16 unbeaten and still only 4th.

Need to start converting those draws into wins consistently.

True dat. Same points as us and we’ve lost 3. Unbeaten means fuck all with 3 points for a win.

Two players on ID and the game is called off? Ridiculous.

Potential banana skin against Oldham. Dieng is suspended and the midfield needs to perform better than Saturday.

Play to our strengths and we should extend the unbeaten run.

Well, you’re certainly a long streak of something.
Now now, jealousy isn't an attractive trait.

Yep, we've drawn far too many games. And also lost against Wycombe and Chelsea on pens, the idea we are 16 unbeaten is laughable. But hey-ho.

Always seems to be late goals involved in this fixture. Given how frequent we throw leads away this season, it’s inevitable it’ll happen again this weekend.

Vale are much stronger than I thought they would be, so I expect a tough afternoon.

GK: Richard O’Donnell

RB: Oscar Threlkeld
CB: Yann Songo’o
CB: Paudie O’Connor
CB: Niall Canavan
LB: Matty Foulds

CM: Elliott Watt
CM: Levi Sutton

CAM: Alex Gilliead

ST: Andy Cook
ST: Theo Robinson/Lee Angol

subs: Callum Cooke, Charles Vernam, Caolan Lavery, Sam Hornby, Gareth Evans, Reece Staunton, Fiacre Kelleher

Theo will be up for this one. Angol is fit again, and Vernam played well at the weekend by all accounts, so it’s hard to predict who plays, but it’ll definitely be 5 at the back.

I’ll be happy with a draw, but we’re more than capable of turning Vale over - 600 City - shite, early KO on SKY.

Up the shagging chickens!

We've got Liverpool Kids before the weekend but my biggest worry at the moment is things are just going too well and we look too good...

Its just so un Vale like that we expect to fall flat on our face sooner or later!

This is easily the best Vale side we've had at this level and looks even better than the promotion side in 2012/13, the quality of football, scoring goals and wins we've had over the past 25-26 games is ridiculous and we are not used to it!

I think there was a belief that the squad we'd assembled was good and going slightly under the radar.

Last years first round FA Cup shock to Kings Lynn started a decline so hopefully this year's devastating performance against Accrington goes the other way and we get stronger but time will tell.

My worry is on TV, Vale absolutely flying, scoring for fun... its set up for a shitter isn't it...

Bradford are no mugs so will have to be at our best to win it, hopefully we can keep doing what we've been doing and close in on top spot... form says we should, especially at home but worry its all going "too well" at the moment.

I'd probably go with

Covolan

Smith
Cass
Jones

Worrall
Gibbons

Taylor
Pett
Conlon

Wilson
Politic

A bit worried about this one.

Notwithstanding the league positions it would seem from reports that Oldham put up a pretty impressive performance at Portman Road (and, arguably, should have won).

While we have the millstone of the "unbeaten record" to drag around our necks (the fixture equivalent of the Manager of the Month curse).

In a perfect world The Cobblers and the Vale* will both lose and, without the Vegans having a game, we could be second, in touching distance of the pinnacle!

But City being City we seem to have a season after season tradition of screwing up the theoretically "winnable games". So 0-2 for this Saturday...and with Carlisle up next at home the Cumbrians must be licking their lips for the next episode of their great escape act.

*NB: With next week's replay in mind I will rephrase that to "plucky 8 man Bradford scalp the soaraway Vale as their depleted team, after three straight red cards, manage to hold off waves of Port Vale attacks in the 20 minutes added time!

Isn't Andy Cook injured, Firthy?

I hadn’t realised mate, hamstring injury seemingly?

Can see Vernam and Theo starting upfront, then.

Good news for us. Our defenders are quite short and Cook is a pretty decent target man. We know Theo is useless in the battle but he'll inevitably score.

Looks like we'll match up formation wise with perhaps our wing backs showing a little more attacking intent. You can never tell with Clarke.

It feels like our recruitment has been much smarter this year. A lot of the teams with bigger budgets tend to go for 'names' with no real idea of how they fit into the team. We've gone for some lesser known players (barring perhaps Wilson) who are ambitious and work incredibly hard and have the right attitude. It's paying off at the moment.

Like others have said, we've been on a fantastic run, live on sky, chance to go top....it's all set up for a crushing defeat isn't it?

Don't imagine many teams have a bigger budget this season based on what was said by the likes of Brown on his way out...

I think we've balanced the squad well and added quality in the right area's, generally well proven players at this level such as Pett, Martin and Benning and for the first time actually seem to have that little extra quality in players like Politic and Wilson to go with the players like Gibbons (saw a crazy stat we'd won all but 1 game with him this season) Worrall and Conlon who's on another level.

It kind of feels its all come together and just the right time with the squad, management, owners and players here before that have hit peak form.

Still burnt from last season but hard not to get excited with how we are looking.

Kind Regards

Talking about unbeaten and winning streaks.

I wonder which clubs is on the longest winning streak in all competitions and without conceding a goal.

I will start with Mansfield on 2

anybody beat that?

Bookmakers have Carlisle as favourites to beat Barrow on Saturday.
I can only assume the bookies are blinded by the size of the two clubs because I can’t for the life of me see how we could possibly be favourites in this game. we are shite and don’t look capable of even scoring at this level let alone winning.

Bet365 are offering 11/5 on the Barrow win. Absolute madness. Take advantage of this now. I certainly am.

Have faith Grumpy, we are playing well, we have a decent squad this year, we are picking up points in some games we definitely would have lost in the past, I reckon a 3-1 win for this one, onwards and upwards

We did'nt relegate you!! you relegated yourselves by being a bigger pile of dog shite than we were.
The season Tranmere went down wasn't because of Hartlepool having a good late run. It was because we got 9 points from 17 games to go with the 30 we got from the previous 29. You get relegated because you are crap.

Or demoted due to a pandemic to placate any possible disgruntled replies from any of the other TRFC posters.

Absolutely agree but that day isn't forgotten, as well as the gloating from your fans.
