its only the start. we need another 2 CB minimum, 2 or 3 midfielders then depending what formation Parky plays Wingers and another Striker

I mean in terms of quality/rep rather than numbers. Think both look fine and capable of being part of a good team level, but it’s not yet ‘going for it’ territory.

and the hope is that the quality comes in those remaining signings :)

Couple of very average signings from Wrexham given all the anticipation of mega bucks being spent, surely expecting much bigger things to come?

Assuming the fans think the same?

If they want promotion ASAP like they say then they’ll need to step it up and give Parkinson a proper go at it.

Agree, not going for it signings - I’m guessing they are still to come.

When we had McAlinden I just wanted to shake him. Technically very good but a lack of pace, physicality and ummph to his play hinders him. Never worked out what his best position was either really.

Aldershot (and Boreham Wood, apparently )
Shots now re-signing last seasons defence.
Maybe Danny Searle saw something I missed.
Friendly tomorrow at local level 5 side, trialists A-G expected (I hope).

AdamStag surely you’re not standing for this mucker?

Wouldn’t have looked tbh, as not in the bananarama league.

We don’t have a great history singing players from non league recently so we’ll have to see what happens. when you’ve nigel clough as manager….

Jimmy knowles is surplus to requirements though so would be useful to farm him off to someone like alfreton chesterfield or kings lynn for another year.

I wish you boys luck next season getting back up given well we’ve no-one left in the east midlands as you’re all down here!

They have consistently said they aren't going to come in and buy the league. Im not sure what people are expecting.

I'm pretty happy with the first two signings. Not mind blowing but both good quality additions that meet a hole in the squad. Plenty more to come as well.

Richie Bennett has joined Sutton after leaving Stockport. Surprised he didn’t go to Pools.

We’ve just announced signing of Midfielder Saidou Khan, was at Dagenham at back end of last season

Any daggers fans tell us what type of player he is and what we can expect?

Reckon this signing spells the end for Martin Smith too who I expect to leave before the start of the season

There’s plenty leaving believe me, Rowe has already come out and said this.

As I’ve mentioned on other threads, I’d be extremely surprised if the following players are still here come start of the season:

- Whittle (or Taylor after what we discussed earlier)
- Martin Smith
- Joe Rowley
- Tom Denton (off on loan)

That’s 4 players definitely departing. Worth remembering we still have Asante and Hollis (2 of our key men) out injured until atleast Christmas, so we can’t let too many leave as then we’ll end up short!

Fair enough, just from the outside it’s starting to feel like a completely chaotic way to run a club. You’ve just released Whelan after signing him for a fee in December. You’re trying to shift one of Whittle/Taylor who you signed at the same time. Rowley is going who you gave a new contract to in January. Smith is off who you signed in January.

Maybe we should put a bid in for Miller? :D

A few of our fans have got similar concerns, however Rowe has asked for us to stay calm, patient and trust him over the course of this summer. I think he’s well aware of that ‘chaotic’ perception you’ve mentioned and that’s why he’s addressing the fan base to ask for an element of trust, which he will definitely get from the majority.

He’s spoke about how when he came in, there was an instant need to completely freshen the squad up, and that’s why so many signings were made. He’s already said that during that process, because it’s having to be done instantly, not every signing is going to work out, and that’s why you’re seeing some of the players he’s already brought in move out (and continue to be moved out).

He’s said that next season he wants a completely settled squad barring the need to cover any injuries, with little to no turnover of players from the start till the end of the season which is absolutely essential if we’re to go on and have a successful season. Think we’ve still got a few manic weeks ahead, but I definitely trust him, he knows exactly what he wants and he’s ruthless enough to make those big decisions!

From the outside looking in, with no actual knowledge of what the finances are like at Chesterfield it looks like Rowe is being given the leeway to overhaul the squad (which was obviously massively needed after the last few seasons) but my concern would be the financial implications of the timeframe hes doing it in. The board seem to be gambling quite a lot, lots of loans etc

If you don't go up this season how sustainable is this in the long run?

That said the squad is looking far better than when he came in. Id be shocked if you aren't challenging for the title this season .

I agree with that, and I think they’ll be up there, but it does feel a little bit kid in a sweet shop as well. Mainly because Rowe did so well last season with the team he had - they were basically showing title winning form for months. So I’m not sure to what extent they need to be presumably spending decent money on players like Miller, King and Khan because they showed really good form in the last couple of months of the season when they’ve already got players in those positions who are, by all accounts, playing really well.

We showed Chesterfield-like form for the last ten games, let alone months, and our approach has been straight up ‘we need to keep this team together as much as is possible’. I’m surprised they’re not trying to do similar.

To be fair I think the recruitment last season when Rowe came in was more about getting in whatever the hell he could to try and avoid going down, as the situation looked very bad. So he probably brought in players that were not very good but we're at least better than what we had. It was panic stations a bit. Now it's a case of actually making the squad capable of winning this league, so a lot of what we had before and what Rowe brought in needs replacing. It's fine by me.

That would make sense if you’d finished 15th or something, though. You stormed through the league with title challenging form and made the play-offs!

Miraculous form yea, a huge overachievement given the ability of individuals. Got deservedly beat by County really, it wasn't a side capable of winning the league if it came down to it. Everything can always be better!

Wow he told the club he was signing two weeks back but obviously had more money chucked at him, shows although have a some money behind us we’re not totally ‘going for it’.

He’s a very raw but definitely a great talent, huge engine on him and will no doubt move up higher eventually. Big loss for us was huge part of our late season form, we have cover there but not as good so would expect someone else in the door but might be a bit late for that. It’s was his first full time football chance so might take a while to get fully moving.

Dont worry you can probably buy him back in 6 months when Rowe bins him off.

Who is backing Chesterfield? These signings don't seem sustainable without a backer.
