Alfreton have signed midfielder David Lynch from Southport for an undisclosed fee! Not the signing I was expecting...

Had a spell last season under Billy Heath at Altrincham. Was impressive during his time at Halifax. Hopefully Billy can get the best out of him again because for whatever reason it just hasnt worked for him at Southport.

Seems a decent bloke, and he was an integral part of our upturn in form last season through his leadership more than his football. He seemed to lose his way towards the end of last season, and has found this season that running about, pointing and shouting just isn't enough. He'll give everything for the cause, but as a player he appeared limited for this level. I wish him well.

Meanwhile we've replaced him with a kid from Bolton on loan.

Performances weren’t impressive early on and looked a dud signing. Recently the effort and energy levels have improved but he’s still short of the mark.

He's alright. He's a trier. Loves a big crunching tackle. Limited going forward. Nice guy. Slightly on the injury prone side, at least with us. Should be very decent at this level I'd have thought. Doesn't do loads wrong. Vegan

He's done nothing wrong here, just a victim of circumstance. Vickers got what we thought was a long term injury so we brought another keeper in on loan, Vickers came back way early than expected and then we were left with a loan keeper whose deal we can't terminate at the minute, Vickers as number 1 who came back in when he was fit and then Smith.

He looked decent enough in the handful of games he played. His distribution was good, good with the ball at his feet and decent enough on crosses (albeit he had a mare with his kicking in his last home game for us). Certainly didn't look out of place an an FL 'keeper, which is a position with the biggest step up IMO.

You lot are giving him a two and a half year deal to be backup keeper & goal keeper coach......with him just about to turn 35 I don't blame him for jumping on that type of offer.
