FC fans are planning to boycott the first half in protest of the game being televised.

Can see where the FCUM fans are at, but surely anything but a full withdrawal from the competition is just pointless posturing.

All or nothing.

They're entitled to protest. Really have no idea why people are annoyed at FC United's stance.

No, you're missing the point. He was saying that, if anything, a meek 45 minute protest isn't enough and I agree.

They themselves will tell you that their club was set up to not only protest at how Man Utd were run, but at how modern football was run in general. Moving kick off times was one of those things. For me, I agree that they should protest(and I don't think anyone is disagreeing with that of their stance), but they should have gone a lot further than a written refusal. They should have looked to withdraw from the competition and taken the possible fine. It would have upheld their principles and made them look like a legitimate club of protest. Instead, they've timidly given in and allowed their game to be a moved to a Monday night which suits nobody but the armchair fans, FA and TV companies. Unless the possible fines and punishments(points deductions, heavy fines etc) meant it wasn't worth withdrawing, I'm very disappointed they have simply knuckled under.

FC United don't have anything in their club constitution saying they won't play on TV.

The board aren't going to make a unilateral decision to withdraw from a competition that would lead to a huge fine and probable exclusion from next year's tournament. Unlike most clubs they are a democratic organisation.

Ire should be directed towards the FA rather than FC United.

Nobody is bothered whether FC or any club boycott a televised match its just that if you're going to do it. Do it properly.

I have a feeling we may switch system for the Stevenage game. The midfield diamond we play normally is basically there to give Dack his best position, and he's suspended for this one. We could possibly see a revert to the 3-5-2 of last season, with fringe players being given a chance.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us line up:

Glenn Morris
Egan - Ehmer - Lennon
Jackson -------------------Garmston
Hessenthaler - Morris - Loft
McDonald - Williamson

We will go full strength apart from Uche possibly as on 4 bookings. I expect a tight game, at home we hammered Dartford and Salisbury from that level so hopefully we can get a good result.

Barnsley seem to be on a fucking dire run. If ever we were going to have a sniff against L1 opposition then this is it.

I'd still take a draw though. Quite fancy a trip to Oakwell.

I love the first round. Great to see the small clubs taking on the league boys on their patch. Tight little grounds with great atmosphere.
The non league paper on a Sunday is a great read. We really should be proud that we have such a strong pyramid. You can go down to step 5 And see gates up to 1000 on a Saturday. The cup is a leveller. Expect a few upsets. Glad we are playing Peterborough. If we lose there is no shame

We never play well vs Fleetwood at home and are normally dire in the cup, but there are no excuses this time round. Wonder if Smith may rotate a little? I doubt it now we have no game against Shrewsbury. Let's hope we go thorugh and get that big 3rd round draw we have all craved for a while.

Off to Altrincham in a minute to stand on an open terrace in the pissing rain whilst watching my team lose an 8th game in a row to a non league side. It's what the cup's all about. Let's av it you slags.
