I also don't have any issue with 4G pitches - I've played on a fair few myself and you can zip the ball around quite nice.
The problem I have is that the game plays quite differently on both surfaces and if you're not at least training on one then the side with the 4G has an advantage. You also need different footwear and stuff, plus I'm not sure they're officially sanctioned/quality verified at higher levels, in this country at least.
They aren't allowed in the PL or FL but they are allowed by FIFA for use at all levels. Many international teams use them and they are very common in top flights in Scandinavia, Russia etc.
Although some EPL and Champ clubs (and Boreham Wood whose pitch is used by Arsenal U23s and ladies) have hybrid pitches where artificial fibres are implanted in the soil and then grass seed is put in to grow around them. This is very expensive but leads to a higher quality surface than 100% real or 100% artificial grass.
I don’t buy the advantage argument, they play and train on 4G half the time, but most away games are one grass so they have a disadvantage no? I am neither for or against 4G, but I do believe everyone should play on the same.
There's so much variation between pitches already though even where 100% grass is used. Drainage is a massive factor and there are slopes on some pitches too.
There is also huge variation within 3G. Sutton's pitch is awful with an extremely high bounce and plays like a hard tennis court at times. Bromley's is a lot better.
