Its ok, we've taken out an insurance policy which pays out big if we don't go up.

In many ways you could say we can't afford to go up.

As I've said, surprised he's dropped down to the NL but mainly because a) I'm not sure he's a Parkinson kinda player having been brought up at Crewe and then played under Appleton and b) you can't pigeon hole him into being a particular type of midfielder so dropping two divisions might see him off the radar. He isn't really a goal scoring one, doesn't create too much, isn't ball winning either. Didn't play CM for us, more of a '10'. He is a very athletic player, though - works hard, can get up and down the pitch and being 6'8", he has a long stride.

All that said, maybe the two division drop will see him become a more specialist midfielder and he finds his way again. Never really saw what the fuss was about here given he was a medical away from the Championship, which was a shame because he's a really nice lad and it wasn't through lack of effort or application. Probably didn't help how good we were last season and the type of midfielders we've brought in this season (whether they turn out to be better in the long run is another question!).

He was always one we were going to get rid of, he's well down the pecking order and to be honest, even before we started bringing other midfielders in, you kinda knew he was at risk. Even this season he's been fit but not involved. The fee will come in handy because we've got business to do still.

Good goal at Bradford in the Pizza Cup last season, btw. Worth a watch.

Uni friend of mine who now works as a journalist in Lincolnshire has been told we've paided 65k with a 10k add on if we go up this season.
Looks a class signing on paper, but I said that about JJ Hooper and he was gash

He’s nearly as tall as our floodlights.
You really are making a rod for your backs.

A good manager with sound tactical knowledge would have gotten last seasons team into the playoffs.
All the best anyway, Your a club that should be in the FL, Please wreck Stockport.

Last season's team was pretty average particularly when our top scorer got injured and Yousef believed Rowe (mug) and cleared off and we couldn't sign anyone apart from free agents. Keatesball just insured draws

Did you purchase this from a furloughed broker in Chesterfield, if so policy is not enforceable unless Dover win the league.

We've re-signed Will Atkinson. He was a good player under Phil Brown before but it didn't work out for him at Mansfield.

Short-term deal till end of Jan. Wages prob small

not even loans, we would still be there if we didn't make loan signings.

I honestly don’t know what any fuss there is with the Jones signing. You’d think he was the League 1 Pogba the way some are carrying on. Was good when he arrived at Lincoln, but that was a while ago.

Wrexham’s recruitment seems a bit scattergun. Should still be enough quality to win it though.

Out of interest how does it appear scattergun? I've thought the opposite tbh.
It’s been reserved if anything. We need more players, we’ve lost more than we’ve signed.

You’ve done a lot less ‘picking off the best players in the league’ than I expected. Hyde the only one that fits into that category at all, but even he’s always been a decent forward down here rather than an outstanding one.

It’s been very one thing or the other. Two absolute statement signings in Hayden and Mullin, but then Brisley and Lennon who I’m not sure a team with your resources needs to be messing about with. Probably taken more risks on injury prone players than you needed to as well with Hyde, Jones and Lennon.

Essentially I think you’ve caught up with Stockport, Chesterfield and Notts on quality probably, but not really overtaken which might’ve been possible by spreading the resources around a bit more and maybe foregoing the two massive money lads for more depth recently proven at this level. You’ve also left it weirdly late, which could cost you if it takes time to gel.

There seems a clear thread, we signed out of contract players early. And the more statement signings have generally been left later due to more lengthy negotiations. Also because we are asking players to drop into non league.

We are definitely behind the other title contenders because Parkinson hasn't been in place as long as any of their managers and they all have a headstart in squad building. Possibly the extra quality we are bringing in might even that up a bit, but for me its why Chesterfield and Stockport are more likely league winners than us at the moment. Maybe Notts too, but I just don't think you've got enough up front. I think that will be the difference.

Its going to be a good league this year. Close.

Gonna be particularly fun as we don’t know which of the top sides is going to bomb yet, as someone will, and which random is going to compete.

It’s funny how differently people view each other from the outside as well. If you’d said we’ve probably not got enough in defence to win it then I don’t think any Notts fan could put up much of a convincing argument against. General feeling here is that it’s our front three that might be able to do it for us.

Jacob has probably put it better than I could, but yeah picking random reserve midfielders from League 1 sides, and Brisley and Lennon but then one very good season Mullin looks a bit all over the place. With the money that’s obviously available, I’m surprised there’s not been more picking off your rivals in this league, for example Tshimanga. We’ve signed some right trash from league clubs since we’ve been down here, though I’m not saying Jones is that.

Anyway, doesn’t matter cos we’ll have won the fucker by Christmas.

There’s not even been a speculative bid for one of the other three’s best players. Just to test the water and throw some weight around. Thought that would’ve been inevitable.

But yeah, if you’ve got the means to be bidding £120k for a 31 year-old defender who’s been a bit of a lower league journeyman… there’s basically only a handful of players in this league that you couldn’t get hold of with that kind of bid, and they’re probably more of a sure guarantee of quick success than persuading players to drop down, even if they’re currently doing well in the league (hi Ben Turner).

Who should we be signing then from rivals? Mullin is better than Tshimanga. Hayden better than most centre backs down here. Plus we already have some quality players and a top keeper when he’s fit.

Bearing in mind Stockport and Chesterfield are spending ridiculous money on wages for players too.

I think people are going to be surprised when they see Mullin play. A lot of people seem to have the idea hes just some guy who has struck lucky with one good season.

When we had (what turned out to be fake) unlimited cash in 09 we signed one of the best young keepers in the country (Schmeichel) who’d had god knows how many loans in League 2, kept the defence pretty much as it was, and signed 3 of the best midfielders in League 2. We went out on a bit of a limb with Lee Hughes who’d scored goals in the Prem, but the other 2 strikers who came in were proven in League 2 as well.

That to me seems a more strategic approach than the one Wrexham are adopting, but of course there’s nothing to say that yours won’t just be as successful, and you’ll be more prepared for the higher league if you do get promoted.

From the outside looking in it might not make much sense, but when you are familiar with the players we have retained from last year it does make more sense.

We shall see, I'm fairly happy with the fact we are being viewed as a bit of a joke by some people. Hopefully that means they don't take us seriously. Also we don't have to put up with fatty Adam Virgo wanking himself dry over our squad like he does with Chesterfield.
