Sheff weds away is well one of those where i’m not annoyed but not happy, would’ve preferred them at home.

But at least it’s a close etc etc.

Shame not to have had an all notts tie with forest.

Vale away, mmmm. Not sure what to make of it, this time last year I would have said Vale were light years ahead of us, I'm not so sure now, neither side will want to lose "and concentrate on the league' plus both clubs will see it as a chance to get into the 3rd round and get one the of massive clubs, plus the obvious local rivalry which is pure hatred it seems with the younger generation of fans, for us slighty older lads it's still a big game but other old favorites like Stockport & Wrexham are back on the scene. Vale will be favorites as they are a league higher and at home, but all the pressure will be on them which could work in our favour.

Wanted Everton away but Bradford it is, Rather of been away tbh, haven't even there yet but guess will have to wait until the league game.

Not fussed about this cup so result isn't important. Knowing Marks family it will be a nice occasion for them though

The worst possible draw for us. The Vale would have been dead last on my list of teams to play.

What makes it even worse is when you see most of the other L2 teams get juicy ties. Wimbledon going to Chelsea, Newport hosting Brentford. Mansfield, Donny, Harrogate, Salford, Tranmere, all decent draws for them.

Honestly think of all the remaining L2 teams, we got the worst draw.

But, the silver lining is that its winnable, it's a short trip and we should have a decent following seeing how we've not played them since before Covid. Also long past time we got one over on them, they've won the last 3 encounters without conceding and we haven't beaten them in the last 5 meetings. No better time to get one over on them again.

Wrexham a very winnable game away from a MONEY SPINNER against one of the big six PL clubs.

Should we get through you can fully expect the Wrexham ball to vibrate when Liverpool or United are pulled out.

No chance they'll trust Martin O'Neill on that one.

They made it a tenner a pop all around when we went there a while back in the EFL Cup. Filled the home ends to be fair to them, was class (aside from the fact that they put 7 past us).
Should still be worth 1/4 million in gate etc.

Ours up there with yours. Likely loss away at smallish club. Again silver lining is localish. Last time we played them was when a certain Martin O’Neill was in charge for FA Trophy semi final. Odd he was the man to pull us out the hat for the tie!

Yeah I can't remember what we made off it to be honest. Wasn't trying to take the shine off it by the way, opposite in fact. Way better to go see it in a full stadium, even if the home fans did need pyro after every goal to tell them to stand up and clap. Great stadium too, was up high in the corner and had a superb view. One of the best grounds in the country for me, Stamford Bridge.

I don't mind it at all, I'd have preferred Stoke or Everton. But atleast it's an interesting tie, will be a good atmosphere could have been a hell of alot worst. There were some awful looking draws in the pot (Lincoln, Rotherham, Salford, Bradford, Mansfield ect) a huge of them away from home would have been much worst. Weve still got a chance to get through to round 3 and pull one of the big teams, and would be no better way of getting there than beating this lot in there back yard.

When was that? Don't think I've ever seen that pic, my first memories of it seem to be when they had no stand behind the goal. That must have been mid 90s as we went there in the cup but I was a nipper then so didn't go.

The big question.

Was martin o’neill a) nervous or b) absolutely wankered.

I’ll go with the latter.

The proper Shed End late 80’s. Was when Ken Bates had installed electric fencing but wasn’t given permission to switch it on. Was rebuilt early 90’s.

I just can't be arsed with Vale. We'll beat them, no problem, I just don't enjoy those games generally.

Same way I feel about playing Scunny. Apart from they often beat us. In our defence though they are quisling little rats who have aligned their demise perfectly with our revival to avoid having to play us for several seasons.

Vale quite often beat us lately, but in recent years, whenever we've been good, they've been shit and vice-versa so we keep avoiding each other.

I'd be up for it if it was a proper derby but the games quite often have a nasty atmosphere and I don't even care about Vale (and I think a lot of their more mature fans don't really care about us).

we care less about Crewe than your fans have seemed to about us, in the past Stoke, Walsall historically bigger rivals and more recent times Wrexham and Shrewsbury at times have been far more intimidating or full of trouble.

Fairly true on form though, we rarely seem to be at the same stage, probably the closest is 2018 when we were both really shit or 2020 when we were both in the hunt for promotion.

Be interesting, we are light years different as a club now to what we were last time we met on and off the pitch and will be favourites but its a cup tie and never know what changes either side may or may not make in this competition and if we figure out this new Zonal Marking system out in time!

I rarely see much trouble when we play Crewe nor a particularly nasty atmosphere? Had the ones where your fans smacked our keeper at your place but usually its pretty tame, plus you'll be in the Bycars now so no more decent facilities and get sneaked in from the back of the Dimensions centre.

Its an alright draw, winnable for both and fairly local, could of been worse.

It's all relative as there's rarely significant trouble at Crewe games but the most trouble I've seen has been at Crewe v Vale games. We beat you at your place in circa 2010 and when we came out of the away end there was a load of Vale fans waiting for us and they attacked the first few Crewe fans who tried to get out, so we turned round, went back in to the ground and left through a home exit. After a game at Gresty Road, there was a load of fans scrapping when we came outside. We've got a much higher % of little scrotes than we used to in our support, so I feel like the chances of trouble are probably higher these days, and I'm just too old to deal with that now...

Trouble will be more likely because it's the end of the summer holidays, the tickets will be cheap and we haven't been to Vale Park in over 4 years. So I expect some issues unfortunately.

What's the main entry and exit from the Bycars Stand? Take it there is no access allowed from Hamil Road?

It just don’t interest me away mid-week after doing it last year, I’m struggling to find the motivation for Donny next week if I’m being honest.

You missed out last season though, 4,000 stags fans the noise created was superb.

I was wondering that. Vale seemed to have made segregation considerably more of an issue now than it was previously. Far as Google Maps goes, it's only a narrowish walkway behind the new away end, so I imagine coaches will use a bit of the main car park now rather than the bit off Hamill Road?

There also appear to be turnstiles into the side stand from the Bycars Lane walkway, so keeping rival fans apart down that bottleneck will be interesting to say the least!

Yeah, i know everyone said was amazing, but there were train strikes which made it kinda impossible and it was the same day as the works xmas du which was free alcohol so kinda went for that.

I think the away fans now have allocated Dimensions carpark and then walk up Bycars Lane to the stadium. You can get there from Hamil Road but it’ll mean walking through all the home supporters and Staffs Police might get a bit funny about it. Worth noting as well it’s now fully cashless for anyone going which has created a few let’s say debates on that not that it bothers me.

Depending if you’re driving it’s worth using this to book parking in advance
