You may have read my post a couple of weeks ago regarding a surge from the fan base to raise money for the transfer budget next season. Today the initiative has been launched 'operation promotion' aiming to raise 20k in 6 weeks. Whatever the fans raise, a local lottery winner is going to match.

The campaign is 1Hr 30 mins old and has £5,500 from 61 donations so far, incredible effort.

You've served your time in that shithole league and deserve promotion. Especially after the heartache of losing the final. I know how that feels! Best of luck

Don't get why anyone would do this sort of crowdfunding.

You already charge £18 in, which is derisory at this level no matter how many clubs charge similarly.

Chester did similar in their Conference North season to sign Ben Mills and Lee Trundle up. Like that helped.

Because they're sick of being in a crap league with no funding so are trying to do something to help their club?
I despise the view that 18-20 quid is too much for conference football. How else are they meant to make money, having no funding from the league or TV rights etc? There's the argument that league football should cost less due to all the subsidies.

Aye why would anybody want to see the clubs promotion chances increased with at least 40k extra for the transfer budget?

Idiots, the lot of us.

Didn't the Trust put £5k in to start it off?

Not crap enough a league for Grimsby to find it easy to get out of despite five seasons of trying, despite being one of the biggest clubs to ever make the drop.:mell:

Maybe football clubs at this level can make the bold step towards being self-sufficient without ex-league fans crying that they used to get heavily subsidised, or has years of living alongside the likes of FGR, Fleetwood and Eastleigh warped your perceptions?

According to the Trust, their 5k is going in last. There was 2.5k from that guy who holds the signs up at the wrestling though apparently.

Fair play for the effort, but they've forgotten the golden rule of fan funded signings... they're always shit :D

Good luck to Grimsby, I don't see the problem with their supporters doing this it must be awful being an ex decent league club slogging it at that level.

Aye great idea, now already raised over 9k in a few hours, plus 5k from the trust and the Mullens matching anything over 20k, could end up adding 50-100k to the budget at this rate. Money doesn't equal promotion but it certainly helps, and shows what positivity there is running through the fans right now despite the wembley disappointment.

How significant would that be at Conference level? What kind of money are Eastleigh chucking around in comparison?

I'd say that it could be pretty significant. If this venture ends up raising £100k, that would add just over 10% to Grimsby's budget.
Eastleigh don't have a budget, they just have oodles of vision.

According to the article, the budget has already been increased by "well over 10%", too, so it could be a decent increase in total.

We don't need to be on the brink of extinction before fans will put there hands in their pockets unlike some clubs!

Sounds like the buckets are out.

This money is solely for the transfer budget. The idea came after Hurst said if we'd had the side we finished with we'd had won the league. He's dead right imo. We couldn't afford to keep that side for a season, this means we might.

11,500. With the trusts 5k still to go, we're 3/4 of the way there in 4 hours.

Crowds are expected to go up by 10% if we're near the top again. No reason we can't be. But yeah, I'm a firm believer in cutting your cloth.

Fans sticking by the players and the club after a brutal playoff defeat in an attempt to bounce back and finally finish the job, majorly tinpot yep. I look forward to celebrating our tinpottedness when we lift the tinpot trophy in May.

I remember us having a spell in the Conference where we did things to raise money for the 12th Stag and that went towards helping the club sign players. Over the few years we did it we made a fair few signings using this money and I think the last one we contributed too was Matt Green. Hope Grimsby finally come up this season!

Likewise.

We have a Share Scheme and Fans Player Scheme. Both are done on a standing order basis (although I think there might be a one-off payment on the FPS if you want). Minimum of £1/week (you can put in whatever you want) and once a month there's a draw for shirts, meals, gym membership, pints on match days, tickets, ST's (May-August for ST's) etc that have been donated by companies.

There are quite a few fundraising bits and pieces that supporters do but lots of smaller schemes as opposed to one main, focused one like this.

Fair play for sticking your neck on the line, I guess.
