Sam Ramsbottom was a reasonable back up keeper at NL level - he should be pretty decent at NLN north level.

Just watched Muggleton's highlight reel of the last 4 years. Literally 90% of it is long throws. There's a game against FGR where he hits the bar twice with them? Insanity.

We've signed Jordan Maguire-Drew on season long loan from Brighton.

He was probably the signing I was most excited about this time last year. Was pretty hopeless for us, didn't seem to want to work hard. Rumours of poor attitude and approach to fitness. As I said a real shame going off his great season with the Daggers.

So he's decent then..?

I think the Lincoln and Coventry move came too early for him. At us, he was very raw but had moments of brilliance that would win games. However, the National League is obviously not as good as League 2.

Excellent left foot. But yes, some work to do in regards of tracking back although I thought by the end of his spell with us, he'd got the hang of it after being drilled by Still for a season. Maybe he thought he'd hit the big time already when he went to Lincoln.

Still, I'd have him back in a flash and he'll add some creative spark for Wrexham.

Maguire-Drew is a bit of a coup at this level. He showed last time at Dagenham that he’s far too good to be down here. We definitely won’t be short of creativity this season which is a huge relief after last season. Sam’s quietly gone under the radar and put together a decent looking side on paper.

JMD obviously did well at Dagenham a couple of years ago and he was the one that Lincoln fans thought would turn out to be one of the signings of the season but he was absolute dog shit here. Had his loan cut short, moved to Coventry and after 3 games there, they also dropped him and got stick off their fans.

Strong rumours of a questionable attitude and work rate, thinking he was still pissing about in pedestrian U23 football and a lack of desire to improve his fitness (not that he was unfit per se, he just wasn't fit enough to last more than an hour).

Way, way, way off FL standard on last seasons showing.

That's because 90% of his touches are with his hands. His team-mates see him in training every day and know it's not a good idea to pass to him!

Seems like a decent signing and gives us some experience at the back.

Two more signings expected today, one of them is likely to be Dan Holman, hopefully the other is a keeper.
Karleigh Osborne is a very good signing for you I really rated him here.
Probably your second best signing of the Summer - after Josh Lelan.

Holman is our 3rd and final signing of the day, as expected
I think he is a good signing for you, Waddocks style of play will suit him.

He came to us last season and wasn't fully fit, he scored one goal which he got credited for - But it was more of an own goal, his wayward shot went in off the back of Tranmeres goalkeeper and to this day he has somehow got the credit for it!

Technically he linked up well at times with Macauley Bonne, but he lacked a bit of killing instinct in front of goal, missing a few guilt edged chances.

I've seen players like him come to us before, he promised alot by didn't quite deliver. John Marquis did the same with us, looked alright overall but only scored one goal. Then he banged in 25 for Doncaster the following season.

Marquis was clearly quality, but we never played him in his actual position... Holman wasn't bad, don't get me wrong, but he was too slow reacting to the situation for me - taking an extra touch, not spotting the obvious run being the main two. If he can work on that he'll be an excellent player.

So do Aldershot expect to be in the promotion mix again?

Yesterday we signed 34 year old ex Huddersfield, Orient and Bradford centre back Nathan Clarke and 21 year old former Hull striker Jonathan Edwards who had a loan spell at Woking last season. Also just announced right back Michael Duckworth has signed a new deal with the club. Really happy with that!

Clarkey is a fantastic leader off the pitch, his legs may have gone on it though, this should be his level now. Think he and his brother Tom who plays for Preston are both from Halifax. He was excellent for us 5 years ago. Will get a good reception when he comes back here.

Yes he’s a Halifax lad so it makes sense. We needed more experience and a leader and he provides that. He’s been on trial in pre season and looked ok but his legs have gone as you say. Will do a decent job at this level still though imo
