Helder Postiga and Hugo Almeida will be shaking in their boots at this, as will much of the Portugal old guard. This is a seriously talented Portugal youth side. Silva and Carvalho will rule this team for years to come. I can see Silva getting a big move after this. He's better than Monaco. If Arsenal didn't have such a plethora of attacking players, I'd have said that they should be straight on the phone.

Makes the pundits here who thought Portugal were just average and we would beat them easily look silly..

Yeah the Portuguese are decent and will probably be the toughest test in our group, although I don't think they're too dissimilar to us. I'd fancy us to beat the Swedes and then the Italians will be a challenge as ever but definitely more beatable than they were the last time when they have Immobile and co.

I'll be interested to see how Southgate goes. His squad suggests he's going to pack the middle more than looking to play wide. I'd like to see Pritchard in a central position behind the striker as he's excelled for Brentford there. I'm intrigued to see whether he plays Kane and Berahino or if he just goes with one. I could see him maybe going them two and Redmond in a front 3 with 3 CMs behind. That would likely mean Pritchard gets dropped mind and you get a Ward-Prowse, Carroll, Hughes, Chalobah amalgamation.

I'll be honest, I didn't expect them to be this good, although I'm fairly happy with that prediction. Aside from the defence capitulating against Italy, we held our own all the way through.

Of course - 4-0 against Germany is going to surprise anyone but some pundits (or rather ex players) were a bit dismissive but then I guess they would be without the knowledge of the Portugal players.

Are you referring to the current youth generation of German footballers there, Mente?

Why him in particular?

Agree here. Di Matteo wouldn't be a good appointment. Needs to rethink his approach after his dismal effort at Schalke.

Fair play to Portugal…funny that they've been a one-man team for the last few years yet all of a sudden they look to have a bloody good future. I can't say I know many of that team apart from William Carvalho to be honest.

yeah, it is really depressing, our U-17 became runners-up at the last Euro, our U-19 is the current european champion and our U-21 were be able to qualify for the Olympic games for the first time since 1988.

who gives a fuck about this result? our U-21 from 2011 finished third in the qualyfing group stage behind the czechs and Island and were only able to beat Northern Ireland and San Marino in it, with players like with Kroos, Hummels, Müller, Draxler, Schmelzer, the Bender twins and many, many more.

I give lots of fucks about this result. It says a lot of the lack of promising up-and-coming players, especially upfront.
It also shows that this Portuguese side is gonna be awesome.

its a youth team! the names in it are changing every year! if one or two will make the cut it will be enough for the senior team, you can't have every year a golden generation

It also shows that this Portuguese side is gonna be awesome.

indeed, that could be true.

Can't see us winning to be completely honest. If Portugal would've gone for it in the group we wouldn't have drawn.

There are just no runners for Portugal. They dominate the ball but everything is in front of Sweden. Never a pass on in behind, only wide.

The quality of Sweden's penalties so far has been incredible.

Watched it back, quite like the look of Sweden's defence, the fact that one of them plays in the 5th tier is in incredible as well. I'd say they deserved it as well, after Portugal took off the midfielder late in the 2nd half, Sweden dominated and bar some pretty lacklustre finishing should have won it in normal time, and then extra time (especially that chance Guidetti had).

For a 0-0 in a final, I really bloody enjoyed that.

Going into work was a bit weird this morning. Of course I never thought I'd see Sweden win anything, ever. We won the Olympics in 1948, that's it. If it wasn't for work I would've gone there like 4000 other swedes driving, flying, bloody walking to Prague to see the final. But still, I'll likely never see Sweden win anything again so I'm trying to enjoy it as much as I can. Truly an amazing achievement.
