We have been awful in the FA Cup for ages so will probably draw someone like Oldham at home, think it'll be a breeze and they'll rock up and win 2-0.

If we’re going to do it let’s it do it properly against some club nobody’s heard of before like Corinthian Casuals.

Shame for Hanley they just came up short against Brackley as if we drew them that could have brought some interest. Watch us get Gillingham away though…

I dream of a decent run in the FA Cup, we made it to R3 twice in consecutive seasons, the second of them was in the 09/10 season when we lost away to Notts County...they were in the Football League and we were in the Conference, how times have changed. Since then we have made it to R2 three times but otherwise have gone out in R1 or the Fourth Qual Rd...so, I just want a winnable game at home...sods law it will probably be someone like Ipswich or Sunderland away!

If I was going to pick a team that potentially no-one had heard of, it wouldn't be Corinthian Casuals!
Imho one of the most famous non-league teams?

Never heard of them!

Usually a prime Vale beating opponent.

In days gone by when the FA Cup was still a sporting national treasure, I liked nothing better than for Tranmere to be drawn away at exotic places like Telford, Spennymoor and the likes of Bangor. With Tranmere’s recent sojourn into non league, I think I would now prefer a trip to somewhere more cultured like Sheffield Wednesday!

They were the inspiration for Real Madrid's white kits, also for Brazilian giants corinthians. Think they famously abhored the professional game and placed sportsmanship above all else. Weren't they the team that deliberately missed a penalty because they considered penalties to be unsporting.

Been there, done that. :bg:

I recall yes, we had to wear your red shirts as our grey kit was deemed a clash… Vale having to wear red was always going to be a bad start!

We got smashed 3-0 by Enfield in the 70s/80s, lost to Canvey Island after a 4-4 in the first game when we led 4-2 going into injury time, Scarborough, Chasetown which was the biggest gap I believe for a giant killing, Kings Lynn last season, needed replays to get past Ford United, Dartford, Grantham Town and Maidenhead.

Only ones I recall us beating straight out were Shortwood, Salisbury, Aylesbury and FGR!

We’ve had some glorious FA cup moments so guess it’s give and take with it mind!

I think Hereford were still in the Conference (if I remember rightly they came back up later that season) when they beat us 4-0 in what should have been Foyles last game if I would have had anything to do with it at the time.

Also remember us sticking 4 past Altrincham in the early 90’s. Might have been the same year we beat Stoke 3-1.

Hereford were league 2, us league 1, I had the unfortunate pleasure of attending that!

We’d had that great night at White Hart Lane a couple of weeks before where we’d taken Spurs all the way and this was the polar opposite! Sure they had a French lad who took us apart.

Ah you’re right just Googling that. Hereford had come up that May.

Just seeing one or two of the names in that Vale team was an eye opener and a clue not to give Foyle the budget we did that following summer. Colin Miles and Stefan Moore to name just two.

To be fair we had a decent season that year but the next it fell apart. Shame Horton left

Selfishly hoping for something that is moved to Friday, Sunday or Monday as I’m busy on the Sat. Someone we’ve never played or not played for donkeys years would be nice.

I love a local derby in the cup, Shortwood would be brilliant, we have only played them in pre-season friendlies in recent years...think that game might have been on the telly...must have been a bit of a culture shock for the Vale fans when they realised that Rovers are actually the biggest team in Nailsworth.

The best we have managed so far are Gloucester, Bath City, Team Bath, Mangotsfield and another team...think they are called Swindon...oddly, all away from home.

I went the Shortwood game, Monday night on TV, had to park a few miles away and they ran a shuttle bus but was an excellent evening, great welcome and unsegregated!

Driving up the single track hill to the ground was like where is this? Imagine it looks pretty stunning in day light.

That was the game Micky Adams invited one of the TV reporters into the dressing room as a guest before kick off… they could not air the clip though as Micky stated to his team..

“TV cameras are here, this **** is here and it’s to see you fall flat on your ******* face!, Don’t give him what he wants!” Don’t think he was too comfortable in fairness!

It feels weird starting in the first round proper. For pretty much most of my time as a Sutton supporter getting to the first round constituted an amazing cup run.

It would be interesting to be on the other side of a league vs non-league clash.

That involved us being held to a 1-1 draw at VP, Luke Rodgers missing two penalties in the replay before they scored the winner. Also didn’t score against them from open play across the whole tie. Not our proudest one that.

We’ll probably get Notts County. The first time I was aware of Sutton was an FA Cup 3rd round tie at Notts County in 1994. We’ve played them twice in the FA Cup since (2008 and 2011).
