The football forum accountants are back out in force again I see

This guy was playing part time football at Maidstone before we signed him, I highly doubt we’ve had to break the bank to get him

We offered to make him one of our highest paid players on a 3 year deal, given our highest paid are on 1-2k a week you’ve offered him a good deal more to make it worth his while to uproot his life 100+ miles away. He was offer deals by local league two clubs according to rumours. Chesterfield are no bigger a club than Yeovil so I don’t see agree with them not have a backer. Guess all that money saved on furlough is helping too.

Because I'm a creepy stalker I have tried to get to the bottom of Chesterfield finances.

Two seasons ago their wage bill was apparently north of 2m, last season it was reported as being more like 1.7, and due to be steadily brought down. They had a lot of players on high L2 contracts and they've slowly been shedding these. Its possible to have a decent squad at the 1.5m Mark.

Id imagine Chesterfield, having a new stadium, make far more from the hospitality and leisure facilities the stadium offers than most (all?) other teams in the league. Once crowds come back they will also make a fair bit from the gate, because they will be getting 4000+ crowds. They've taken loans out from various avenues to the tune of 2million, at favourable repayment rates. Id assume they are using this money to fill the hole caused by loss of earnings last season, and are just speculating a bit. Once they start getting their usual income they can cover these costs.

I'm sure I've missed a lot as well, that was just what I could glean from the local press etc. That said players like Danny Rowe, Oyeleke and Khan won't be cheap. I just imagine they are rolling the dice while they can. If they don't go up they may have to tighten their belts a bit

There’s plenty leaving believe me, Rowe has already come out and said this.

As I’ve mentioned on other threads, I’d be extremely surprised if the following players are still here come start of the season:

- Whittle (or Taylor after what we discussed earlier)
- Martin Smith
- Joe Rowley
- Tom Denton (off on loan)

That’s 4 players definitely departing. Worth remembering we still have Asante and Hollis (2 of our key men) out injured until atleast Christmas, so we can’t let too many leave as then we’ll end up short!
Why did you give Denton a new deal if your just sending him out on loan? Billy Heath will be scratching at Rowe's door wanting his prized asset back

Nothing to do with sour grapes more the fact that your lot are claiming he was cheap, he won’t have been cheap he was studying at university down here along side playing part time. As I said we would of offered him a decent sum, claims that it would have been cheap are way off.

Why would you try to get to the bottom of another clubs finances. If its fair and above board I don't blame them in trying to get back to the Football league. Maybe its something Wrexham should have done in the past. How many years have they been in the NL now ?

Alright mate calm down.

Im interested in the league and the teams in it? I dont think there is anything untoward at Chesterfield, I'm genuinely interested in their new ownership model.

Its been 13 years BTW. Hopefully one day we will get back to playing small clubs like Bristol Rovers in their shithole Rugby ground.

As already discussed, Rowe is planning on loaning Denton out short term to build match fitness (he’s been injured for about 7/8 months) in prep for him coming back here fully fit and ready to go for 2nd half of season push.

I personally don’t think it makes much sense and would be better of keeping him here and building him up that way, but that’s the plan

This new Chesterfield/Dagenham rivalry is on course to overtake previous MASSIVE rivalries such as Grimsby/Gateshead, FGR/Halifax and more recently Barnet/Wealdstone.
Nah it’s nothing on the notorious Chesterfield/Gloucester City of last season believe me…

Haha I’d forgotten about that one.

On the subject of rivalries when we were last down here Lincoln fans apparently didn’t see us as rivals (when we used to beat them all the time) but then mysteriously when they got back in the League and got better than us and started beating us we were their big rivals again.

NO chance it tops Wrexham/Barrow though.

Rowe has a lot of pressure on him this season that's for sure. Got to deliver. As I suspect EnglishRed is right when he says that if we do not go up this year then the purse strings will have to tighten next year...

It's not 'go up or bust', the trust just wouldn't let that be a thing, but yea I suspect it's 'here's the money you wanted, make it happen... If not, get a lot less next year' situation

EDIT: I should say there's like 5 teams still ahead of us with the bookies odds! I feel if we finish above Stockport we'll have a big chance, but easier said than done...

From a afar it does seem as if you’re going for the shit or bust option.

From all accounts your manager appears to be quite the acquired taste, but might just do it.

Does he? He's certainly driven and perhaps a tad ruthless but he ain't no Steve Evans!

Oh don’t remind me, horrible person, horrible horrible person. Thankfully nigel clough is nothing like that.

Yeah know quite a few mates in chesterfield, several of the youth team on furlough all of a sudden then next they hear they’ve been released, players on big wages (that’s why i asked what the details were).

Only as i totally believe if we didn’t go up the season we did we’d have been absolutely fucked, kidderminster tried the same they didn’t go up and were fucked.

Either way, anything else other than the top 3 for you guys would have to be seen as a failure with the sheer amount of new players about.

Not hiding behind the fact we'll be one of the favourites and i expect we'll do no worse than last season at the very least.

I don't see this all or nothing approach that other seems to imply, though.
