Very few clubs prosper if the chairman and board aren't professional and in good shape.
Late payments and sacking a manager at this time don't bode well, where's the organisation? Quite a few teams do the two relegations in two years thing and it always seems to be because the boardroom have no strategy, then panic, spend loads, turn over too many players, panic some more , sack another manager, then run out of games, at which point the chairman realises his financial commitment is unsustainable and tries to sell the club to anyone so long as he can stop haemorrhaging his own money.

It's a mystery what's going on at Oldham, but from what I've seen on social media there's a clear split between fans genuinely worried for the future of their club and fans who have fingers in their ears not listening to the media stories surrounding the club whilst worshipping this Abdallah and begging him to splash the cash to get them up at the first attempt.

I tend to think the latter are very very naive personally. But it'll be interesting to see who takes the job because Oldham look a basket case waiting to happen looking from the outside on in.

Personally I think AL is desperate to succeed, but came into the club with blinkers on. The job is clearly much bigger than he anticipated, and his inexperience could cost us.
While having the club's best interests at heart is one thing, I think he wants to do it his way, and I don't think his way is one that can succeed in English football

Some of the names being linked are unbelievable. Seedorf managed AC Milan and Jol was at Spurs and now they're competing for a league 2 job alongside Paul Scholes and Patrick Kluivert? Oldham must be by far the most massiveist club to ever play at this level to attract names like that. If they don't win the league by at least 15 points it will be an utter disgrace.

Have some faith for gods sake..... AL s new tenure will take shape once he's got rid of the bad apples and dead wood.... there may be more news stories to come soon, god knows were we would all be tho if we believed everything written in the DM etc....

I remain positive things are about to change for the better and we will hopefully mount a real push for a quick return...... a change in fortunes will bring more fans back and hopefully if AL makes the next management choice the right one then all this could come true by next May..........

Oh and 15 points clear is a tad optimistic..... I think a 10 point margin would be more like it..........

If he needs any advice on how to be chairman of the year he need not look on any further than Stewart Day, the self confessed greatest chairman in Bury FC's history. Anyway, Day's door is always open, or so he says he just neglects the important bit, the replying to emails and letters. So yes, Id say your chairman should drop him an email, I am sure Day will never reply.

In all seriousness your situation looks similar to ours. Five years of record breaking losses, CCJs, WUPs, lies, big name players, world class training facilities and a genuinely blossoming youth system and we are still here despite being constantly told we are going out of business. I have come to accept this is how my club is and it is unlikely it will ever change.

Nail on the head with this post, basically what happened to us to an extent, but our old owners cut all funds, sold all our assets and stopped funding the club once the fans protested against them in November 2016. After that we had a slow painful slip into the abyss as we lost all our players along with our league status.

Don't know all the ins and outs at Oldham, but unless their board gets its act together and gets a plan in place then they could slip further down in this league as well.

I see they signed a few foreign players as well last season, we did exactly the same the year we went down from this league - Most of them were panic buys and were not up to what was required in this league, they all had a huge culture shock. Nothing wrong with gambling on one or maybe two, but not five or six.

My big fear was that we let it drag on into mid July like 2016, so I'm glad it's been sorted so quickly.

No indication he'll be a particularly good manager, but we'll see.

Well I don't think you can say he's the same as Lee Johnson, Darren Kelly, David Dunn, in that he has years of experience working under managers at Coventry, Man City and Huddersfield.

Not that I think he's the next superstar manager or anything, but he seems like a calm, stabilising influence, which Frank-ly is what we need.

If we can maneuver some players in and out, we should at least consolidate at this level while we sort out internal issues. As I keep saying, fingers crossed...

I thought your new owners were reasonably stable? Oldham's ownership seems more in line with our own than with yours.
