True. It is competitive though, unlike the National League which must be beyond bad these days for yourselves & Notts to have got so many points. I mean seriously.

From last season maybe you could expand on what it’s like to get promoted be out of your depth and get dicked every weekend?

Enjoyable game at the Lane last night. Our first ever League Cup win. Not sure Cambridge can have too many complaints, totally gift wrapped their goals with defending that would be shocking in an U7 match. Overall we had the better chances and their keeper busier. They made a lot of changes but were still a reasonable outfit.

Yep hopefully he'll start playing him in a two of some kind. He's come out and said he got the tactics wrong and that those players won't play in that combo again, but it's unclear if he's talking about the attack or midfield or both.

I had a bit of a soft spot for danny tbh, and he’s pretty alright in the air for someone not so tall, but yeah that would be a tough gig if he’s on his own against 2 average div 2 monsters in defence. Still at his best off someone taller and on flick ons.

He was one of those who would go and score a ridiculous goal then miss 5 sitters.

Reasonably entertaining game with flashbacks to 10 years ago and away nights in the Conference - setting, atmosphere, style of play and opposition crowd swapping ends at half time.

You're right, our 2 goals were gift wrapped and our back up CBs and DM struggled with the long throws and mortar bombs into the box - we knew what was coming and you should get enough goals for an interesting season.

One highlight of the evening was the Robin Hood - decent beer and excellent food. In fact the social media grapevine must have kicked in because Paul Barry (majority shareholder), the Chief Exec and the Chairman rolled up in search of sustenance. There was no food on offer in the boardroom at Gander Green Lane.

I remember being happy when harrogate were promoted, but after getting 1 point from 6 games against them maybe 1 to retract

Beat Sunderland on pens after a 1-1 draw, expected to get battered even vs a changed team but they brought there 1st team players on and we hung on well. Especially considering we had 5 teenagers on the pitch, some bright futures amongst them youngsters. Our 5 pens were class aswell.

Just a shame Sunderland fans had ro brick 2 coaches afterwards, poor form that, feeling the need to brick coaches after losing a carabao cup game vs a league two team.
Can tell it's the school holidays and the little scrotes don't have primary school today.

Delighted to get through. Sounds like we rode our luck a bit, but to be expected given we were understrength ourselves in leaving out Thomas, Long and Demetriou. As you said, started the game with 6 players under the age of 20. Hoping for a money spinning draw, help boost the coffers and they can use the extra funds to bring in a couple of extra bodies in areas where they are light.

Seems a strange gesture, I'd have be more inclined to do this sort of thing after a heavy loss like at this stage last year when we got be at Grimsby.
Glad it's not just me that appreciates the sentiment, but feels it's odd timing. I don't believe in refunds, never have. Pay your money, you accept you could see them win 7-0 or lose 7-0. You don't pay double for a fantastic performance, you don't expect refunds for a poor one. I know this is refunding fans for a win, which isn't all that much if we're being honest, what 200 fans at £10 a ticket, a couple of grand. Far rather they kept that money in the club and used it to help fund more players.

Yeah he has a lot of attributes to thrive in a Hurst team, but I'm a bit surprised Hurst thinks him, Eisa and Vernam together in a three up top is gonna work against L2 defences. The problem is that we don't seem to have brought in anyone that looks like they'll partner him. Hurst seems to want to be able to play wide forwards, a three in the middle and Rose all in the same team. He's gonna have to let something go there, either go two in the middle of the park and use someone like Clifton that can switch between central and wide roles at the expense of Vernam or Eisa or just go 4-4-fucking-2. I'm hoping we're in for a striker still personally but I've heard rumours the budget is all but been spent.

Danny Rose was playing his party trick last night of stopping on the goal line after the keeper collects the ball and trying to do a ‘Hartlepool’.
However the crowd was wise to him and started shouting to Pym ‘he’s behind you’.
At this Danny just laughed and ran up field.

He even tried that in pre season against Cleethorpes Town.

Drew 1-1 at Peterborough and seemingly played very well. Posh made 2 changes from their win on Saturday and we played pretty much our strongest side.

Inevitably we lost the penalty shoot out. I don't know the actual statistic, but seemingly we've had 25 competition penalty shoot outs in history and won 3/4/5 of them. (I'll have to come back and confirm for accuracy)

Looking forward to Crewe on Saturday to see Flynnball in action. It sounds way more productive than the drivel served up by Linsdey and Morris last season.

Needless to say I was talking absolute shite.

25 shootouts, 11 wins and 14 defeats.

1 out of 4 in playoff matches
0 out of 1 in FA Cup
0 out of 6 in the league Cup
10 out of 14 in minor Cup competitions.

I guess that makes us flat track bullies!

One of my many bug bears are fans that 'demand' refunds if a team has been heavily beaten or lost to a non-league side in the cup. I'm in total agreement with you. It would be like someone buying a lottery ticket and demanding a refund because they got no return. The gamble in going to watch a football match (and more so at this level) is you have absolutely no idea how it's going to go.

Stockport County.
We played well at Wednesday some great performances from some young players but we've fucked it at the end again sadly.

Not our manager but we played without several key players on Saturday. Notts lost their best player in the summer and keep getting players sent off.

Besides. Probably too soon to write off our seasons after one game tbh.

Obviously, should they progress, Leeds at home or away is the stand out preference.

Wouldn’t mind a trip to Sheff Wed/Everton.

Chelsea or Spurs would be great for the finances obviously, either home or away. From a personal point of view then an away game at Peterborough, Luton or Stevenage wouldn't be too bad as I could actually make it. We got quite fortunate with some decent draws last season though, so Exeter/Plymouth away is absolutely screaming as the worst draw in the pot.

Even so, i don't think that would lead to such a piss poor attempt at stopping up, I mean wow.

Just curious given your interest with how county have started

Leeds, Sheff Wed, Everton or even Middlesborough away but we'll probably draw Tranmere.

Thank you Dan, that's quite the list especially when you then add on obvious historic/local rivals.

We could always play our main rivals, but well you know....

Lincoln would be interesting, as would either of the Sheffield clubs at home, suppose Forest could be fun also.

Not sure what Rovers clusterfuck of a season last year has to do with this anyway.

I have nothing against either club, I’m more annoyed about all the bs spouted by non league covering pundits and journalists like Virgo and that gobshite Elliott about how the National League is basically at the same level as league 2/a virtual league 3 and using those two clubs points tally as an argument that it’s an injustice there are only 2 promotion slots. The fact is it’s a piss poor standard, a long way off this league (which isn’t great).

My Rochdale alarm bell has just gone off, they were very capable of looking like a decent team at times too.

As I’ve said before, I’m sure you guys will sort it out though.
I'm not as sure as you. I thought we'd finish around 11th, never bought in to the going straight up stuff but am now thinking bottom six.
Morecambe away next Tuesday will tell us a lot about where we are.
I still think we need a defender and a hard running midfielder to get us competitive.
