That's my concern. We've been here before.

Remember when we played well and knocked Blackburn out of this cup, then 3 days later we went to Bradford and got humped 4-0.

If we turn up and beat Cambridge then fair enough we can maybe say we've turned it round after the Swindon match
I don't think we played that well against Blackburn, we huffed and puffed, Mark Beck was our best player that day which says it all and then just sort of shithoused our way to win on penalties (I think?). Last season an excellent performance against Port Vale set us up for the first half of the season where we did well.

Great performance, battled hard against a good Fleetwood team, I fully expect them to be up in the playoffs again.

Wasn't much in it for an hour but a couple Fleetwood changes swung it in their favour as we went one up front. Fantastic corner and header put us ahead in extra time and shortly after they went down to 10 men and it was comfortable from then on.

Much better than expected, but have to take it into the league.

571 away fans in a crowd of 1700.

Our team has shown tonight that it can perform when it wants to and Curle must not make the mistake again of starting Hope upfront on his own as we have better attacking options that showed tonight.

The most pleasing yet shocking thing from tonight though is that we gave no gifted goals to our opponents!

Would've been nice to go through on penalties, but sounded like a really good performance and twice equalising in the last minute shows good character.

Hopefully enough to put the absolute clusterfuck of a team selection and performance at Coventry behind us.

Alan Smith to start then?

Tucked his penalty away with aplomb at least! Ridiculously high quality shoot out actually - make the pitch so wet that you can't shoot along the ground and it turns out that everyone just twats it into the top corner.

Our game abandoned due to heavy rain. Derby were 1-0 up after 5 mins

How embarassing getting a match abondoned in August!

Get a 21st century drain or piss off back to the conference where ya belong.

Only 5 teams from League 2 making it through tonight. A max of 8 if all 3 teams tomorrow win. Slim pickings already.

We played alright, a lot better than the previous game against Orient. We scored 3 goals against a championship team, we must have played well to some degree.

We hardly ever have matches postponed/abandoned. I live down South, so I don't know how bad it was but it must have been terrible conditions for it to be called off. Our pitch is probably one of the best in the division.

Took it to extra time having looked second best but not out of it first half. Probably had more clear chances second even though MK still crisper. Finally conceded second period of extra time and still had a couple of chances to level. Fair result but could well have taken it to pens. Collins good for us, Doidge too before being replaced. KMB really needs to do more IMO.

The plumb draw next round seems to be to get West Ham away. You are guaranteed a home game plus a share of gate receipts as if it was played at the Olympic stadium.

We will probably draw a tough game to a team 100s miles away.

I was going to say it felt like a Reserve match from pub to game to pub but actually Northern Floodlit League circa 1968/69 better captures the atmosphere in the dug out and from our end of the Mem'.

Only disappointments were that birthday boy, Harry Darling, failed to put away his chance and I had to drink with a Gas season ticket holder who also has a City season ticket, rather than enjoying the company of Aber gas . Glad I don't have to work for a living anymore.

Darling will be better for the experience (but not better enough to start in L2 this side of his next birthday). I'm sure his mum enjoyed her introduction to a U's awayday experience as well. Lewis looked particularly lost but made the effort. The rest was much as we might expect from a thrown together side of L2 fringe players and senior pros nursing the process along. The absence of Roberts from the mix speaks volumes.

Vanni and Tom_CUFC will be disappointed with the level of abuse we managed to muster for the ginger twat as he persisted in warming up in front of the away gathering. I can't even say we did our best. It was a token effort, in keeping with the general feel of the evening.

If you were on the levels you should have visited Wells as i was in my local earlier and would have bought you a pint, that goes for any of you on here if you're in my local area. :)
I never got near the culture and civilization that Wells has to offer, only fringed around the edge of Glastonbury a couple of times. I enjoyed the hospitality of Street as my nearest and cheapest base for for exploring the mires and pools of Avalon. I also discovered this morning that Leiston has a twin in the west, when I passed through Bridgwater twice and discovered Hinkley Point in my search for migrating Godwits and the like.

Yeah decent effort tonight, just lacking that cutting edge. Small margins though, if only Sham could shoot. As for KMB, yes people say he should be starting but if he wants to get in the team he needs to do more when he comes on.

Well, our reserves got spanked 5-1 at Birmingham.

I don't think Kewell has any idea about finances at lower league clubs. You don't bank on the money from a cup run but it really helps when you get one. Brum (no disrespect) are not the best championship side. A bit of luck, give it a go and you may get a result to set yourself up against a premier league side. Kewell sends out a side with the back up players in key positions and for some reason Josh Payne (a creative midfielder) in the middle of a back three! Roughly the same thing he did against Brighton in a pre-season friendly with a very similar result. To keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result is one of the signs of impending unemployment (if we can afford to sack him).

Oh well.

I really, really rated the guy when he was at Barnet for about 10 games until his lack of effort off the ball became to frustrating and cost us more goals than he created.
Yep, feels like you're sacrificing someone putting in a shift on the off-chance he scores a worldie. He did have one great dipping effort but that was about it.

I thought we would lose , so the many changes Robins made put up a decent effort against a good Blackburn side.
Concentrate on the league now.

Just got home from the pub
We've had some great nights in this competition and tonight was up there with the best.
Its been a long time since I've seen such a dramatic finish to one of our matches.
Burnley and Preston done - Blackburn next please...

What has August got to do with it? It's the UK not Spain!

Besides why you even in this thread? You haven't got time to read non Carlisle posts, you have a life to live.

Thought we played pretty well really but that Ipswich just had that little bit extra quality through McGoldrick to win it. Thought 1-0 was probably fairer than the eventual 2-0 but what does that matter really?! We moved the ball quite nicely especially early second half (thought we were slightly slow with it in the first half) but whereas those moves came off on Saturday they didn't really tonight.

If Lee (Elliot that is!) taps in that rebound just before half time then we might have gone on to do something but not to be I guess. Still looked a decent footballing side though which is good to see.

Bit disappointed the crowd was so low though - would have thought after the weekend and a relatively attractive cup tie it might have been a few more than 4600 odd.
I don't think the league cup attracts high attendances so 4600 was about what I expected. The performance was always going to be an anticlimax after last Saturday. Thought we might have used our squad a bit more for this game even if we did make a few changes. No disgrace in matching a championship side in all but the number of goals scored. An encouraging performance by the sounds of it and more match fitness to boot. Roll on Saturday.

Norwich fans were pretty complimentary about us last night. Sounds like we gave it a pretty good go against a strong side so happy enough with our performance.

Rain was torrential last night and many parts of the town ended up flooded. The ball was already being held up in large parts of the pitch and challenges were becoming more and more dangerous, no chance it could have gone ahead. Would say it was a decent game but it kinda wasn't and seeing Summerfield and Berrett pair up in the middle was absolutely painful, can't blame the rain on how woeful they were. Annoying too as it means Zak Mills will be suspended for Saturday now I believe although Davies was playing well.

Really depends who you are though. If you're someone like Accrington, then even getting 100% of the gate reciepts at the Crown Ground probably won't match what your share might have been had you gotten someone like Everton away, and some of those clubs have been known to donate their share of the reciepts anyway as a goodwill gesture if they draw a lower league club.

For us, even though we've a bigger stadium and getting 100% of the gate reciepts should we fill it to capacity might do very nicely, I still think away to Newcastle would be a bigger earner.

Not sure I follow. West ham can't play at home so they are giving the club they play money as if it had taken place at west hams ground and then you get a decent home draw on top. It's not 100% of home gate receipts as I understand it.

If you pass through on the way to Steart, it's kind of the only way back over the River (Parrett)...................Bridgwater -.gateway to ........well not very much really.

Lost to a 95th Minute screamer at Barnsley, gutted. To be fair it could have been a cricket score, mental game.

Big shoutout to Vadaine Oliver aswell, he's been superb in these first 2 games.

Are we allowed claims on "the new Rakish Bingham" yet?

I like Street, mainly because my favourite cider farm is there.
