I like the statements that AL and the trust have made. I think it's most likely a few new owner mistakes coupled with the utter mess left behind by the previous owner.

Changed the name of this thread seeing as it's diverted from the original topic.

Glad he's gone - seems AL has finally realised that Wellens was the leak all along.

I'm sure Wellens will be trying for the Donny job as we speak.

I just hope AL goes for experience as opposed to some unknown foreigner.

Oh weird. Should probs tag " - Wellens sacked!" on to the end of the thread title now!

At least it's still relatively early in the off season, hope the next appointment doesn't drag on like when we hired Stephen Robinson in early July two years ago...

Still, this is all getting a bit odd.

Glad you waited till now to sack him, as I'm sure if you'd sacked him earlier you'd have ended up with Sheridan and we'd have Slade.

You could do worse than Ferguson, terrible in league one but would get you out of this league if you give him a massive budget

Wellens won’t get our job, even though he is a club legend

Considering Wellens has no involvement in the decision to sign Baxter (and 3 others incoming), it leads me to suspect AL knows who the new man will be already and said new man may well have been involved in those transfers.

Wow this is weird.............I have a feeling AL is making a statement, and not a written one !!!

Hopefully a big budget and a proven manager, Ferguson, Rosler or a Grayson would do............... if its going to be an inexperienced manager it will be Scholes....... but he will do for me if he still wants it

On the one hand you’ve got the return of Baxter, the extension of lower season ticket prices and the apparent ability to throw £11k a week at a player’s wages.

On the other hand you’ve got sacking managers over the phone, multiple damaging press reports, rumours of players rejecting us based on our previous (and current?) late wage payments and now Anthony Gerrard coming out on Twitter suggesting the owner is a clown.

So which is it? Because depending on who you believe we’ll either be up as champions or be falling through the trap door this season.

There’s a never a dull moment at this circus of a club, that’s for sure.

I don't do Twitter. What's gerrard said exactly
He’s not said much in terms of exact goings on or facts but certainly pedalling the feeling that things aren’t right at the club and haven’t been for 11 months. To which David Dunn piped up and said ‘11 months?’

It was good while it lasted.

Reading that article reminded me of our time under Ribero, and is why we are where we are. If just half of that article is true, then you have big problems.

What must new players like Jose Baxter think? Seems really poorly planned timing tbh. Why not have done this 5 weeks ago?

From reading that article I think you’re going to end up with an absolute mental, out of no where appointment. Some bloke that’s managed in the Mozambique 3rd division or something like that.

There’s no way Paul Scholes would tarnish his football career by walking into that potential car crash.

I am inclined to agree and think your scenario is more likely but if you were scholes- world renound footballer and fan of the club- surely there is no better time to take over the club than when it's just been relegated? The chance to get it promoted and be an instant legend? He wouldn't have had that in league 1

Equally there’s a danger he might be the one to take Oldham out of the FL.
Agree that the timing of this sacking is strange.

I agree but if it’s true that you’re not paying players and it seems that your owner is the one signing random players from Europe then I can’t see why Scholes would walk into that.

Very strange scenario you’ve found yourselves in. Would hate to see you guys drop out of the FL.

So someone leaks big info to the press and then a day or so later Wellens gets sacked... makes you think?
