidance.
