Ah right, I thought it has has confirmed at 460k for some reason but I can't actually see it anywhere now, so it's almost definitely not that much then I agree.

I reckon if Dembele goes it's gonna be a late one, maybe even as late as deadline day.
Confirmed by Stockwood as 160k. Not fantastic but better than nothing. Dembele has 6 days before we riot.

At the end of the day, it's 160k for a kid that's never got close to kicking a ball for us in a match and it's more than we should have got through EPPP. Happy that the club were transparent on that though, as we know the only reason we had transfer fee transparency before was because we were a plc.

Have said all along too that I think Dembele will go on deadline day and I'm sticking to that.

Aye but it all has to go to paying Fentys loans quicker.

Happy that it means get ridding of him sooner, so potentially more money for the club in future seasons if paid back quicker, but also means those fees we have received aren't being reinvested in the squad now, even after he is gone he is still dragging us down.

If the Dembele deal goes through at the cost of around £5-6 million as mentioned then that will pay a huge huge chunk from paying Fenty off? I don't mind the approach we are taking as a club in not trying to go nuts or bust to get promoted. I'm a slight bit jealous of Wrexham yes of course I am, however it doesn't always guarantee success first time round and the 3-year contracts can be a sticky situation if things don't go right.

I'm happy for us to be competing and floating round the top of the pack and fully expect us to be in the play-offs at the closing end of the season.

Agreed I don't care if we don't get promoted this season, obviously I want us too, but not at the expense of throwing money around and stupid long contracts that could either leave you with rubbish players on the books or leave you with players not good enough if you get promoted.

But try telling that to our impatient fans who complain because we haven't paid 6 figure fees for a one season wonder or paying 9k a week in wages, and nothing other than winning the league by 20 points is good enough.

Wouldn't be a problem 20 years ago but in today's social media world it is, you only have to listen to the some of the stupid questions put to Jason last night.

Okay so the official Grimsby line is that we have seen and accessed all of your obscenely expensive squads and we aren't even bothered about promotion this season to be honest.

Why get promoted just to fight relegation against Mansfield, Vale and Stevenage when you can finish top 10 playing Notts, Torquay and Kings Lynn?

Exactly. Multiple matches on BT Sport, no Devon Lad or Bradford fans, more exciting playoff structure, no competitive matches against Wolves U23s...it really makes sense to just knuckle down for a few seasons down here and wait for all these lot to go bust or get promoted. We'll grind everyone down like a Hursty 1-0 away win.

I'm as bothered as everyone. But seeing what we are up against our chances are slimmer. Do you think Leicester go into every season thinking.. If we don't win the league this year it's all a failure. I'm saying so long as we are competitive and there or thereabouts.

I'm only taking the piss, of course I'd love us to go up. I'm of exactly the same opinion as you, in that I don't see the point in trying to compete financially with the other bigger clubs in this division but that I expect us to get a playoff spot. We're in the same boat we always were when we were down here before in that we have a playoff placed budget but never the top budget, just this time we've got a lot more positivity around the place so let's enjoy the club moving forward off the pitch for now. It's baffling that we have so many fans that expect us to be winning this division this season. Thankfully, there isn't a single one on here which is nice.

Aldershot (and Boreham Wood, apparently )

That’s all I’ve wanted for the past 5 seasons, but it’s a receding target at the Rec. Debt-free survival is once again the aspiration.
We are at Boreham Wood this week, and it would be a complete surprise if we even worked their keeper, let alone pinched a point..
2-0 Wood.

I really don’t like saying this because he strikes me as a really nice lad but he was absolutely fucking hopeless for us last season. I’d go so far to say he has a great case to be the worst we had last season and he’s in some pretty extraordinary company.

Was nothing outstanding at Alfreton last season. Seemed to struggle to last 90 mins too. Not sure he is NL standard although he may be more suited to FT football

Cheers. Apparently his performances in training and fitness has impressed PB, hence a contract until January. he may feature on Saturday.

Jamie Bremner signs for Melksham and Roberto Di Segni for Wantage in dual reg moves. Both on the fringes of the first team squad so makes sense for them to get involvement elsewhere. We had Matt Green train with us for a few weeks but opted not to sign him, he's gone to Northern Ireland with Linfield.

You've dodged a bullet with Matt Green there, he's absolutely terrible nowadays.

Matt Green potentially in with a shot of European football next season (they're already out this season) with Linfield @Grimsby fans

He deserves it, probably the best striker to play for us since Mendonca

We had two entirely ineffective former Notts players make it to the group stage of the Europa Vanarama League last night. Filip Valencic at HJK Helsinki and Liam Walker at Lincoln Red Imps. I reckon we could do it if we won the FA Cup and qualified.

We’ve signed Ryley Scott after he impressed in pre-season, recently playing in Portugal after being released by Ipswich. Only 20 so not one for right now but with our midfield injuries could easily get a game sooner.

Yeah, you do get some big clubs in these qualifiers...we'd obviously get trounced by the likes of Basel, Shaktar, Malmo, etc but it's not against the realms of possibility that you might get lucky and get a run against teams like TNS who I think a fair few at this level and L2 could give a game and would probably get done by most L1 teams.

TNS are full of our ex players who weren't good enough for this level. Half the teams in this league would batter them.
