They were in the same Division as Cleethorpes Town the other season, used to be called Shaw Lane Aquaforce then but had to drop the Aquaforce as the FA ban sponsors name within club names above a certain level. They're based in Barnsley. They were only formed in 2012 so have had quite a rise since then.
Wealthyish owner I think.
We should have played them in the first round of the trophy last season but they got chucked out for fielding an ineligible player.

So no appetite from the broadcasters for the top scorers in the country v recent winners in front of maybe 10,000 fans. Although the game has been chosen for overseas broadcast.

Yet they show Chorley, who currently don't have a goalkeeper eligible for the game v Fleetwood.

Hyde and Shaw Lane frankly have almost zero chance against Franchise and Mansfield too.

It's almost like the whole appeal of the early rounds of the cup is the possibility of a non-league side beating league opposition, I'm pretty sure that's not new this year.

We all know Luton are bigger than Barcelona but that's not really the point of it at this stage.

Quite right its the romance of the cup that will attract the armchair fans but I'm not sure your average viewer would be interested in watching Hyde v MK Dons in what will resemble a kick about in a local field with two men and a dog watching it. There are other more attractive fixtutes that would fit the bill, classic non league outfit v league club with traditon and history, but we all know how much the footballing authorities love the plasticness that is MK Dons. Personally I'm happy to have our match at 3pm on a Saturday in what will be a classic cup tie I hope.
Not quite sure the BBC think about the romance of the cup when Man Utd enter the compeition. It doesn't matter who they play their tie will always be televised.

It's a shame we're at home that day otherwise it may have been played at Oakwell.
That’s not allowed nowadays, ties have to be played at the home team’s ground.

Didn't know that. They played the last round against Barrow at Athersley Recreations ground though.

Edit: Turns out they ground share with Athersley now.

In recent weeks we've played Grimsby, who, like us, don't score and drew 0-0.

We've also played Cambridge under similar circumstances. 0-0.

Crawley the same. 0-0.

Now onto Wimbledon in the FA Cup, who have scored 9 in the league this season...

We face a rejuvenated Oldham who've been in good form since Wellens took over, though they did lose on Saturday.

I can see us being outclassed this weekend, much like last season when we faced Rochdale in the 2nd round. It would be nice to go on a little cup run as our league season isn't going to bring any excitement.

Be nice to have a break from league football and with any luck we won't bring our league form into this.

This is the worse take that I have ever seen on this forum.

Anyway, we're at home to Bristol Rovers. Be an interesting test if we go full strength, particularly with our absurdly good 2017 home record.

We are favourites against Sutton but my god it's a potential banana skin. "Giant killing" would be selling us too high but definitely a chance of an upset.

We have been consistent first round losers since, I think, 2012 - Macclesfield x 2, Cheltenham and Eastleigh have dumped us out recently. Dreadful. And we used to be a decent cup side.

Away to Dartford this Sunday - broadcast live for the millions of overseas viewers creaming their jeans at the prospect. They are top of the 6th tier so should give us a game, but honestly, if we don’t win this I’ll drink me own bath water.

Sadly, millions will watch Utd regardless if who they're playing. It's the one game on 3rd round weekend that I will actively boycott (unless they're playing Cheltenham, in which case I'll be at the game).

For most of their games, you could make some form of argument for why they were picked, until they drew Sheffield Utd at home a couple of years ago. That's when it began to take the piss in my eyes.

As for ourselves, we're at home to Maidstone - a team doing well in the Conference. Our record against Conference teams in the last few years is shocking, having lost to a Conference team in 3 of our last 4 cup defeats. The 4th was when we were in the Conference and we lost to Hartlepool.

It's good that someone else gets Oldham as opposed to us.

Please beat them, so if we get through to the 2nd round it doesn't happen

Agreed, they were home to Reading last season - and it was a ridiculous decision - if they were away, then yes, I understand but not at home.

It removes the romantics of the 3rd round when dull games like that are on all the time.

A very physical side who play the game right on the edge, one of the few sides who got the better of us last season., defo banana skin.

We've got a tough game away at Bradford, can only see one result and judging by the fact we've only sold about 200 tickets so can all the other fans!! Rather win at Swindon the week after but knowing we will do the opposite.

I hope we don't underestimate Shaw Lane and put out the 'second' team. Defo 'banana skin' here. There's only one reason it's on the telly!

I could potentially see why he would had we a game on Tuesday - and given that we rested pretty much everyone Tuesday i'd be surprised. Having played Team Bath and Harrogate Railway on TV (4-2 and 3-2) there's clearly a chance of it happening - added to sides like Notts County losing recently to the likes of Salford - it's entirely possible.

A decent tie in the 3rd round with the resultant prize money added to the TV money we've already got would no doubt be spent in January - so it's within his interests to get us through.

No way will Evans play a second team. He's always going on about how an FA Cup run is important.

Should be a fun game versus Pompey. Good atmosphere and game expected. They were a step above of us last season, beating us well in both games. Be good to see if we have moved forward.

No chance he'd play a weaker team. Although not completely off the pace, he will be fully aware that he isn't probably where he should position wise. IMO Stags should be top 5 at least. Going out in the 1st round might set far too many fans on his back for your owner not to listen.

I can see Mansfield getting to the third round and beating a Premiership team.

They were like Mortal Kombat at our place a fortnight back but deservedly got a 94th minute leveler which they celebrated like they'd won the World Cup. Not the greatest side but plenty of fight and bottle and you can see why they're a top half Conference side. They'll be tough for anyone in L2. They did have about 5 players who had massive beer bellies.

Posting on here as I fancy us to beat Morecambe away. We do have an excellent record against them, currently on a great run and know how to dog out results.

Hope the Stags enjoy Athersley. Bit of a rough area of the town. I moved to Barnsley about 20 years back. Was playing pool for my local in an Athersley boozer (The Acorn), a delightful young lady was sitting in full view of all providing handmade pleasure to her fella. Bit of a shock for a quiet Lincolnshire lad!
I'm told, by lads at work, that Shaw Lane FC are not particularly popular with many locals, on account of their moneyman being a Wendies supporter.

We've located a Wetherspoons close to the station.

Wetherspoons is a bit like the Ritz in Barnsley

I've done something pretty stupid and bought tickets for me and the boys for tomorrow. We are bottom of the league, not playing badly but can't score (and when we do we then allow the oppo to even it up) and Grimsby last year were a bogey team for us.

1-1

Still I've got seats in one of the louder parts, so even if we don't score my boys will learn some new chants and words they can tell their mother all about. And I'll be in the doghouse...again.
