We ground out a win against Tranmere. It wasn't great but it was good enough. I thought Tranmere played ok . They just lacked a cutting edge.

wasn’t as high on George Abbott as others to begin with but he really is starting to look very special. Slightly nervous he’s played his way into Spurs doing something rash and recalling him to loan him out higher up

He played an EFL Trophy game for Spurs before joining, which counts towards the two clubs thing so he can’t be loaned anywhere else. :)

As this was the first home game of 2025, like most clubs these days, Grimsby had a memorium for former fans and players who had passed away during 2024. A piper led the tribute from the centre circle as photos and names of those no longer with us appeared on the scoreboard. The crowd stood quietly and applauded as a show of respect.

Unfortunately virtually the entire away end sang abusive songs throughout. It wasn’t a handful of kids, it was clearly the vast majority. What an awful reflection on Chesterfield FC and the town in general. Absolutely vile.

I will comment separately on the game
What the fuck are you talking about. The tannoy at your ground is diabolical and we didn’t hear a single thing in the away end about it being a tribute or whatever.

How thick do you have to be to think an entire away end would do that on purpose?

What? Nobody noticed the sole piper stood in the centre circle, or that the 3 home stands stood in unison to applaud? Or the names on the scoreboard? This went on for several minutes, unfortunately there were a lot who passed away last year, but nobody in the away end noticed??

Absolutely vile behaviour and making an excuse for it makes it worse

Anyway, thought today was a cracking game actually between two good sides giving it 100%. Pitch wasn’t great which obviously hindered both sides fluency at times as were both footballing sides (as proven in the two games at our place earlier this season), but I thought it made for a proper league 2 battle which is always a good watch.

Thought we were far and away the better side in the first half after Grimsby got there goal, and tbh we should have definitely scored more than just the one which came from a great Naylor header on a corner. Colclough & Horton (Our MOTM imo) down our left in particular I thought caused Grimsby some serious issues first half.

Second half Grimsby came into it more and definitely edged it in terms of chances. Draw I felt was a fair result on reflection of the overall game.

Was very happy to see the return of Madden & Fleck who have been out for some time now. Berry didn’t look fit to me when he came on, there was a point just after he’d come on when a ball was played just infront of him and he seemed like he was holding back from a full sprint to try and keep the ball in because he was worried about his hamstring. Jacobs, Metcalfe, Daley-Campbell all back training Monday, and apparently were very close to 2 more new signings so things starting to look much more positive here. Onto Vale (H).

I saw the guy playing the bagpipes in the middle but didn't have a clue what it was for. For all I know this could be a regular thing at Blundell Park. Couldn't see a screen from where I was sat (as it's facing the home fans) and couldn't hear fuck all in the stand. I'm assuming this was advertised in the programme? I didn't buy one but then again who does these days.

Don't clubs traditionally do this sort of thing at the end of the season anyway?

Fuck me you are thick aren’t you. Please tell me how we should just know that there is some remembrance going on for Grimsby fans that have passed away, from just seeing a sole piper?
He could have been there for any number of reasons?

Let’s also not forget that your scoreboard is facing away from the away end, so our fans aren’t exactly going to be able to see what’s going on on there either are we. And as I said, we couldn’t hear a thing over the tannoy in the away end. Stop being a prick about it

Now that is good news. I wish I was one of those people who have their phone out permanently at gigs and football matches because I was right behind THAT goal. Oh my word, I’ve never seen anything so good that close up.

We were the bollocks, though Accy were shite, as teams often are after a big cup game. Effing cold as well.

Cloudys head has absolutely gone. Strange to see.
Another to add to the dickhead list. Probably one of them scruffs that had bought tickets next to the away end today just to stare & point at our fans rather than take any interest in the game. Weird bunch them lot were

Never be that person.

I wish I was right behind that. It looked an absolute beauty, you need great technique to pull that off.

Why MK continued to faff around with the ball at the back whilst being 3-1 down then get caught to make it 4-1 and game over I don't know.
Yet to be convinced this style will ever work at this level decent win again though today.
What a shift 37 year old Uncle Albert put in today as well.
What a fantastic signing. Don't know how many minutes he puts in these days but when you played us, he had more influence in 10 minutes than others did in 90.

First visit to Vale Park - cracking ground.
Good day out apart from result. Another good performance first half just like Walsall and Wimbledon but again overwhelmed in second half. As others have said the Vale subs were the difference, big fellla in the middle was v good and Shockley is always a handful. Bout time the fecker retired. Full backs second half were strong too.

The lad in the middle was Rekeem Harper who came on for Lowe. One of his better showings for us since signing.

First half you played some really nice stuff and to be honest if the shot from your lad that struck the post and hit the back of our keepers head before going behind for a corner had gone the other side of the post we're likely having a different conversation about the result. Also that chance early second half for you could easily have been 3-1 there. I'll be honest once Hudlin came on I felt a little more secure, just one of those that never convinces me.

Don't know what the feck we were doing after we scored, it was like someone flicked a switch and we went right into our shell. No doubt there was more urgency from you but there was more to it than that. It certainly wasn't an instruction from our bench, Artell more or less said he didn't know what the feck we were doing as well, which, in his speak, was described as a mentality issue...

Second half was one of our better ones at home - not hard that.

It's a stupid way to play in this league in my opinion. Get it forward quickly and with purpose (which doesn't mean long ball). Mk seem to just be buying a collection of players with no idea how to employ them.

Could understand a few of you guys missing one of the things I listed, but all 3, and the tannoy, and the programme notes, and the website ( accept very few would look at this)

Come on!

Then not one of the Chesterfield fans, on any form of social media, have actually said ‘sorry, we didn’t know’. They’ve just continued the abuse as above

Good win in the end today. The first half was the wrong team, the game bypassed Lowe and we struggled to contain their powerful forward. We still had chances though.

Second half they really struggled. Stockley bullied their centre halves and the wing backs were so high up that they played like wingers. Probably should have scored more.

Hudlin is an absolute joke isn't he? He's not a footballer...can't control, got no awareness, no ability. He's literally been picked up because he's big.

What concerns me is that Moore has had to make these half time subs quite a lot. We really need to start on the front foot and take these very average teams to task.

Just to show that I'm not a bad loser, can I give a special mention to the referee today. Fuck me he was as bad as it comes. I think he gave us about 5 free kicks all day but if a Newport player went down he was desperate to blow the whistle. One of those refs that thinks the game is about them. Dreadful, dreadful performance from him. The assessor will probably say he had a good game.

Decent, competitive game at BP today which ebbed and flowed.
Grimsby started the better. It looked like they were trying to punish the high line that Chesterfield were keeping.
Nevertheless the visitors had a couple of very clear chances with Dobra firing well over from just a few yards out.
Davies finished well to give Grimsby the lead after which Chesterfield took over, mainly dominating down their left. For us Luker just looked like he didn’t fancy doing any defensive work leaving Cass with a least 2 players.
The equaliser was coming but perhaps a little fortunate that the corner that was headed in, perhaps should have been a goal kick?
The rest-of the half was Chesterfields without a doubt and I was very grateful to go in at ht on level terms.
In the second half Grimsby were generally on top but, as normal, didn’t threaten the visiting keeper enough. The clearest opportunity came when Svanthorson found space in the box but the ref inexplicably blew to give us a free kick for offside against a Chesterfield player in our own half! Very bizarre. He definitely had a mare of mares today

Overall I thought we were the more likely winners in the second half, but equally a draw,on reflection, was about right.

Our first home draw of the season and only our second in the league all season

Is it a stupid way to play in League One too?
Depends how good your players are. We played it with Crosby, often had 70%+ possession but lost a lot of the time. It needs really good players to beat the better teams with it. Some of the shite teams become dumbfounded with all the passing but long term the players in league 2 aren't good enough to play it.

I’ve seen several saying just that actually. No way did 1000 of our fans choose to disrespect your memorial. I wasn’t able to go today so can’t comment on specifics but something similar happened at Crewe where we didn’t know anything about it & people kind of slowly realised as it went on. I’m often unaware of things like that at my own ground cos I don’t relentlessly read multiple social media outlets & websites. I’ve also seen multiple pics of the view from away end & you could barely see half pitch from back (where ‘singers’ would have been) so not much chance of seeing a lone piper.

It’s unfortunate it happened and I really hope none of the families were upset by it, but please don’t paint our entire fanbase as abusive, disrespectful dickheads. We’re not. Thanks

He’s my favourite opposition player to watch in the league, just a complete lamp post with no mobility or ability. I can’t begin to imagine what his 9 Championship appearances for Huddersfield looked like.

He was actually the same referee from the reverse fixture who sent two of their lads off which I never like as with the Bristol Rovers games in the promotion season.

They went down easily and he gave it every time, but suppose when over two games he’s sent 3 of their men off we can’t complain too much!

Did ours New Years Day, we always invite the away club (Cheltenham in this case) to add in names and a wreath and be part of it too.
