It was terrible, the fact Palmer got man of the match despite looking poor summed it up

No idea what Rochdale have to do with anything though

Aren't you a Rochdale fan?

The 'Wrexham are rubbish' thing is just boring. Had to put up with a whole season of that last year. It wasn't a particularly good game but why not criticise Wigan? They were just as bad and they are meant to be a League one side. At least we threatened the goal.

It was largely a second string putting in a professional performance after we shipped 5 goals at the weekend. If you aren't interested in us don't watch our games.

you’ve got a fair point and sky will always have their latest pet to wank over.

A couple of years from now when you’re 9th in league 2 they’ll go fantasise over another club, it’s quite sad on sky’s part - hardly wrexhams fault

Beat Sunderland on pens after a 1-1 draw, expected to get battered even vs a changed team but they brought there 1st team players on and we hung on well. Especially considering we had 5 teenagers on the pitch, some bright futures amongst them youngsters. Our 5 pens were class aswell.

Just a shame Sunderland fans had ro brick 2 coaches afterwards, poor form that, feeling the need to brick coaches after losing a carabao cup game vs a league two team.

Yeah I couldn't give a shit about the League Cup really. No shame in losing away at Mansfield in it really, it's an absolutely crap draw. I have no concerns about the defence really, we switched out our entire midfield and gave Cartwright his first match in a long time in net so no red flags there. What I am concerned about though is something I mentioned a few times in pre-season and that's that Rose isn't a lone striker. Doesn't matter if he's up top in a three or with three behind him, he needs to have another striker there with him for me and I can't see us scoring many with him as the sole focal point.
You’re in for a long season if Hurst keeps Rose as the lone man up top. Wingers were never close enough to him and he didn’t win anything anyway.

I wish I was a Rochdale fan, they're at least a professional team

Wrexham don't play good football, especially considering they money spent. You won like every game last year I don't expect Wrexham fans to care, I can still call the football terrible though.

Didn't really expect you to care this much

The refund of tickets is a great gesture but I’m struggling to see the significance of the victory to that extent?

To be fair we’ve done Sunderland over at the Stadium of Light two years on the trot in the FA Cup!

Happy enough with that performance. Not pretty at all but limited them to very little. After the shambolic defending at the weekend back to basics was needed.

Expected a thrashing when I seen our line up but Wigan were poor uptop. Wasn't fussed about winning tonight, not a priority competition but we will take the win, Everton away next please just so I can go to Goodison before it closes

Comfortably beaten, another red card and played around 40 mins with ten men.
Grimsby is looking a very tough game on Saturday, we rarely do well against them . Bang the away win on your Accas.
I don't think we can get a L2 starting eleven that's competitive out of that squad as it stands. Too lightweight with a defence that looks shot to pieces two games into the season.
Lincoln looked at least one division above us tonight.

The bad news is we lost another penalty shootout.

The good news is we made seven changes and outplayed Sheffield Wednesday for large periods by all accounts.

19-year-old Cody Johnson recalled from Rochdale had Barry Bannan in his back pocket and 20 year old Ethan Pye was MOTM.

There was talk of us looking for a right sided attacker but I think DC has abandoned the wingers idea already tbh. I think 3412 with Powell behind a front two is the way to go.

I’m all aboard the bring in a striker who can put away our chances train rather than another dribbler/creator.

So is everyone in this division.

True. It is competitive though, unlike the National League which must be beyond bad these days for yourselves & Notts to have got so many points. I mean seriously.

Paul Hurst incredibly complimentary about Mansfield tonight, very unusual for a L2 manager.

Williams sacked the cups off last season playing reserve teams and did it again, but feels more of a risk this time after what happened opening day as we could've done with a bit of confidence from competing in what is a sort-of derby game. As it was I thought we started well and were the better team up until conceding another soft goal from a corner, after which we lost all confidence. Never looked much of a threat without McGoldrick and Langstaff, and we all know we're not great defensively so no huge surprise we then went on to lose to a Lincoln side who were much closer to full strength than we were.

We've got a bit of an issue in that Williams already seemed to want to kill Baldwin, probably the one defender we have who everyone agrees is definitely up to this level, for not coming back to pre-season in proper shape. He now really, really wants to kill for a fairly stupid red card tonight.

Thank the fucks we can hide behind the fact that Williams plays such weakened teams in the cups because that was proper abysmal. From the first 2 games it’s looking like we should have left about 5 players in non league (including the captain ffs) embarrassing to see a Notts team lose to Lincoln like that.

Early days etc etc, I hope we have about 3 defenders lined up to sign before the end of August.

How many changes have you made tonight from your strongest 11? Of course made easier by playing ten men (however already 2-0 up at this point) but thats the easiest, most comfortable, competitive game i've seen us play for some time. Even able to bring on some yougsters towards the end.

Nine from the opening day I think. Didn't even bother putting McGoldrick and Palmer, arguably two of our three best players, on the bench even though we didn't name the full quota of subs, Williams really hates the cups. Was poor either way.

My Rochdale alarm bell has just gone off, they were very capable of looking like a decent team at times too.

As I’ve said before, I’m sure you guys will sort it out though.

After tonight’s game at Mansfield, I am not sure if Grimsby are really poor and the only way they are going to score this season is from set pieces or Mansfield were really good and are not going to lose a game this season.

Weirdly, given that we've never won at Oakwell in 29 visits, we were the better team for a lot of the game against Barnsley's reserves and it took the inevitable 98th minute equaliser to ensure our curse there continues. We did at least win the shootout, to inevitably draw Mansfield away in round 2 instead of anybody remotely interesting.

Powell as a number 10 is always the best position. He'll thrive with the creativity behind him and the likes of Madden and Wootton(when he returns) in front of him.

Seems a strange gesture, I'd have be more inclined to do this sort of thing after a heavy loss like at this stage last year when we got be at Grimsby.

It's just a nice thing to do after 2 years of misery, I think.

I think it's better - says thank you for the support after a win. I always think refunds after a heavy defeat are because the clubs kinda feel they have to, this is just a nice gesture.

You wouldn’t want rose by himself up top by himself , you’d be buggered, though he’d spend more time on the floor.

You’re in for a long season if Hurst keeps Rose as the lone man up top. Wingers were never close enough to him and he didn’t win anything anyway.
Yep hopefully he'll start playing him in a two of some kind. He's come out and said he got the tactics wrong and that those players won't play in that combo again, but it's unclear if he's talking about the attack or midfield or both.

I know there aren't any Harrogate fans here but they beat us 1 - 0 in the least surprising result of the night.
Hellogregory must be in fucking meltdown.

Our second string lost 2-1 at Exeter. They had a pretty strong side out so not disheartened at all.

According to those Crawley fans there (long way on a Tuesday) the game really changed wen our only first choice defender, Ransom, was subbed off. From then on it was a case of how many they could score and Ashby-Hammond (2nd string keeper) pulled off some great saves.

I was saying we needed back up at left midfield/wing back. Lalos, a right footed striker, played there last night...he scored though. As an ex Plymouth youngster I bet that pleased him.

Drew 1-1 at Peterborough and seemingly played very well. Posh made 2 changes from their win on Saturday and we played pretty much our strongest side.

Inevitably we lost the penalty shoot out. I don't know the actual statistic, but seemingly we've had 25 competition penalty shoot outs in history and won 3/4/5 of them. (I'll have to come back and confirm for accuracy)

Looking forward to Crewe on Saturday to see Flynnball in action. It sounds way more productive than the drivel served up by Linsdey and Morris last season.
