Being called a small club by fans of Cambridge United. When did they turn pro, 1970?
Looking forward to passing them, and their non-league standard shed of a stadium, on the way back up.
Non league standard shed, says the Wrexham fan with three sides of a ground and fading seats.

We’re here to give our opinion on an ex player and his move to the racecourse purely for serious coin. Don’t like it then block us.

edit: god knows why it’s quoted soc haha

I've just seen a lot of Cambridge fans online slagging us off (shit club, shouldn't even be in the English league, no fans etc etc) and the national league, from a club who were down here for a while not very long ago. And it has annoyed me, thats all. Have a go at Mullin, have a bit of grace- no-one made him take up our offer.

This is the problem you can come up against when you only give people one year contracts.

One of my best mates is a die hard Wrexham fan, I actually look out for your results and wish you well. I see you as a similar club to us that was shafted in a similar way to we were (ground stolen, almost deliberately run into the ground, relegated to the conference and got stuck there etc).

I also have no beef with Mullin signing for you from our perspective - we signed him on a one year deal and that was definitely the right thing for us last summer with covid as it was. You win some you lose some but we didn’t (still don’t) have the pockets of Hollywood to bail us out of long term contracts that don’t work.

But I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say that we were hoping for Mullin to play the peak of his career at the highest level possible and we thought that was at least League 1. As it is, he might spend all three years of his pay day in the conference and probably a mix of conference and League 2 which is a shame and possibly a waste. I get why he’s done it and put in the same position a lot of us would do the same. But that still doesn’t stop it being a shame.

And with regards to Cambridge, we’re not bitter about losing him. We knew the deal we had. We literally just wanted him to move on to somewhere bigger and better. Two leagues down to a club we consider a similar size to us isn’t bigger and better, only the pay check is.

So please don’t mistake the bitterness as jealousy on our part - it’s not, we did our “grieving” on him leaving months ago. That’s really not what this is about. We’re also very happy with the replacement we’ve signed.

We all knew that Mullin was only going to be with for one season and one season only right from the day he signed the contract as his wish was to go to a northern club closer to home. AFAIC, I never once entertained the idea that he would change his mind once promotion was assured and even if he did I just knew we wouldn't be able to meet his demands.

I'm certainly not bitter or anything, in fact I can see him easily getting 20 plus goals for his new club. What's pissing me off is that some deluded Wrexham fans are claiming he chose them over us when that's not the case. Some of them are even claiming that Wrexham was his first choice. Er so why did they leave it 'til four days ago then to talk to him?

I think you just need to not let what internet folks say ruin your life and just take it with a pinch of salt. I haven’t a clue if he chose us over you or if we beat championship/league one clubs to him and I can’t say I care enough either, I’m just happy that he’s here and I’m looking forward to seeing how he does. Never did I think it would happen because we don’t sign players like this and I just hope he gives us a season of entertainment for once

We've all got moron fans.

I wouldn't imagine we thought we'd be in with a chance back in June when he got the contract offer to stay, it looked like he'd be off to the Championship or a big L1 team.

Sam Smith from Reading. He was on loan at Cheltenham last season where he didn’t set the world alight (partly due to the fact they shared their goals around so well and scored tons from the long throw of Tozer). We had him on loan the season before and he played well for us in a god awful team. He’s a good finisher with good pace, we think he’ll fit in well with Ironside and Hoolahan. Not saying he’ll score 30+ league goals but 10-15 would seem achievable.

I understand your club has come into some money now and things are looking much better. But you arn't doing yourself any favours talking all " Big billy bollox" like that.
"Stinks of Billy Big Bollocks", huh? What's wrong with bigging your club up, if you feel like it? How does it affect you? You'd have to feel pretty shitty about your own club, if you can't cope with somebody else feeling good about theirs. :ds:

They’re absolutely rattled. “I’m not bitter like but why” ha ha ha. Superb signing by Wrexham and I wish them well but if history has taught us anything it is that there is not a cat in hells chance Wrexham are getting promoted. A peak Ronaldo Luis Nazario still wouldn’t drag them out of this division. Stockford to win it with sir Danny rowe’s mob up through the playoffs

It is no exaggeration to say the Wrexham/Cambridge BEEF is among the all time greats, possibly even edging ahead of Wealdstone/Barnet

Christ don’t even mention those two names together or else you’ll get them all riled up again.

FWIW Mullin will be on incredible money, clearly has no ambition to play higher but can you blame him really? Not quite sure why everyone is so salty over it as he was leaving anyway.

You are obviously referring to Cambridge fans here I presume.
Well seeing as you are here, I’m curious to know what you think will happen to Barton? Surely he can’t continue. Foolish appointment in the first place

Ambition is different for everyone I guess. If the project works here he will be part of a successful team and get paid well for it. What's he giving up, playing in League one? whoop di doo. He's played in League one before. And as we know there are players who move around the lower two leagues and top level of non league all the time. I dont think its as big a draw for players as fans think.

The advantage for him is that he gets to live back home rather than being in Cambridge, which isn't the easier place to travel to and from the North West, and get paid more than he was on down there too. Realistically there is only really us and Stockport who could have afforded him at our level, and Stockport had just bought Quigs and really don't need him. So it just fell into place for us.

The danger for him is that it doesn't work and he doesn't get a chance for his 'big move' again. But I suspect the Championship clubs who were rumoured to be interested weren't prepared to pay him that much given his previous record. Its a bigger risk for them than for us.

Surely you’ve got to suspend him or something though with this going on? You can’t just do nothing because that looks like you’re supporting him. Suspending him isn’t saying “we don’t believe you”, it’s just to keep him away with the investigation/case going on because your club doesn’t want the distraction, that’s the sensible thing to do. Like Wales rightly did with Giggs and as it turns out that’s become even worse for him now and I imagine the same is coming for Barton
