Was it the same young lads who turned up at Hillsborough a few years since did a lot of mouthing, got brave and attacked 3 stewards in the stand, then disappeared from sight outside the ground?
Right little bunch of chavvy wankers if it was.

Probably not, no.

Violence was just part of the fan experience back in the 1970s. Most violence at Bramall Lane happened when, Man Utd, Leeds, West Ham, Newcastle came. Grounds weren't segregated and fans just used to pile into all sides of the ground, which meant that Man Utd fans would just pack the home end en masse, same with Leeds 1972 and 1974.
I got into bother at Elland Road, Ayresome Park, Hillsborough. I was also threatened with a bottle one night match v Liverpool outside our ground after the match.
Biggest kicking I ever got was M'boro away around 1970, we took their end early they came piling in about five minutes to kick off. Didn't shift us though. In the mid 1980s hooliganism was just destroying football. Gates we're down eg Sheff Utd v Leeds, 10,000 crowd

That fan experience made football what it was. I can sympathise with young families wanting to feel safe at the football, but the gobby young lads nowadays who hide behind the police and their phones wouldn't have lasted long back in the old days.

It'll never be the same again, but going up to some northern outpost on a Saturday with 60 odd fantastic lads and coming back to work on a Monday morning with a black eye was what the culture was all about

Millwall turned up in BS3 last night and by all accounts were sent packing. They came outside the three lions and got chased down Bedminster into a family pub called The Lockwell(?) (never been in it) and the pub got smashed to bits as I’m sure you can imagine.

Whether people like it or not, footy violence was part of football, and still is to a degree. I hate the sterile atmosphere at football nowadays, but I weren’t old enough to experience the 70s/80s. Love listening to the stories though. My uncle got stabbed at Chelsea in the 80s, and he’s told me tales of him having to run for his life at Elland Road, and Maine Road just to name a few. Going to Millwall when it was Millwall. Rated Boro as one of the toughest places to go. My grandad always said Arsenal were the club who used to cause the most trouble at villa, and apparantly were very tasty back in the day. Football back then should be saved in a bottle and never thrown away.

Some lads from Holland involved by all accounts.

Can’t speak for Millwall, but City fans have formed an unofficial affiliation with Willem II from the Erdiverse or however it’s spelt. Our fans go over there for games and weekends, and their fans do the same for us and were over because of a charity fundraiser between City and Willem and were all drinking in The Lions when Millwall tried their luck

Yeah I spent some time in Amsterdam recently and got talking to some locals. I was very surprised to learn the passion that the Dutch lads have for some of the more non-descript English clubs.

We've got an 'alliance' with a couple. PEC Zwolle being one.

Funny as fuck. They're mad as fuck the Dutch.

I think the scene over in Holland is still very much alive. I think Spurs were the first club exporting the so called English disease abroad when they played Feyenoord in the early 70s.

Ajax tried it on against England in March and got a battering by all accounts.

I’d like to go over for a weekend and do a Willem game, they’re good as gold with our fans and even the club treat our fans well. When Willem come over City don’t wanna know and stick them up out of the way.

Ajax have one of the best mobs around at the moment. Been a real resurgence over there after years of doing nothing. A new generation have come through and got their shit together.

Not much they can do against hundreds of pissed up English goons, all cramped together down narrow canal streets, flinging glass bottles, pint pots and bar furniture.

An Ajax fan showed me a video of their lads before a game earlier this season outside the Amsterdam Arena. Quite impressive tbh.

I'll try and find it...

Some of their lads come over to ours a couple of games a season. I met a few of them in the 80's, sound lads

I notice England have drawn the Dutch in the Nations League semi. It’s gonna kick off big time over there in Portugal I reckon.

Good luck finding cheap flights now, you need to be on the ball with england away. I'll be doing kosovo when I appeal my ban after 2/3rds in October.

It’s just over £100, no problem with that whatsoever. I’ll be doing Kosovo as well I expect, the one that stood out in the euro groups.

Very interesting part of the world is Kosovo. Not been there, but been in that part of the world, and it’s well worth going to.

That qualifying group is as good as it gets for decent trips.

Not done England away for quite a few years now but tempted to do a couple of those.
