Yeah, that was about as bad as it gets. The anti-Stannis writing has now reached its peak and some cheesy Danaerys scenes to end the episode. Fuck you D & D.

Has that one scene elevated Stannis above Ramsay as the king of the utter sadistic c***?

To be fair even if we ignore the books it doesn't seem to make much sense. The lovely earlier scenes with Stannis and Shireen where he talks about her condition and how he did everything to save her now only seem to be included to make the sacrifice more shocking, as EG alluded to. Also it was only a couple of episodes ago he dismissed the notion of burning his only heir.

Anyway looking to the finale, I'm guessing we'll get resolutions to the Wall, Winterfell, and kings Landing storylines which should be good.... but I don't have too much expectation for Dorne

It came from GRRM. He told them this happens. Watch the inside the episode.

I don't believe them. No way would it pan out that way in GRRM's universe, I could see Shireen being killed by Mellisandre or the mother, but not with Stannis's assent. All through the TV series they've both enjoyed shitting on his character. Not a chance would he kill his only heir.

A quote from ADWD -

"A sacrifice will prove our faith still burns true, Sire,” Clayton Suggs had told the king. And Godry the Giantslayer said, “The old gods of the north have sent this storm upon us. Only R’hllor can end it. We must give him an unbeliever.”

“Half my army is made up of unbelievers,” Stannis had replied. “I will have no burnings. Pray harder.

Or a more in-depth analysis if you can be arsed - http://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/38znsb/spoilers_allstannis_character_assassination_thread/.

Just like Ramsay and his bunch of merry men riding into the camp unnoticed.

You don't know that though, no-one does. I admit it's unlikely he will do it in the books, but it's still possible he could send a raven, they could march to meet him etc... Only D&D and GRRM knows.

To me it makes sense in the show, and I am really enjoying where this is going for Stannis. Never particulary liked him in the book or show so maybe I'm not as angry as Stannis fans are, but I don't really see where all this "FUCK D&D!!!" is justified. It's a different universe from book to show, enjoy them separately and stop taking them so seriously. The ASOIAF subreddit would be so much better if they all just relaxed a little. It's always seemed to have a aura of entitlement around the place, like they know better then D&D and that the books are infallible. It just grates on me.

I don't think that was the case until this series, though. More people have changed their stance on D&D this year, as they're no longer relying on the great script GRRM had already provided them and are now in the area of writing really bad fanfiction.

It just annoys me how the show parades Dany as the Messiah and there aren't many likeable alternatives, particularly now that they've butchered Stannis.

Anyway, there's more important things in life to worry about - so I'll end it there.

I don't get this whole 'destroying Stannis as a character' argument. His main trait is that he's a man who'll put what he considers to be his duty above all else. He's already killed his own brother and been perfectly willing to murder an innocent child. So when in a seemingly hopeless situation, he believes, with Melisandre whispering in his ear don't forget, that he has to make this sacrifice in order to fulfil his duty of reaching the Iron Throne, no it isn't out of keeping with his character for him to do so.

Obviously it's monstrous, and a big jump given how much he loves his daughter, as can be seen by how visibly haunted he was afterwards (top acting by Steven Dillane, btw). But it's not completely out of line with what's gone before. It's not like they've gone and got Davos doing it. And by the sounds of it, something similar will be happening in the books.

I knew she was a goner since his touching speech to her a few episodes ago but I didn't want to believe it.

Not referring specifically to the above but there's been too many plot holes/oversights this season for me to enjoy it as much as I should have. Think it's got to be the worst season so far for me.

Yeah, the fire was shit... the choreography for the actual fighting was shit... Jorah's rolling stab for fucks sake, my jaw swung off and rolled along the living room floor in a fit of cringe when I saw that. With all that taken into account it was still one of the most emotionally draining episodes of TV I've ever watched.

What a bunch of moaning c***.

Did you know that if you pause it at the right time, you can pinpoint the exact moment they ran out of CGI budget?

The scene with Dany flying off on Drogon?

It was cheesy and poor, I have sympathy because they are mixing a CG Dragon, an actor as well as a green screen background. That is VERY hard to do, especially if they were running short on CG money. Still could of shot it better, we don't NEED a close up shot of Dany flying off.

Does anyone know what happened to Greyworm? He hasn't been seen or heard for weeks. I'm beginning to worry.

The Unsullied are supposed to be a highly trained militant force but can't stop about 50 people dressed in Halloween masks.

No one cares about Greyworm, his lack of dick or the awful filler story-line with the girl from Hollyoaks. Just caught up, episode 8 was fucking fantastic, probably the most enjoyable episode since season 1. The rest of the series has been a whole pile of average.

I believe he's back in training now. Will take until next series to get back to episode fitness though.

Do we know if this season's finale will be extended like the last few have been?

Does Sky Atlantic have breaks? They've got it in the hour timeslot, so unless they're not having any breaks then you'd assume the 40/45 odd minutes
