We've signed Sam Muggleton after a long trial. Can play full back or wide midfield, has a ridiculous throw in by all accounts.

When you’ve got John Parkin up front and he still couldn’t get a game tells you everything.

I’ll never forget the time he threw it straight over the stand

Well at least they've not paid a fee for him like Eastleigh did. If it weren't for his long throw he wouldn't be playing above step 10 in the pyramid. Even with his long throw, apart from a team managed by Allen, he's fallen down the leagues.

That said, if there was a real plan behind using his throw in, then they might be worth something as a special teams play, in the same way that Stoke would exploit Delap's. But unless things have changed, the plan is usually to hurl them into the box and hope for the best.

Delap was a perfectly adequate footballer though. Muggleton didn't last five minutes at York in the division below, then ended the season playing in the Northern Prem Division One North... I'm pretty sure Muggleton has incriminating evidence on Allen.

I'm not comparing footballing abilities, just pointing out that if you are going to have a player in your ranks so you can employ a very obvious tactic, it probably makes sense to work on that tactic, rather than just leave it down to chance.

I was being generous on Muggleton's playing ability. I would be disappointed if he was picked in a 5-a-side over me.

Or his dad also works at the club..

Haha - I can't say I've ever seen (or noticed) Muggleton play, but I love the responses every time someone signs him!

Isn't this the 5th time Allen's signed him? He's only 22 as well!

Chesterfield fans you will get annoyed when Muggles starts games.... He really is an awful player.... It says it all when Allen signs a player to tighten up and protect a lead. What he is saying is take off a creative player at 60 minutes and invite pressure with Muggles throwing the ball into the keepers hands

Like don’t get me wrong, in terms of his strengths his throw is an absolute monster. Definitely one of the biggest, if not the biggest currently in professional football. He’s also a genuinely lovey guy who remains upbeat and confident despite all of the abuse he gets from the stands. He’s only young too (21ish maximum).

However, he just can’t actually play football. He’s a liability when on the field as he just lacks any ability whatsoever. Your whole style of play has to switch in order to not only allow you to gain an advantage from his throw, but also to protect/shield him when on the pitch. As said above, he dropped down 4 divisions in the space of a season in order to find football anywhere near a level matching his ability.

Sounds like this Sam Muggleton is living the life he does courtesy of others, Myles Anderson is another.

With us now, hasn't looked the part in pre season so I'm told. He's probably not a starter though.

They say he can play in multiple positions but he only plays left midfield because we were terrified of playing him at left back so much of a liability. Braintree away springs to mind.

Echo all of the above on Muggleton. As Urban says the team has to adapt to his lack of ability. You will be astonished by how little time the ball spends at his feet during a game - that's because his team-mates generally won't pass to him as they are fully aware of how technically poor he is.

This really stood out in a county cup game at Staines where Rossi Eames took charge. Unlike the first team under Allen, Rossi liked the reserves to keep the ball on the floor but Muggleton just couldn't do it. When he got the ball he'd dither and his team-mates would come out of position to give him a really easy short pass, but he had no faith in himself to even do that so he'd just hoof it up the park while the rest of the team tried to keep it on the floor.

Ah, the Luisma for Muggleton sub. I get why Allen used to do it, as Luisma was unfit to play 90 minutes and offered little defensively, but seeing one of the most technically gifted players I've ever seen at this level getting replaced by a javelin thrower was infuriating.

In Muggleton's defence, he is far from the worst player I've seen at Barnet in terms of overall contribution. Probably the worst technically, but there was never a lack of effort and his long throw at least served a purpose. A better LB than Andre Blackman for sure.

Jesus Christ I'd forgotten about him and we only had him last season. A quick Google says he's not signed or been linked with anyone since we got rid. He's probably the worst signing I've seen our club make. An awful player and personality. God knows what compelled us to sign him from Crawley.

I wish you’d all stop sitting on the fence and just say whether you rate Sam Muggleton or not.

Braintree have signed goalkeeper Ben Killip, here last year but only played a few games while McKeown was injured but didn’t really do anything wrong that I can remember.
Good signing for them I think.

Myles Anderson was one of our better players last season … says it all I suppose.

Barnet sign Latvia youth international keeper Rihards Matrevics from West Ham. He will be backup to Mark Cousins.

Seems like a decent signing and gives us some experience at the back.

Two more signings expected today, one of them is likely to be Dan Holman, hopefully the other is a keeper.

Presume this was the guy in goal on Monday? Made some good saves if so.

I'm encouraged by this as Still talked about bringing in a more experienced goalkeeper as number two at the Q&A night a few weeks back, so clearly this guy must have impressed him to change his mind.

Yeah, he's played in all the PSFs bar West Brom.
