Surely that isn't the same Adam Smith that we were all told by the Wrexham fans that is REALLY GOOD when he signed for them in the summer, is it?

:smug:
I don't think any of us knew who he was.

He did ok in preseason. Got injured and couldnt get back into the team (who were doing ok at the time)

Our crowds have been higher than expected and we'll be offloading some of the deadwood this month, hence we've a bit more to spend. But yes, if we don't go up this year our budget for next season will be a lot smaller, so we need to give it everything now.

Exactly this, and I suspect this is why Holman only has a 6 month deal. I imagine it's 6 months with clause stating he'll get another couple of years, probably on better terms, if we get promoted, but if not then new discussions will be had (with him more than likely going on a free.)

They are, but of those three only Wright is an out-and-out striker. Munns is a midfielder and Waters, though he has been playing up front, I would expect to shift to midfield. When Morgan-Smith returns we'll have him, Wright, Waters and Holman to choose from - 40 goals between those four so far this season.

Again, exactly right. It wouldn't surprise me to see Billy drop to the bench, even with his record. He's not scored for three games now and earlier in the season he was used as an impact sub.

Luton may not at the minute be a top League 2 club based on league position, but they are a massive League 2 club based on fanbase etc, so to beat off competition from them you have done very well indeed IMO

Got no inside knowledge whatsoever but i would be very surprised if we had any interest in him to be honest. We have at least 3 players who fit his type already, one of those being a promising looking player in Jack Marriott, another in Josh McQuoid who has looked decent at times and himself is currently only on the bench and of course Mackail Smith who is no doubt on big money. If we were going to bring someone in in that area I'd think it would be a player to replace Benson in not really a player like Holman.

That with the fact we dont have a manager at present i would be very surprised if we were one of the supposed League 2 clubs who were interested.

How's Smith been for you? Not that he'll be back with us, thanks for your goal at Kiddie Adam, best of luck.
He's done ok so far, he always seems to get a cross into the box. Still working on match fitness with him not playing much before he came to us.
More to come from him i think.

Altrincham fail to sign any players. In other news, sun rises daily.

CONTRACT REWARD FOR LINDON MEIKLE
Wednesday Jan 6, 2016

WITH REDS TO END OF 2016/17 SEASON

pic_250_Lindon%20Meikle%20250px.jpg
Alfreton Town have signed experienced winger Lindon Meikle on contract to the end of the 2016/17 season.

Meikle, 27, joined the Reds initially on a month's non contract basis on December 2nd, 2015 following his release by Macclesfield Town, and the contract is reward for his excellent displays including hitting the winner in a 2-1 victory at Tamworth on Boxing Day.

The Reds beat competition from Vanarama National League side Barrow for his signature and Reds manager Nicky Law said: "I am delighted to have signed Lindon and really pleased he has committed himself to the club. He has been a big part of our recent mini revival and hope he can continue in the same vein.

"He has fitted in well with the lads and I think it's a very good signing for us. I am also delighted that Wayne (Bradley) has backed the move."

Meikle joined Macclesfield in September 2015 from York City and made seven appearances for the Silkmen.

The hard working winger has a National League winners' medal with Mansfield Town for whom he made over 100 appearances during his time with them in both the Conference and League Two.

His performances during his first season with Mansfield earned him three England C caps in the 2011/12 campaign.

Lindon started his career at Eastwood Town, where he scored 22 goals in 87 appearances.

He joined York in July 2014 and added twenty-eight games to his tally without scoring

Seems like a good signing for Conference North. We're quite well-stocked for wingers, so I guess he wasn't a priority, though location and maybe showing a bit of loyalty to his new club probably played a part. We signed Jordan Williams who plays as a striker/winger, so I would say we didn't really need Meikle as well.

Connor Townsend has signed for Scunthorpe.

Huge huge blow, miles and miles away the best left back in this league and absolutely instrumental in our 6 game winning streak.

He's no Aswad Thomas. You should get him back.

Dan Lavercombe to Wigan confirmed, but loaned back to Torkee for rest of the season.

Nothing confirmed about Danny Whitehead doing the same from us as of yet.

Much as it was expected to lose Townsend it is still a really big blow.
We were shit down the left on Saturday, Monkhouse and Robertson just kept passing it back to each other and wouldn't take their right back on like Townsend would have done.

To be fair though we always had a midfielder backing up our full backs with a centre back ready to step in if one of them broke through. That's how you scored eventually, centre back started to approch and he couldn't head the cross cleanly as he was out of position. It fell perfectly for Amond who was right place, right time - quality striker :)
I can't believe that result led to a 17 page thread on 'The Fishy'!

If you think that's bad, have a look at Aldershot's forum. There's six different threads about Woking plus a 16-page match thread. Yet, apparently, we were celebrating like it was our cup final on Jan 2nd and Reading are their actual rivals. :dk:

While you're here, any chance of us getting Marriott on loan?

Terry Hawkridge signs permanently following his release from Scunthorpe.

Nothing official on the OS, but he's said he's signed on Twitter. 18-month deal apparently.

If it were up to me i would say there was no chance of that happening at all, but with the new manager you never know i guess he might see him and not rate him.

Personally would like to see him play over Mackail Smith, not the finished article by any means but i really rate him from what i have seen.

A fit Adam Smith will do well for you, decent player with a great cross, he was your stand out player against us. I tried to persuade him to come back to us during the window but the reason he left Wrexham was the travelling too much as he's Sheffield based, so he wasn't keen on coming back south, though I would have happily put him up again.
