Haha you didn't read mine then

I did, but I've never managed in those leagues so cannot compare!

Oh I'm not successful... A mentally handicapped corn flake could have done better then me & won the Conference South with the sort of wages I was spending!

Haha, bit harsh to talk about smat like that! :D

Don't get it either. I'm shit at LLM.

Also, Zach Clough is fucking amazing.

Yeh but that's because you change teams unbelievably often. My advice is to choose a club and stick it out, instead of playing 4/5 games then binning it off. :)

The problem is though I want to get promoted immediately with a non-league team. Its not a race but I don't want to spend 5 years in every division otherwise the save might not even last until FM 16. Just taking a big guess there. That's why I started with Bolton. No need to rush with them. Second season so far. Only complaint I have is the finances. Can't renew anyone's contract.

You want the game to be easy. But if it was easy, and you could get promoted straight away, you're not playing Football Manager. You're playing... fuckin'... Premier Manager '97. And there's no honour in that.

Toil and agonise in the Vanarama North like the rest of us. Or at least don't keep clogging up our wonderful thread with your "I'm at Boston Unit- oh no I'm not anymore" shit.

We expect CERTAIN STANDARDS in here you know.

If I fail at Bolton again, I'll go back to the conference like you said. You're right. That's why I haven't posted in here much the last few days.

Basically what Smat said. The fun part is the toil and struggle - and that makes the success even more rewarding and enjoyable.

Imagine how boring this place would be if all of us were getting promoted/winning a quadruple every bloody season

Fair enough mate. Back to the conference it is.

I've certainly found this one more difficult in non-league.

You could usually get out of the Conference in a season quite comfortably and you'd not really be challenged until getting into the Championship.

I don't understand the tactical part here. I feel I have to constantly change the tactics here because you find success after 4 games then it stops working. It has been the same every.fucking.time with Chorley, Hampton and Richmond, Colwyn Bay. I play route one football, with a simple formation and do some class pre-season stuff. Just doesn't work out for me.

Be more disciplined doesn't really work out for me. It helps me avoid red cards but then I don't score.

Anyways, I'm considering starting at Chorley again. If not, then Gloucester. Most likely a team in the north. In the south I'm considering Bath. Also does anyone have a custom English database? For some reason the database glitched and now Salisbury is alive and AFC Hornchurch are in the north rather than the Ryman Premier League.

You can't change every 4 games, though, because it takes time of the team to get used to it. Just got to stick with it and make minor tweaks. Otherwise they're having to learn new systems all the time. I'm in November on my game and the squad have only just become 'fluid' in my formation. Initially, or if you make lots of personnel changes, it can take 2 or 3 months.

I tried route one with a target man at the beginning of my NFU game but reverted to a more possession based one quite early on and it's served me better.

You will not find one single tactic that wins you every single match? The AI eventually finds a way of stopping it, so you do have to mix tactics up, but not every handful of games.

Won the cup as well, also against Hibs to complete the treble. Rejected job offers from Swansea and Middlesbrough just days later as I want the chance to at least play some games in the Champions League Qualifiers with Aberdeen before I move on (which I will) next season. Board still haven't upped my wage budget mind, or my transfer budget so I'm still living off pittance.

If I'm correct, there is nothing in the game that says the teams can figure out your tactics. I'll still listen to you though, but minor tweaks as Luke_Imp said rather than completely changing system.

I normally don't do this but I'll have 2 tactics here. 4-3-3 and 4-4-2 most likely.

No, but it does. Otherwise people would just get one tactic set and win quadruples every season...

Someone told me that official SI people says teams can't figure out your tactics. Most likely it has to do with poor form. Anyways lets not have a stupid argument.

I think in the last few FMs they (SI) have said that they have made AI teams more aware of your tactics and how to deal with them, means that you can't just use the same formation forever.

FM is not a game for 'quick success' either, I think on every single game, with every single team i've played as my first season at that club has been the worst. It takes me a good season to find the tactic that works, get in the right players and really turn it into my team. It doesn't happen overnight. Sometimes i'll get promoted in that first season, but it won't be pretty.

Also agree that the more you toil and struggle the better the success will be. My second ever FM career had to be my favourite purely for this reason. Started at Crawley, sacked mid-season for being 14th, joined Tranmere 24th who were 20 points adrift and got them in with a chance of staying up (got relegated), joined Bury in the Summer and left the following Summer (out of my choice) as I knew I couldn't keep them up in League Two for long (think I finished 18th and all my good players were leaving). Went up to Brechin in Scotland and got 3 straight promotions and a 10th placed finish in the SPL. Best career i've ever had.

I've noticed that as well. First season is usually hard because of lack of resources. You'll probably have to ask for a bigger wage budget (asking for a bigger transfer budget never works) or try and sell a few players.

Preparation for my first season in the Conference Premier begins & I've decided to implement a busy pre season schedule as I look to get the best possible Dover team to reach our media predicted finish of 11th. The board gave me the option to go for mid table with a £10.3K per week wage budget but for £11.5K per week (up about £2.5K from last season's budget) I think I can go top half. I think I need the money with my excessive wage spends of last season still looming over the club leaving me with not a great deal of play for rebuilding.

The core of last season remains a few new signings have already been arranged but for the most part I want to let my youngsters improve with more first team football this time round. There are a few key areas that need looking in to before the big Conference Premier kick off at Braintree Town due to a few players leaving without contract renewals because of either not being cut out for life at this level of football or greedy gits who wanted massive wage hikes. One major blow for the new season is my star goalkeeper (& gk coach) Maik Taylor does not want a new contract, neither does his promising understudy Mitch Walker... so I've got to seriously look at this area.

Well I've started my non league again and gone with Barnet, pre season was awful and conceded loads of goals. Playing a 4-4-2 structured and no idea why so many we're let in.

First game of season Chester away, 2-1 up and 89th min they score

Also, when you start the game, a big chunk of the half decent players are already at Clubs. The next summer you can start signing players from other teams and picking up decent cast-offs.

Sacked from Hemel. Cut me some slack though please. I started with Lowestoft, and things are going pretty well. We had an average start and now we are fighting for promotion. Sadly, Bradford Park Avenue is going to win the title as they are beginning to get away from second place, which is myself. I got Ryan Sweeney from AFC Wimbledon for 1K and Jesse Waller-Lassen on a free. Both good players for the Conference North.

Finished my first season. Disappointed to drop out of playoff spots and finish 7th. North Ferriby and Bradford Park Avenue were promoted. Gutted, but I just gotta keep going at it and get promoted next season!

Yeah. One aspect of the game I'm still trying to get a hang of is slowing the game down. I used to be all about going as quick as possible. Now, I try to slow the game down but I still have issues.

I usually don't rush through it if an important game is coming up though mind you.

Telford have been relegated meaning they'll probably piss the league :(

Anyways I have began my season. Won my first game 4-1 against Worcester. Great win, with a hattrick by Crow. My big signing this season was Hayford from Tottenham Hotspur for 14K. I'll go through all my transfers later but a few other ones, Kem Izzet, Remy Clerima, and Samir Bihmoutine. All on free's except the Bihmoutine transfer which cost me more than 10K.
