A lot of money to watch a league two team anywhere.

It's pretty poor from a club to do that tbh - yes, there is quick buck to be made, but that's already done from the TV and prize money.

When we had Liverpool when in the conference, we did ourselves increase the matchday price - from £18 to £20 - which covered the extra stewarding etc. Upping it beyond that is shitting on loyal fans who more than often watch football which isn't of the best quality (maybe Newport are fantastic to watch).

If I were going to do it - I'd charge say £25 and then knock a fiver off for STH's as a gesture of goodwill for supporting the team/club

I think the season ticket thing would be a lot fairer and pretty easy to implement too.

There’s Tottenham away end tickets going for above face value for our game. Maybe should have milked them

We've now sold over 4000 of our allocation for Palace after only a day and a bit on general sale. I'm genuinely a bit staggered. It's just after crimbo, is a bit of an arse to get to, there are no trains that will get you back to Gy after, they're one of the smaller PL clubs (probably only be 8k home fans), not the best ground and we were playing them regularly within (relatively) recent memory. I personally wouldn't go to this game and back on the day and am using it as an excuse to see family/see a few sights over the weekend.

Magic of the cup eh!

Our game v Spurs will be a “sell out” but still have 3,300 empty seats. Such a shame.

That’s pretty shit from Newport raising their prices but not as bad as Yeovil v Man Utd who charged £35 seating and £30 standing in last years FA Cup.

From high prices to low ones, I'm off to West Ham-Birmingham, £11 for my son and myself. I nearly changed my mind though as it's a complete farce to actually buy a ticket. Firstly I am now a member of West Ham as I had to be just to buy a ticket even though I explained to them I am groundhopping and won't be coming back unless Southend play them and then I'll be getting tickets from them.

Then I asked to pick them up on the day, I was told 'you can't do that'. Obviously I was a little confused by this, apparently as I was buying them now it was too early to reserve them at the ticket office. I asked, when do you print these tickets out? 'oh about 5 days before the game.' I said so if I buy them 4 days prior to the game you'd let me pick them up, yes was the reply to this, followed by, we might not have tickets though but you can try it, please remember your membership number as well. I said, but if you're only releasing them that near to the game surely you can save postage and I'll just pick them up. 'No we can't do that.'
Then came something even better, I said, ok in that case I need them sent to a different address. 'What a different address to the one your card is registered to?' I said, yes, thinking this won't be a problem.
'Oh you need to call the ticket office.' Am I not speaking to the ticket office? 'No this is ticket sales.' Is that not the same thing, aren't you in the ticket office? 'No we're a different place, you need to redial the same number and press option 4.' and there is no way you can do this, even though you have all my details? 'No, you need to go through the ticket office.'

At one point during the 'ticket office' part she also said to me, why haven't you done this online? like no one ever calls them for tickets. I then said if I'd been online could I have either picked them up on the day or changed my address for where I want them sent. 'No.' Good job I called you then.
Thanks West Ham, premier league efficiency.

I think most Premier league clubs now have membership/ID numbers for people who have brought tickets at any stage for matches but that second part does seem a right old mess.

But then the West Ham set up has been ever since they moved to the Olympic stadium.

I bet the ticket office probably isn't even run by the club - and paid for by us tax payers!

Unsurprising, Tottenham has sold out a couple of hours after going on general sale. Let the chaos commence.

Chaos = sanitised atmosphere when some people who haven’t been for 10 years start telling people to sit down and stop making noise?

Chaos = unreserved seating and people who have never been before sitting where they want.

The capacity has been set at 13,500 for the Spurs game, which means it will be our biggest gate since we lost to Millwall in the quarter finals in 2004. It will be great to see the place packed to the rafters again.

Hartlepool in the playoffs the same season was 15k but yes.

Hartlepool was the following season (2004-5) and the gate was 13,300, so this crowd should be bigger (providing everyone turns up).
Unfortunately, having made it to general sale quite a few will have ended up in the hands of Spurs fans and touts. They're already being sold for up to £200 on unscrupulous websites.

200 unrestricted and 150 restricted view tickets left from our second batch of 1000 for Palace. Have had 5168 in total, so that's 4800+ sold so far by my maths.

There were massive queues outside Prenton Park this morning, so I would like to think the majority of tickets ended up in the right hands. I think the club did all they could to ensure that genuine supporters got tickets.

If we had unlimited seats available, I think we could have sold 20,000 plus for a match like this. The hype around the Premier League is ridiculous now and football has changed a lot since we regularly had big cup matches.

Fair play to anyone who is prepared to pay 200 quid to watch a Tranmere game by the way. :p

Really not going to get round the fact they’re classing 13,400 as a sell out in a 16,750 stadium. Missed a big opportunity there.

They’ll no doubt have chaos on the turnstiles too. Probably have to turn up at 6pm if you want to see kick off.

I don't think it was cost effective / logistically possible to ensure every seat in the ground could be used and introduce reserved seating. The capacity will have been reduced a bit anyway by the creation of the disabled enclosure, segregation etc.

Forgive my ignorance, but why is your capacity reduced? Safety certificate issues?

Isn't the low(er) row(s) of the away end dangerous because of no seats but the fittings still being there or something?

I vaguely recall Wrexham fans commenting on it last season.

There are various reasons, but the main one is a 10% reduction in capacity because seating is unreserved everywhere apart from the Main Stand. The club know there are still a certain number of damaged seats in the ground, even though 6,000 seats have been replaced in the last couple of years. To operate at full capacity with reserved seating we would have to check every seat in the ground, and replace any that are damaged, between now and the Spurs match which was not financially viable or possible logistically.

The number of seats in the ground has been reduced slightly to about 15,000 by the creation of a new disabled area, and other changes. So the published capacity of 16,000 is actually out of date now, even without the unreserved seat reduction.

Various fans damaged them in the away end over the last few years, mostly Bury and Wrexham.. and it wasn’t worth the club fixing them. The few remaining were moved into home areas where they were more likely to be used. Even in this league no one has come close to needing those two rows.

That reduced away end from 2400 to 2000.

Final allocation of 363 received for Palace taking the total number of tickets received up to 5500. Assuming we sold out the previous allocation then we're looking at 5150+. Hopefully we'll shift this last batch as well.

When the draw was made I thought we’d take around 2500 - 3000 then when they made it 5:30 ko thought it would definitely be around the lower end of 2500, I know our away support shouldn’t still surprise me but it really does, fantastic support just wish I was one of em, bastard work. :(

Has to be said, very impressive by Grimsby. Not a glamour fixture at all.

Certainly is, sure the upsurge in wins since the draw will have helped shift a few more than they hoped.
Who knows they may even outnumber palace on the day!

That has been mentioned but I think £15 tickets will pull in about 7-8,000 home fans. Any idea how many Everton fans will turn up for your game?

They're expecting a near sell-out but I can't see 40k turning up. Maybe 30k-35k.

Oh nice little earner there. Is it 40 or 45% teams get? We'll have certainly earnt our fair share of that from our tie!

Think it's 45% each and 10% in 'the pot', so should be decent although an average of £10 tickets are cheaper than you'd probably expect for a PL tie.

It's the TV money that's the good, quick earner in a cup run.
