Judging by the impromtu board meeting by the Barnsley directors after the game I reckon Lee Johnson will be off tomorrow !

Weve had many harder games against National League opposition and had several key players out injured as well.

They werent really bad like Notts County were last night, just nowhere near League 1 standard.

I couldn't resist and have posted JJ1532's comments on the non-league forum:bg:

It is perfectly true that Eastleigh are way bottom of the National league fair play league and their fan still keeps blaming the officials, but they do have several quality ex FL players thanks to their multi millionaire owner.

I was surprised to see you have Mornflake advertising on the back of your shirts.
How long has this been going on for?

League 1 standard is crap this year. We've only lost 2 of the last 14 and I think we've only played well about twice. Non league teams are catching up all the time.

6-2 to go with last season's 6-3 in this round.

One of those strange games where Colchester deserved to win but I think 6-2 was harsh, despite the fact that Colchester could have put double figures past us. Whilst Macauley Boone was very impressive, I thought George Moncur totally ran the show, our central midfield disappeared, partly down to our own ineptitude but partly due to his creative movement and ability.

You can see why Colchester have scored a lot, yet conceded so many in L1. Going forward the distribution is excellent and the team have the speed to burn the opposition down the flanks, the passing is precise and I'm sure the defenders on the ball must have laughed at how much time and space they had on the ball.

Kudos to the Shrimpers on the coach to Scunny who've raised at least 250 quid in a whip round for the local steel workers.

Football is a family...

Indeed it is. Thanks to all Southend fans for the support shown for our steelworkers. That includes the phone lights show during the game.

Look at the muppets in front of Garratt, no wonder he wanted to call it a day early.

Never a red card though. Ball was well gone, so Garratt wasn't last man(plus Nugent was covering) or denying a goal scoring opportunity. Plus their lad initiated contact by throwing his leg into Garratts. We should appeal that, because we'd probably win it. Well, we should.

What's a Crewe fan doing with Frank, a famous Alty fan as his avatar?

Timperley born and bred, me.

We have a case, not sure it's strong enough for the FA to go against their ref though. Losing Garratt for a game is the most gutting part of today.

He won't be. Our chairman said last season that Johnson "would be the last manager he'd sack as owner of the club", and it looks like he's sticking by it. It's an absolute piss take really, any other manager in the football league would have been out of a job following 8 defeats out of 9 in all comps, never mind one managing a club that's spent most of it's time in the division above.

Many congrats today, full deserved win and you barely had to put any bodies on the line in traditional non-league vs league style. We wouldn't have scored in a million years.

Any other manager except Steve Davis that is.

Ffs Barnsley!

If you're going to lose to a non-league club in the cup - please, anybody but the Altrinchunts.

Why the vitriol? The press campaign beforre the 1980 Football League AGM.

Rot in non-league (preferably something like division 7 of the East Cheshire Combination) forever.

Oh, and Frank Sidebottom was about as interesting as watching paint dry (and shared a scriptwriter with the latter).

If only Alty had won that election instead of Dale, the world would be a much better place.

It seems to be the thing to say this season but I have to agree. League One is a very poor standard based on what I've seen. We've regressed massively in both personell and performance (generally) and are points ahead of where we were a year ago.

Whilst they may be struggling this season the three promoted teams were all far stronger than anyone this time around.

I have to agree with you about Frank, and I knew him in real life as well.

If your club were denied progression into the league for year after year like Alty were because of the ridiculous old boys club that existed then you would feel equally pissed off and you didnt deserve to stay up then. Surely you agree with the concept of promotion and relegation? thats didnt exist in them days, so clubs trying to get voted in had no choice but to lobby the league clubs and press to get support. If the Luton chairman hadnt been stuck in a taxi then we would have been promoted and Dale would have deservedly dropped into non league obscurity.

These days we know our place and next round its knocking you lot out :)

Might be Altrincham vs. Bury ..................... 'The Metrolink Derby' :2thumb:

And if it is what's the chances of the line being 'closed for maintenance' on the day!

Jesus Christ, we were shit yesterday. Eastleigh were the better team even before our 9 year old keeper (who is also our best player) was sent off.

Atleast we can concentrate fully on staying up...and who knows,a good run could bring the play-offs within sight.

Did you play for Timperley big shorts then :) How come you support Crewe if from Alty?

Parental influence. First Crewe game was actually Altrincham vs Crewe in the FA Cup in '95. Did go to Alty quite regularly tho, not been in years, think the last (non-Crewe) game was Darlington in the FA Cup (2001ish?).

And Frank was ace. You know he was, he really was.

He was daft as a brush, he used to come to home games and entertain the fans sometimes and in real life (Chris Sievey) was very insecure and anonymous. In later life he decided Man City were a better bet for his career!

I was at Alty v Crewe in '79.
We were really shit back then and lost 3-0 to a team that some predicted might well be replacing us in div4 a few months later.
The old pals network came to our rescue, thankfully.

I was there in 95... It was one of my first away games. It was my mate's first ever Crewe game and Lee Unsworth became his favourite player because of the stunning 25 yarder he scored that day.
