To be fair, considering the Russians aren't part of the EU it should be easy enough to deport them, surely?

Tempted to get out to Lens/Lille on Thursday, loads going. Wales & England will back one another in the face of neo-nazi Russians. The government should hand back passports so innocent fans have some form of protection, the French police sure aren't doing anything.

I was in Marseille on Saturday and it was basically just a fucking war zone all day. 1st kick off was about 2pm in one of the squares between russians and English but there was only around 10 russians so not that much happened then the 2nd kick off was around 4pm About 30 Algerian locals come round the corner and straight towards us all and the coppers fucked off up the road clearly knowing what was coming, anyway the dirty little bastards got dealt with then came what I'd say was literally a complete riot that went on for a hell of a long time. The videos you all see on the Internet are the start of this when the russians were just wading through the square outnumbering and severely injuring the odd England fan. After that the running battles up and down the street was unbelievable basically when the russians were matched in numbers and matched by people who wanted to have a pop back they weren't so fucking hard then. It was by far the worst scenes I've witnessed and some terrible injuries witnessed too. You could see it had kicked off in numerous other places too bricks, glass , dozens of cars smashed up literally outside our hotel. It wasn't a very enjoyable day tbh. The French police well what can I say there fucking spineless but that's no surprise is it there French.

A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
French authorities and UFEA need to wake up to the fact that there has been trouble every day of this tournament so far involving far many more nationalities than just England and Russia (although that seems to have been the worst clash so far). The local French lads seem to be a common factor as well, such as the previously peaceful Poland v N.Ireland. The local Plod should have the experience and intelligence to handle their own local club thugs?

Absolute zero chance of me being in Lille on Thursday, Despite what the French police say. Anyone would think they want us to be in the same city as the Russians.

The thing is, in Russia (where I lived for four years), the games cost about 2 quid to get into so it's still very much a working man's sport. The atmosphere at the games can be electric, it's like when I first started watching games in the early 90s. Most of England's hooligans have been priced out (or banned) over the years so the Russians are a lot better trained and used to it. There has been a lot of provocation with anti-Russia songs, too. A lot of Russians are resentful of the overly-negative western press and sanctions which keep chipping away at their country (with often baseless facts and bullshit stories). So, put all of that together, and the fact they love a drink, they will have a go. No excusing it, but there's a lot of anger (some of it justified) and coupled with the fact that Marseille is rough as fuck and the far right groups who follow England around, you see the results. With a bit of foresight, you wouldn't play Russia v. England in Marseille.

A few lads I know out there have had some form of gas put into the tent to knock them out for a few hours and had everything robbed from them during the night. Phones, money, bank cards the lot. Some strange folk about. Even took there clothes!

Ignore the Six Pints name for this, as that's for wind-ups..

Got back from Marseille last night.

I was in the port when the Russian's turned up. England fans just having beers, singing and eating. That included some families eating inside. I would compare it to a lot of fans congregating outside the Three Guineas. Next thing you know there's 200 russians armed to the teeth ready to charge out of nowhere. Instead of tear gassing the Russian's it was aimed at England fans standing outside the bar. I then moved inside the bar and another can was pelted actually into the restaurant.

I stayed inside the restaurant not seeing anything. By the time I came out the Russian's had gone. The tear gas was exactly what the Russian's wanted. As they wanted England fans piling into the side streets where the Russian's and Marseille youths could chase them. A question needs to be asked, as to why the Police did exactly what the local gangs and Russian's wanted?

It would be interesting to see where the police were from. As there has been problems with corruption in the Marseille police before with gangs. I know English police around were exasperated with the French police handling.

After that I headed onto the Metro (not after Police tried to block England fans and use tear gas again). The security going into the ground was extremely lax for all the build up prior. After the game a lot of the public transport was not running and meant England fans pouring back onto the streets.

Didn't see any England fans fight and thankfully the press is beginning to pick up the real story.

The FA getting Hodgson & Rooney to ask fans to 'behave' is an insult to the 1000's that have gone out to support their nation & have a good time. How dare they get attacked & beaten to a pulp by neo-nazi scum.

Our higher ups and media have been a disgrace, couldn't wait to point the finger at our own people and are now back tracking with the truth coming out

Were the Russians drunk though? I don't think so. You see reports of Russian hooligans being proud to have beaten up an English fan but really there isn't much to write about. England fans didn't help themselves by drinking from early in the morning, gathering up by thousands at the Vieux Port while the game was at 9pm. I arrived at the Vieux Port at 2 and you could tell that this was going to end badly. The tension was palpable.
I agree that the tear gas helped the Russians chasing off the English.

A day to forget all in all.

Why are England fans that actually want to have a drink and enjoy themselves in the wrong? We ain't talking about the 70s-90s anymore, these are genuine football fans there for the occasion of a tournament close to home, our 'firms' died out years ago, and none of them can leave the country anymore (we're talking circa 2000 people here).

Our fans can't not go out and enjoy themselves like every other nation, just because nations like Russia see us as some glorious crown based on 30 years ago.

I'm sure you saw all the videos on Thursday and Friday, Skinner. While the majority of England fans were just a bit drunk and boisterous and fairly harmless, there were plenty that were more than happy to retaliate. It was no where near the thuggery of the Russians, but we were far from innocent ourselves.

Most of the videos I saw was a case of self defence from the England fans, but fair enough if you have seen otherwise.

Some of our squad are hardly angels themselves!

Somebody like Rooney would probably be getting involved himself if he was a fan!

Exactly.

As I said previously in the thread, we've turned into Millwall on a national level. Whilst a few people will want to live up to the past reputation, 90% are genuine fans that get tarnished for it.

I've no doubt in my mind that there were England fans up for it and just as much at fault for all the shit that's gone on, but by the videos I've seen and from first hand stories from numerous people there, we're being wrongly accused. Why shouldn't our fans retaliate for self defence when you've got highly trained, roid head nazi wannabe tanks ploughing in to you (coincidently straight after the locals and French OB have had their bit). England regroup and stand their ground and oh that's it, we're the ones in the wrong.

Thing is, football hooliganism has changed in the UK compared to 30 years ago. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, far from it. It does but 99% of the time British hooligans attack fellow hooligans and ignore us "scarfers". That's why we were all so shocked at Millwall fans charging across the top tier of Wembley in the League 1 play off final - it's so rare that "normal" fans are targeted.
It seems that anyone is a target to the French youths and Russian mobs. Even the police just assume every English fan is a thug.
It really is a different kettle of fish over there. If provoked, English people will react. But (in the main) they sure as hell aren't looking for it. That isn't the case for others there.
And why have they threatened England and Russia with expulsion? What about the French thugs stirring it up across the country?

Going by what was seen, I don't think the Millwall fans were targeting scarfers, as much as I don't like to stick up for 'em.

Believe me, I'd love to get rid of the French thugs that stirred up trouble.

What? There were about 50-60 Barnsley lot revelling in the situation. You can't just blame Millwall just because it's Millwall.

I didn't read your whole post through but I do agree with you in the last part. It baffles me as to how UEFA can obviously only sanction from incidents inside the ground, so how the fuck are we getting punished? Our fans were clearly running away...

Seen tonight that an Russian MP is praising Russian fans for doing country proud and making out 90% of fans go for a fight.
I bet he won't be saying same in 2 years time if England fans cause any trouble over there.

If England fans cause trouble over there they will get destroyed by the police and probably the locals too. If they don't the prisons will. You'd have to have a death wish to go out there with that mindset imo.

Aye Russian prison sounds horrific. As do the prisons that serve the populace of Marseille. Some lads will be feeling very alone & scared right now, they'll be cursing themselves and wishing they could turn back time.
