Khan too, we would have offered him similar to that. Grand a week is about average at this level these days for a full time pro so 1500 is not huge wage anymore, specially with all the big hitters. Stop downplaying your spending it’s daft.

Similar with Miller - suspect we’d have been happy to pay him 1.5k a week, so he’ll be on more to have gone to Chesterfield.

Who should we be signing then from rivals? Mullin is better than Tshimanga. Hayden better than most centre backs down here. Plus we already have some quality players and a top keeper when he’s fit.

Bearing in mind Stockport and Chesterfield are spending ridiculous money on wages for players too.
Tell you what you should be walking this league cos your side is just so fucking good ain’t it??

You’re right you don’t need any of our players, just too good. I look on in envy honestly

Hahah here we go again, everyone guessing how much we’re paying players. They just want to play for the special one Jose Rowe lads, can’t turn down an opportunity like that

You wouldn't need an official statement explaining your obscene spending if you weren't paying players £8k per week.

Might not be the only reason. Perhaps Burchnall knew Joel Taylor was available, preferred him to Miller and could get him for less money per week

Danny Rowe is on a 1k per week basic with a 6k goal bonus (4k if its a penalty).

Possible, to be fair. Think that one’s just worked out nicely for everyone. Miller is a better footballer, but we needed his skill-set a lot less than Taylor’s with the attacking midfielders we have, and probably the opposite is true with Ches.

Exactly - thats how I read that one - rather than a 'We'll offer you £200 per week more than Notts' situation.

Taylor was a good player but for us he suffered from COVID and struggled to get back into the side. Its clear from pre-season that Miller will be first choice for us with Whittle dropping to second fiddle (a more defensive LWB who will probably play in the more difficult games).

Are Chesterfield like Grimsby? only paying £200 a week?

Let's face it. None of us know what anyone is paying.

I think the thing about him needing team mates to provide him with great service bit is a myth. From what I've seen of him so far, he's more than capable of crafting his own chances out of nothing. In fact, that's exactly how he won our penalty on Saturday.

Not saying that individual brilliance providing great service would go amiss though, and having players like Hyde, Davies and McAlinden up there with him should help him score at least 20.
We'll see, I guess. I've probably seen five or six times against us and he's never really struck me as someone who makes his own chances. I'm not knocking him down here either, just pointing out that he had some very good service last season.

I honestly don’t know what any fuss there is with the Jones signing. You’d think he was the League 1 Pogba the way some are carrying on. Was good when he arrived at Lincoln, but that was a while ago.

Wrexham’s recruitment seems a bit scattergun. Should still be enough quality to win it though.
Hmm, the order we are doing it in may make it appear more random, but we have always needed the same players.

Whole defence - (Brisley, Lennon, Hayden....Now add Tozer bid due to Brisley injury).

Midfield always needed two starters to compliment/compete with Davies and Young (J.Jones + ANother tbc, Davey Jones is an added luxury hence the coaching role).

Strikers, we have needed a goalscorer since Louis Moult.

Seeing the strength of players that some of the not so fancied teams in the division are signing I can see it being a very interesting season. Due to the pandemic maybe? Seeing Alty sign Dean Furman who is no mug and probably pipped to a contract at Wrexham by Dave Jones is abit of a coup for them. Joe Bunney seemed abit erratic when playing for Grimsby and didn't look like he was coming or going but I imagine he will be OK at this level.

Looking forward to kicking off the season on Saturday against Weymouth.

The only big club at this level that seem to be playing with a fairly standard budget is Notts, no massive signings, wages or fees looking from the outside but the rest absolutely going for it.

I'll take that as a troll.

And yet we’re top. Make of that what you will.

Stockport County.
This myth about Notts County not spending. They nabbed two of Torquay's best players, signed a midfielder who'd played lots of games in League One himself last season and have paid fees to Chesterfield for two of their players.

That's adding to a squad which most people thought was the best at the start of last season.

We've had a big signing in Quigley, nabbed one of Torquay's best players and signed a defender with a decent amount of games in League One last season. Not much different. In fact, probably less.

We have a wage cap of £700pw mate. The rest is made up in bonuses.

Miller also apparently has the same agent as Neal Ardley (who signed him) which might have made things a bit... awkward

We can attract players for a pittance because they really want to be part of Ian Burchnall’s training sessions.

Stocky is right though, it’s just that strikers/forwards catch the eye more and we’ve managed to develop our ‘marquee strike force’ from three young players signed as relative unknowns, so haven’t had to splash out on a Mullin/Quigley/Tshimanga. We’ve not managed the same elsewhere so our big signings have just been in less glamorous positions - Cameron and Palmer, in particular, won’t be coming cheap. I don’t think we have an obvious massive earner like the rest, but our average wage won’t be far off.

He might be subject to a lot of international call-ups though. Also, does he play on Jewish holidays? If not, the High Holy Days might be a bit of a problem for Alty!

No matter who they sign, their manager is the biggest asset at that club. Almost worked a complete miracle at Nantwich then two promotions with Altrincham. I could see him being our next manager when Artell leaves given he did a lot of coaching here and knows the club. But for now, I hope he keeps rising his stock at Altrincham. They'll be fine this season, even if the likes of Pringle and Ajay are a little washed up.
Very insightful comments these. Are you PP's m8? We won at Torquay without either of them but I'm quite surprised we have signed Furman and Bunney, we remain part time and tin pot compared with the brotherhood :surr:

Furman going to Alty is an unbelievable signing for them.

Are they Going For It?
Seems so but suspect the manager is doing some clever deals here.
And I dont know how Furman would get in the side at present ?
Interesting times at little Alty:bravo:
