Beat Cambridge 1-0 with a cracking free-kick from Robbie Hall. Both teams played pretty but not particularly incisive football. Our team was mostly the back up players (or Sam Long playing as a central defender) but no kids as we have taken the decision to have separate bubbles for the 1st team and U18/21 players.

The good thing yesterday was Cam Brannagan made his 1st start since getting over his rare (only 2 infections in the country on average annually) eye infection which could have meant he lost the sight in his right eye. Credit to the staff at the Oxford Eye Hospital for saving his eyesight.

Well that wasn't fair. Peterborough put out a strong team and put five past us. We were going for a hat-trick before these jokers broke the rules. I demand a recount.... I mean rematch.

It’s a little like Coleman bemoaning us last night putting out a strong side without many kids either playing or on the bench. We only have 12 fit players in total at the moment, the rest are either injured or self isolating after a covid outbreak. Also when we rolled Accy over with them having a very weakened side starting, our youth team had already played a game in the daytime versus Huddersfield.

Certainly one of his bizarre comments, especially as we still fielded a side younger than Accy's!

Can we join the thread? The rest of the league 2 wasters have bombed out of the tinpot scab trophy

You may.

Who's left in it? Posh, Lincoln, Tranmere, Oxford, Sunderland, MK and a couple of others?

EDIT - Hull and AFCW as well. A fairly strong line-up.

Yeah, don't think we'll be on the thread for long in all fairness!

Away at Hull for us in the Pizza Cup. Unlike us to draw a tough game...

Yeah I think it was in the Athletic that over the last decade we've had the most difficult cup games, which isn't surprising - we've been going on about it for years!

So us, Oxford, Sunderland and Tranmere through to the semi's. We beat Hull on penalties after 1-1 draw. Any idea when the draw is?

Disappointing result, but if you don't take your chances, and miss an open goal with 2 minutes to go, you can't complain when you lose. Was surprised by Jorge Grant, presumably that was an off day as both Docherty and Crowley were better than him by a long way.

Given the state of the pitch I thought it was an OK game. Both teams faded after scoring, and I thought we finished the stronger actually. Not sure that was quite what we needed before a Friday game though.

Especially as we will probably be kicked from pillar to post, the way Evans likes his sides to play.

Thought we did well all things considered and surprised that we looked much fitter and stronger than our opponents despite a lack of bodies.

Concerned how much the pitch has taken out of us considering we play again in 72 hours especially when you factor in travel down there.

Nice to have the £50K, will go towards our January outlay.

Looking at the line-up, he probably wasn't playing in his normal and playing 60 yards further back. We didn't play with an out and out striker either.

A comfortable win. Sam Winnall's first goals for us which was good. More prize money which is good.

Worth mentioning that our chairman prior to the start of the season put forward a proposal to waive cup-tied players for the EFL Trophy. I thought it was a good idea but no other club supported it!

The Semi final draw is Friday about 7.45pm on Sky (assume Sky Sports News).

2020 Final is on Saturday 13th March with the 2021 Final on the Sunday. Both kicking off at 3pm.

Sunderland v Lincoln

Away draw is standard for us. Could be an Appleton love in should both teams progress.

None of those are close for an away game but I think I'd have preferred us away for two reasons, 1) we're better away from home this season and 2) given how sodden everywhere around here is at the minute (with more snow and rain next week) we could do without the additional home game.

Sunderland tomorrow.

We'll probably make four or five changes - Jackson, Edun, Eyoma, Scully and Anderson are all in with a chance because we have a couple of injuries and three(?) cup-tied.

Hopper hasn't played in this competition this season I don't think which, given that he's our only striker, it'll be interesting to see whether we gets the nod given it's a semi-final.

Splendid performance from Tranmere Rovers to reach the final.

We made too many changes, and it showed. Our poorest performance for a long time, and those who were given their chance to impress didn't take it. Despite the club refusing to use it as an excuse, I think the Wigan game finishing less than 48 hours before this one was a factor.

Well done Tranmere, you beat what was in front of you, but don't kid yourselves that was the real Oxford United. Now back to the real job in hand of getting promoted.

It wasn't our first team either. Was going to say it wasn't the real Tranmere Rovers but i have been supporting them since 1977 and still have no idea what the real one actually is. We are either superb or awful, often simultaneously. Football at this level is always interesting. Good luck for the rest of the season.
