Don't you just think that it might be an idea to see him play in a Grimsby Town shirt before being all melodramatic. On one hand you have the Lincoln fans slating him, on the other hand you have Wrexham fans who say he was pretty decent for them and wanted him to stay.

What I will say is that I'm glad there weren't any internet forums around when we signed Paul Futcher!

Fucking hell, we need a decent centre-half and who do we sign, a 35 year old has-been who can't even get in Halifax's Reserves.
You'll find most Lincoln fans do so, although 'slate' is a bit harsh, because of his attitude more than anything. Most will tell you there is something there, but that 'something' hasn't appeared in his 2½ years and it was accepted about 2 seasons ago that he didn't suit our style of play.

The attitude things go back to his Stockport days, not just us, and I'm sure Wrexham would have ended up with the same after a season or so.

Jon Nolan will only do what Jon Nolan wants and if he asked to do anything else or adapt his game even slightly for the good of the team, it shows in his performances and that tag, unfortunately, will follow him around for the rest of his career unless he snaps out of it sharpish.

Our fans are mainly blinded by those facts though Luke. It doesn't matter because we signed Paul Futcher 30 years ago and he did well, so why won't Nolan?

It's not only this, but all our recent signings seem to be back up players. If we're not quite good enough just yet, why are we signing players to play in the FA Trophy? We should be signing players to turn some of our starters into back up players, such is the new guys quality.

And have you thought that maybe those sort of players are a struggle to get, or maybe do not want to play for Grimsby Town?
If there are players who are 100% gonna improve us and are willing to come then of course Hurst would sign them.
The fact that he has taken a bit of a gamble here suggests that the squad improvers that you talk about are either not available, or simply do not want to come here.

IF he's as good as he thinks he is why didn't Wrexham sign him if he fitted in so well there?
Thought he signed for a team over in the north west.

Did Nolan kill someone in Lincoln?

Apparently Kieffer Moore had a chance to join Cheltenham, but turned them down, he's obviously seen that Gary Johnson is just constantly moaning and the wheels are shaking...
:brill:
We're on the verge of signing a centre half (expected tomorrow) and a winger.
See what pans out.

What about Magnay and Amond? Were you bowled over by the signings of a Gateshead reject and a Morecambe striker with a fairly poor goal return?

I've been told Jon Nolan turned up with an agent yesterday. Is that a thing at this level?

So, the 3rd striker to leave this month and still no sign of a replacement for Mangan yet. We've lost Mangan, Tomlinson and now Margetts but have yet to bring anyone in to replace them, which means the replacement is either so expensive it takes losing 3 players to fund them or Brabin is taking one hell of a gamble on people he deemed not good enough just 6 months ago tidying us over until we can get someone.

As for Margetts, he's the infamous 'Trialist H' from pre-season, where he scored for fun. However, he's barely had a look in since then, playing and scoring 2 against Bromley being his only real contribution of note. He's a great finisher and just knows where to be but if he's not on it he contributes nothing else to the build up play. I wouldn't be surprised if he banged in 5+ league goals in his month spell and I wouldn't be surprised if he got none. He's just that type of player. I'd have liked him to get a chance with us, so take that how you will.

Are we (Dover) the only club who haven't signed anybody yet in January?

Scored a shit load in pre season then hasn't really been given a chance since, sounds like he's done pretty well at Stockport though.

Seems a ridiculous decision send him back out unless we've got someone else lined up. Norwood's been struggling with a stomach illness which he only got the all clear from yesterday, GTF's spent most of the time injured or unable to play more than 50 minutes and Stockton just doesn't look good enough. Since the start of the transfer window we've got rid of Mangan, Tomlinson and now Margetts and only signed Jeff Hughes. Big risk if we've not already got something sorted to replace them.

Cheers for the info. We'll see what happens then - it's a busy period for us, with a few rearranged games to squeeze in, so he should get a few games at least.

Just to stir the pot, I'm thinking Cox is planning for Andy Cook's replacement - he's pursuing big strikers (I know he likes long ball and that...) and there's no talk of renewing Cook's contract. Off to Tranmere for a small fee?

It's funny how badly his career has gone, some fgr fans thought he was the best striker in the league, I've always said he was shit which is why me and him don't get on too well...

Not a "top bloke" then?

Thought he was very good whenever I saw him a few years back, looked the better player of the two when it was him and Mangan getting the goals for you lot. Good for Kiddy to get a wage off the books, someone can potentially pick up a bargain in him if they can get him back to his best, possibly dropping down to conference south level to do so. A good move for all parties as it clearly isn't working.

I wouldn't have thought so. Brabin is actively seeking a big striker too.

Ross Lafayette confirmed until the end of the season. Always done well against us, will probably turn into a sack of shite for us.

Injuries have wrecked his career tbf. Not the same player he was when he first signed for us. The fact that he scored 9 goals in half a season in a shite skint team fighting relegation playing up front alongside the likes of Isaiah Rankin and Tomi Ameobi showed that he had potential. Did well for a while after the takeover in a much stronger side as well, but had a tendency to get silly bookings.

Off the pitch he is genuinely a top bloke, whatever FGRjc might think, great with fans especially kids, always happy to chat sign autographs take photos etc. One of those players that actually seemed to care about the club.

Shame he's never reached his potential, but if it doesn't work out anywhere he's still got the plumbing to fall back on, so he'll do alright for himself.

George Bowerman from Altrincham to Telford on loan for a month.

Lee Sinnott clearly doesn't fancy him at all - a la Greg Wilkinson and Steven Gillespie, he's had him on the bench for weeks, with 5 minutes here and there. Fair play to him for shipping Bowerman out though - from a promising start, he's been disappointing (a la Wilkinson and Gillespie).
