"One of the biggest myths in football is Chelsea had shit attendances pre Abramovich.."

Someone needs to either word their claims properly, or they need to accept that 20 years of shit attendances is still shit attendances no matter how they desperately try to dress it up.

"One of the biggest myths in football is Chelsea had shit attendances pre Abramovich. Chelsea always had big attendances and i would estimate top 5 in the country".

The above post is FACTUALLY correct...............Chelsea are in the top 5 for having the highest average attendance in any one season.

Stop squirming i was correct and you were not !

A player like savage is in no place to be telling Terry how to do his job. Neville/Carragher/Ferdinand on the other hand are as they've had just as successful careers.

Savage at best should be a pundit for the Championship. He's fucking awful at it.

So you have to be a world class player to have an opinion that is respected? What about what fans think?

Not at all, but most fans don't respect his opinion either. He's a blowhard with little justification.

Perhaps it's expecting a little too much for you to understand what I'm talking about, never mind respond to the point I made about your wording. "Always had big attendances" you say, despite the fact they didn't as I showed.

You keep looking in that mirror toodles!

homophobia and racism was par for the course in football until the last 10 - 15 years...........it won't just be Savage who said such things.

John Terry in press conference, "I'll take criticism from the likes of Rio Neville and Carragher but not from people who haven't had a career...Robbie Savage being one".

Savage.

I guess your Captain, Leader, Legend doesn't care about any of you fans, despite your adoration.

The fans pay his wages, in part, so he'll respect their criticism or support. He's talking specifically about pundits.

The comment about Savage was funny, because Savage is arguably as big a bellend as Terry. Anyone can have an opinion though, in fact a lot of ex-footballers, even top class ones, come out with absolute drivel. Look at Shearer.

In answer to the question posed by this thread: yeah, maybe. He has some great strengths - he instills discipline, his sides are well drilled, well organised, with a strong work ethic; all very important qualities when it comes to winning titles. He's also very good at forging unity and creating a siege mentality - when faced with media criticism or poor form his sides generally remain resilient. However, I think his detractors might be on to something with the idea that his combustible temperament makes him ill-suited to the long-haul. You get the impression that things aren't always going to remain harmonious, that discord's always just around the corner, that he'll alienate people and that players will lose confidence in his methods. And as to his methods? I'm not altogether convinced anymore. The football's been pretty dire for the best part of a calendar year now which didn't especially matter when we were grinding out results at the back end of last season, but certainly does now that we've taken eleven points from as many games. The worst thing is that I'm sure he wasn't always like this. He might have always been naturally quite cautious but he was also capable of making bold tactical changes and seemed to favour what basically amounted to a pragmatic approach. He now seems to have developed a rigid philosophy which he rarely seems to deviate from, even if it plainly isn't working, isn't suited to the personnel at his disposal and unnecessarily shackles our attacking players. I actually find it a bloody chore to watch us a lot of the time which is rather depressing given how well we played in the opening half of last season.

In mitigation I think he's been failed a bit in terms of player recruitment. It's a decent first eleven, certainly decent enough to challenge for the Champions League, and, you would hope, the title, but there's not enough in reserve. There's not enough competition for places, and that's something that's going to come back to haunt you if your key players are out of form (if you think about last season we were overly reliant on Fabregas and Hazard for assists, the latter and Costa for goals - take them out of the equation and set-pieces were our best hope). Of course it would be absurd of me to moan about a lack of investment, but I do think if you want to remain among the European elite these days you have to make a concerted effort to keep improving your squad - that needn't mean a complete overhaul, but it does mean a couple of smart additions in key areas. I'm not sure whether it's a misguided attempt to keep ahead of FFP but we always seem to have these summers where we rest on our laurels and then find ourselves playing catch-up. When I think that we've let the likes of De Bruyne, Mata and Lukaku (all players who would massively improve this squad) go and brought in the likes of Cuadrado and Salah (both who barely featured before being swiftly despatched) then I can't help but feel that something's going badly wrong with our player recruitment and squad management. To some extent I can't help but feel some of these problems are also attributable to Mourinho. He seems to favour working with a small squad - witness the lack of rotation and relatively few players utilised during the last campaign. And, rather than to try accommodate them and work to their strengths, he also seems content to discard players who don't fit the Mourinho mould, or doesn't regard as being committed enough (which basically equates to being a sub all the time while the manager retains the same lineup for match after match).

I'm not entirely sure that any of this adequately explains why we're so feeble at the moment but it certainly looks to me as though he's lost the dressing room, so to speak. Personally, whatever my own feelings on the matter, I really can't see him remaining at the helm for very much longer.

Why the fuck do attendances matter?

We get twice what nearly every other L1 team gets and more than many championship clubs. We're still fucking shit and struggling to get out of L1 at the 5th attempt.
they don't but the cockney Kopite on here said Chelsea had shit attendances pre abramovic and i proved they are in the top 5 of all time highest average attendance per-season.

But roughly 300 games in the top flight is not a 'bad level'.

I can understand him being annoyed with Savage, but he could have chosen his words better.

It's disrespectful but absolutely fair game. If Savage earns a living slating players in public then John Terry is more than welcome to rip his credentials apart.

Of course Terry has the right to respond, but just because Savage hasn't won the Premier League or Champions League doesn't mean he's any less knowledgeable about the game.

Doesn't matter, Terry is saying he doesn't respect the opinions of blowhard pundits that never played at the elite level. If he thinks Savage's opinion is worthless he's entitled to say so. The only problem is the gormless Savage will somehow wear it as a badge of pride.
