So far the best strikers I've used this year are Diego Costa and Rebic, CL Jonas isn't far behind
IF Mandzukic is the most expensive ST I've used but couldn't get on with him at all
Other really good cheap players I've used
Kessie, Balde, Gelson Martin's, Ndidi, Gotze, Kepa, Rudiger, Bakambu and Lavezzi
Couldn't stand Diego Costa. Felt far too clunky for me. Don't get me wrong, he had 3 goals in 3 games, but I was having to change my game to get him to fit. Tried Rodrigo, but he was the polar opposite, super smooth, but 0 strength so he was bullied around completely and couldn't finish so well. Then tried Lacazette who was a happy medium between the two, but I got on with Benzema better who is the same style player, so Benzema is back in my team.
Not messed around with my other squad, unless I pack IF Immobile untradeable later, Icardi isn't going anywhere for a long time. Much better than Higuain and was half price when I got him.
Belotti and Volland are the best cheap strikers I've used, pretty sure Belotti could still do a job for me. Brandt was one of my super subs recently, he's great, little heavy but his runs make up for it. Vogt and Laporte as defenders are super super solid. Toulisson was great for me also.
However by far the best cheap player I've used is Criscito, he's that solid I can't justify upgrading to Alex Sandro. Slightly more expensive is Allan, but I think only Matuidi or Nainggolan are upgrades on him. Rabiot is also class.
Also had a crack at the squad building challenges and on the whole was left pretty disappointed with this game mode, ended up giving up too many decent players for too little reward though one positive was I unpacked a TOTW Ross Barkley who fits nicely straight into my EPL team and scored with him on his debut.
That's why you don't give up decent players! Min bids and lowest rated possible ones. Futbin is your friend.
For this WL I'll be rolling with
Icardi
Perisic - Gomez - CL Di Maria
Allan - Rabiot
Criscito - Miranda - Silva - IF Lala
Ederson
Benzema
Lemar - IF Ben Yedder - Aspas
Tolisso - Saul
Alaba - Hummels - Nacho - CL Carvajal
Neuer
Super subs: Thauvin and O.Dembele.Perisic - Gomez - CL Di Maria
Allan - Rabiot
Criscito - Miranda - Silva - IF Lala
Ederson
Benzema
Lemar - IF Ben Yedder - Aspas
Tolisso - Saul
Alaba - Hummels - Nacho - CL Carvajal
Neuer
Tried Dembele instead of Aspas who is by far the weakest of my front four in that team (and probably any of my front eight), but his stamina killed him.
To give an idea of what works for me, ,y tactics are the same for both:
Full backs - stay back (can change via dpad in game to attacking full backs if need)
DMs - cover centre, cut passing lanes and Allan/Saul stay back to compliment M/H work rates
Wingers - Get in behind
CAM - Stay forward
ST - Get in behind.
Width defensively: 4
Depth: 4
Balanced
Width offensively - 6
Players in box - 6
In box for free kicks and corners - 1 (I worry about counters)
Balanced (I play a possession game, but possession tactic stifles me)
My ultra defensive is a 4-2-3-1 wide with everyone staying back apart from wingers and cf, long ball instruction, pure counter basically. Rarely use, only if someone is kamakaze attacking me.
Defensive is a 4-2-3-1 narrow with a quick build up that I switch to if I can't get out my half well enough, it's a lot more attacking than my default.
Attacking is a 4-3-3 (4) which is basically everyone up.
Ultra attacking I need to settle on, was a 4-2-4 but it was too rushed when playing. Don't really think I need a fifth tactic tbh.
