Awful idea. Better then that plan they had where EVEN THE CHAMPIONS would have had to win a play-off to go up though.

Should be like the Scottish play offs:

Game 1 = Play off team #3 V Play off team #4 (@ #3's ground)
Game 2 = Play off team #2 V Winner Game 1 (@ #2's ground)
Game 3 = Play off team #1 V Winner Game 2 (@ #1's ground OR a neutral ground)

Ive got a better idea lets just scrap the table and hold a giant play off at the end of the season involving all 24 teams plus the top 4 from conf north and south,

The winners of these games get to call heads or tails in a coin toss ( covered by bt sport) against the 16 losers.

Once this is settled we put all 32 names into a hat with the 16 winners of the coin toss put in last to give them a greater advantage and then we pull out 8 names.

The 8 surviving clubs are each given a homing pigeon to be released at wembley and the first 2 animals to reach the home stadium of the surviving teams go through. ( sorry gateshead and barrow).

The 2 finalists play off at wembley at just 200 quid a ticket and 50 quid to park to decide who sits on the fa panel to choose who goes up.

The fa pick the richest or most glamourous club to join the football league

I've heard worse ideas.

Don't forget people reacted like playoffs were stupid when they were first introduced. This would bring about a real advantage to finishing 2nd or 3rd, which people have long complained about. It also stretches the places of importance in a 24 team league from 9 (5 at the top, 4 at the bottom) to 11. This will reduce the number of "dead rubber" games at the end of the season, which should help to make the competition a bit fairer - i.e. fewer games between teams where one has something to play for, and the other doesn't (frequently resulting in the team with something to play for getting a result). These normally happen by circumstance, but it's not completely random (though I would argue that the fixtures compilers probably try to ignore that sort of thing anyway).

Clubs will like it as playoff games make money. More chance to finish in a position to give you a chance to go up. More important playoff position deciding games to draw in larger crowds (which if it does, you have to argue it would increase the excitement).

I think in a few years most teams down here will grow to like it. For now it will be received with the whole "change is not good" brigade until we've had a chance to try it out.

With the shambles that has been the Conference South playoffs, a team finishing 8th or 9th could end up making the playoffs under this system......what a joke.

The conference north and south playoffs have been a one-off this year, with a review of the ground grading requirements well overdue (which is what really determines that)

We all know the benefits of play-off games, how far do you go though? Why 6 and not 7? Why 7 and not 8?

The more you go the more you dilute it. If every game is for playoff seeding then every game is worth the same, and there are very few big games once again.

At the end of the day it's an experiment that hasn't been run yet. Maybe it'll go for a few years and clearly be worse, or maybe it'll be better. We'll just have to see. I'd anticipate there will be no clear difference and it will all come down to personal preferences, but it would be interesting to see.

Clubs should just be promoted on the basis of average attendance. It's all that really matters.
sounds good, with the number of low supported clubs in league 2 currently we'd be replacing them in no time!

Truly shocking idea. The thought of the team that finishes Seventh being promoted is a joke. As there is no automatic promotion for the team finishing second maybe a better idea , if they have to change it at all, was for the team finishing second automatically qualifies for the final with the other 4 battling it out to see who plays them. Of course, the best plan would be that there are 2 automatic promotion places but the League 2 clubs would block that idea all day long. The same League 2 clubs who want there to be 4 promotion places for them to battle it out for to League One. They seem to want it both ways.

So if these extra games are 2 legs does it mean that the final will need to be put back a week? Will Wembley even be available that weekend?

Load of bollocks.

Every season in some league, someone, somewhere, always has to tamper with something, which generally works.
