Whilst I get your thinking, for me it's one of those really frustrating things in football. The punishment for some offences changes in relation to how far into the game they occur, which is just plain wrong.
Pleased for Grimsby putting in a real good effort against one of the PL clubs. Regardless of the final result, it proves that 11 v 11 isn't always about who has the bigger wallet.
Completely agree - the challenge on Freck by a Cambridge player about 3 minutes into the game a couple of weeks ago is a perfect example. It was a yellow all day long but the ref bottles it purely because it was early on in the game. Whether that encouraged both sides to ramp up the niggly fouls, I'm not sure, but I think there has to be consistency.

Going by that match alone, I don’t think time of challenges makes any difference given the assault on O’Neil midway through the second half by your thug which resulted in his injury and changed the game in your favour.

Or Akinde being hauled down when through on goal by one of your centre halves- ref didn't even give a free kick.

10 players each now and new balls please

If the ref didn’t give a free kick, it clearly wasn’t a foul on Akinde so largely irrelevant to this conversation. We got a free kick for the assault on O’Neil however. The point made by Gilbert was that fouls in the first minute seem to carry less weight than later in the game, I merely pointed out that was clearly bollocks based on the match he was referencing.

Can’t understand why that wouldn’t be given, I mean it’s not like Akinde has a reputation for chucking himself on the deck or anything.

So all in all then I’d say League 2 teams can be proud of their efforts this weekend, 2 victories from 5 games against Premier League teams is terrific and also 2 other really tight games that with a bit of luck could’ve gone to replays and the mitigating circumstances in the Tranmere game being that they were playing a team on a completely different level to the other 4 Premier teams.
I say well done to all 5 teams just for getting to the 3rd round too as getting there as a League 2 club is a very good achievement in my opinion.
Also I wonder what the odds would’ve been on all 5 League 2 sides being drawn against Premier League opposition, only 20 Premier League clubs out of 64 in the draw so odds of drawing one were about 30% yet all 5 of us did, bizarre.

Not like your defenders to commit fouls un-necessarily either....ask Fox!

3 of bottom 4 PL clubs and Top 3 CL clubs all go out...you'd think something else was more important than the FA Cup

Terrific performances from both Newport and Oldham today. Both teams thoroughly deserving their victories! Well done.

Great news for hard core Yeovil fans is that our result now means a midweek jaunt up here for them.

There's always a fall guy.

Good to see Oldham and Newport get rewarded with proper glamour ties.........
Would’ve struggled to pick 2 shitter ties if they’d tried, poor bastards.

Agreed. BBC creaming themselves because Arsenal are playing Man U and a few other PL ties, but pretty awful. Only Wimbledon v West Ham stands out for me.

Arsenal/United is nailed on for the tele obviously, Wimbledon v West Ham too, they’ll go Accrington v Derby/Saints. It’s either a prem side away at a Lower club or Frank Lampard.

Should be Barnet v Brentford aswell with them being the lowest side left in it but it will probably be something like Man City/Burnley...
