Alfreton have signed former Grimsby defender Josh Gowling on a 1 month loan from Torquay. Seems to have had a unhappy time at Torquay. Signed as some defensive as even at this early stage we seem to be racking up injures and down to the bare bones

Excellent news, him and Danny Rowe IMO are the two best strikers in this league.

Reviews from my Coventry supporting mates aren't particularly brilliant but he's dropped a level so may turn out to be good enough for us in this league.

Nevertheless, glad to see us strengthening as the squad appears to be carrying a few injuries at the moment.

He was past his best last year with us, at a lower level than you are at now. He couldn't last longer than 70 minutes then either. You must be genuinely desperate to be signing him.

I thought Reid was excellent on his day last season when we had him on loan. Beat his man nine times out of ten through his sheer power. Very capable if he's in the mood.

That's good to hear - I trust in Martin Allen to build a team good enough to challenge this year and hopefully Reid will play a part in that.

I wasn't sure about us signing Marc Antoine Fortune at 37 years old after the way S Ebanks Blake and O'Grady turned out, but so far MAF has had a positive impact.

Yep. Prone to the odd rash challenge, but will give 100% and run through walls for you. Was vastly improved last year and I was disappointed he didn’t stay with us.

He’s what I would call ‘functional’. If he has ballplayers around him he is very effective at what he does, and that’s break up play and getting attacks started. Don’t expect mazy dribbles and beating three players, though he does have the odd 30 yard screamer in his locker.
