Another one Housham loves.

Russell was half decent for us I thought. He was a 7/10 every week, nothing fancy or anything, worked hard, reliable and had a decent final ball but lacked any sort of pace.

Yeah, KA was pissing himself at the time. Couldn't believe you didn't want him/agree terms.

I bet he was! We were in League One at the time and Sammy McIlroy had a thing for signing very small players.

Both our CB's that season were only 6ft. So teams rocked up with a big striker and we couldn't deal with them. Seem to remember one game against Bradford where Dele Adebola just destroyed our two centre backs. Embarrassing it was!

Same when he was here was one of my favourite players at the time

NFU have signed Brogan now, another average Conference North player who finished in the bottom half at Gainsborough :animatedf:

Brogan did very well at Trinity to be fair.

I used to rate Brogan highly but from what I saw and from what his stats suggest, he didn't seem rip up any trees last season. Best signing so far probably but isn't saying much.

Joe Howe, after being released by us, had joined Bromley. Would have been kept but seems he had a falling out with the manager. Shame, as he's very good.

Ferriby have got one of the relegation spots sewn up already judging by the quality (or lack thereof) of their signings.

Ferriby really could well be the new "Hyde".
It rumours are to be believed, they have no intention of trying to get the ground up National standard...so will be getting relegated no matter how they do.

I've never been to Ferriby, how bad is their ground?
Tiny thing on an allotment, flat and open on three sides and then one covered side with 3/4 rows, seats in the middle, standing on both wings. Does have annoying little supporting pillars all the way along though. Probably holds about 2,500ish at a push.

Yeah, I wasn't a very big fan of it when we went there in the Trophy! Clubhouse was OK though.

OK, so pretty basic then, but surely they must have met the grading requirements for the Conference North otherwise they probably wouldn't have been admitted. I guess they have a certain amount of time to reach the grading requirements of the National League, or they would most likely be relegated.

I think it is fair to say that, with some notable exceptions, a few grounds in the National League could do with a bit of attention. Most of the former league clubs have excellent grounds, that are a pleasure to visit, and at the same time there are clubs who are constantly improving their facilities with a long term view towards promotion. The standard has undoubtedly improved since I started watching non-league football many years ago and I don't doubt that that trend will continue.

Brogan used to be a decent player at National level. Played for FGR if I remember correctly?

Good set piece taker.

He did, was with us for a couple of seasons but only played a dozen or so games in that time. I can't honestly say that I remember seeing him play that often, which isn't surprising given the amount of times he played for us, but I think he may have fallen out of favour around the end of the Hockaday era and wasn't required by Pennock.

Braintree have signed Lee Barnard and Craig Braham-Barrett.

Barnard used to be amazing, but seems to have died off a bit last few seasons?

Yep Barnards last record at Crawley was 28 total appearances 14, (14 as sub) 1 goal in total. I fear for Braintree next season.

Scored a memorable last minute winner at Macc. Had ability but didn't get many chances or seem to fit into whatever system it was DH was trying to play. He was also injured a fair bit.

His double leg break wrecked his career really.

Yeah he always seemed lacking in confidence which is no surprise as he never seems to get a decent run in the team because of either injury or managerial selection preferences.
On a side note, look out for the way he holds his arms that make it look like he is carrying an invisible handbag.
