Good advert for League 2 teams that was.
Makes our win at the Kassam all the more impressive and unexpected.

Superb performance from
Oxford. It's a shame it was 3-2 as it should have been a bigger margin.

In defence of Appleton the last three clubs he has managed before Oxford have been complete basket cases. That's a cracking result for them today.

We'll get some Championship team, probably Sheffield Wednesday at home or something boring like that.

Carlisle 2-2 Yeovil

Fairly disappointed with the performance today and probably first time this season where we've had near enough a full strength team and yet played poorly.

It doesn't matter who we get drawn against in round 4 whether it's Man UTD or Peterborough away, our team will be up for it in our replay at Yeovil, we're not like we used to be where we'd expect to lose every away match.

Cheers fellas, good to be praised by your contemporaries, and much appreciated.

I'm biased, obviously, but I thought we were the better side for most of the game. The first goal was a good goal, but against the run of play but justice was done when Sercs put the penalty away to level it. Thought we had a purple patch after the break, and 3-1 was not flattering us at all. We really should have killed them off at that stage and when we went to 3-2, the Oxford of old would have crumbled, and Swansea did push us back a bit, but ewe finished reasonably comfortably.

It was interesting to play against a side that came out to try and play, and I was half expecting us to be second best, but it suited our style of play and we matched them all across the park. No disrespect, but I really do not want Carlisle or Yeovil in the next round (you probably don't want us either) and I think Carlisle would give us a tougher game than Swansea.

Just to finish, Roofe. No more needs to be said!

The Swansea goal was lovely, the first that is. I don't think there is a better player in this divison than Roofe. Cox maybe but he's injured all season.

You can just see the Carlisle fans groaning - of all the replays to get that would not be the one you'd want, especially on top of the existing shit with their stadium.

Mind you the Villa fans are yammering about a boycott of our replay too so I should hold my horses before laughing and thinking we're going to be quids in.

I think the worst draw for us would be a competent Champ team, one with no delusions of promotion but no threat of relegation, one for whom the cup is a big deal and whose technically superior players will just skip past ours without whining when they get tackled a bit. And it won't be a glamour game for either side so a low gate, and no desperately needed transfer cash.

'Basically any Premier League team is acceptable, it's when you're getting a draw like Burnley at home that it really sucks ass

Burnley at home wouldn't be a terrible draw for Carlisle. You haven't played them for years and they'd bring a lot of fans to Brunton Park (assuming that it's ready).

I wonder what the all time record is for miles travelled by a League team in a season (in domestic competitions)? Cos we must be about to smash that this season.

Not only are we in a southern-dominated division, but home games in Lancashire, and away cup-ties at QPR, Liverpool, Port Vale, Plymouth, Welling and now Yeovil too! We could yet make the play-offs and probably get someone like Portsmouth. Could get a long trip in the 4th round of the FA cup too if we get that far.

So that means we are having to re-arrange our home match v Northampton (4th round day).

It's a real pain all this winning malarkey

More chance of me getting to the game though! Well done Oxford, top win

That 84th minute equaliser really felt like a winner today, I know who the happier fans (and team) are.
It wasn't the best game on what was a terrible pitch, but I thought we played some decent football in patches and had more of the possession. We just lack enough to carve out proper chances, although it was good to see two strikers score. Very annoying to concede poor goals from set pieces and DW has already said he will be focussing on that. Also the late late goal was karma for the horrendous timewasting by Carlisle, in particular their keeper, throughout the match.

The most pleasing thing today was the passion and never say die spirit which has been missing previously.
Of the 8 goals scored under Darren Way, 5 have been in the last 10 minutes.
In 25 games under Paul Sturrock we didn't score a single goal in the last 10 minutes.
That stat really says a lot about our mentality IMHO.

We still seem to be recovering from our extended break, should be fully ready for the next game I would hope as today was probably the last game that I'll accept that as an excuse (not that Curle used it as an excuse). Beat Barnet and we're right back in it.

Well as for League Two clubs I'd say it's went reasonably well in the 3rd round especially for Oxford beating a Premier League club and there's more L2 clubs left in the draw of the competition than L1 clubs with 1 non-league club left too.

Maybe an indication that it's a stronger League 2 than League 1? Or at least a stronger League 2 than many people thought it was going to be.

I think it proves that there is not much of a gap between the 2 leagues especially the bottom half of L1 which is always full of shite so I reckon the top half of L2 is better than that lot of teams and yes L2 this season is much stronger than it was last season by some distance. I'd say Burton and Bury were the only good teams that were up there last year whereas this year you've really got a load of good teams in the top 10, apart from Wycombe who are just up there again by sheer luck and dirty play.

No I can't let it go and believe me I'm not the only one who thinks this of Wycombe, you're probably the most hated team in the league.

It proves fuck all. It's one year in a cup competition. League 2 teams could have had easier draws on average. There could have been a record number of L1 v L1 games. It could be blind luck. Anyone trying to prove anything on the back of it is fighting a losing battle.

Talksport had a big debate saying that the top four in League 2 could easily cut it in League 1, judging on our cup performances against higher level teams. I think a number of sides could go up and be comfortably mid table.

There's a very small gap between the bottom of League 1 and the top of League 2, teams going up to League 1 tend to do well because the momentum propels them higher than the consistent relegation fodder like Crewe and Colchester. I'd say any team who goes up this season will be pretty comfortable next season.

We were like that in our last two seasons of L1 before getting relegated, it is a dire situation to be in which is why I actually prefer us to be doing well in the league below and near the top rather than doing consistently crap in the league above with our heads down.
