Christ, he'll stop at nothing. He's even blaming the fans for the team being shit now!
Tbf that was last season....our support so far this season at home has been better than usual. Everyone's trying to get behind the team....shame the team aren't rewarding our efforts.

Afraid not. Well, unless the football was top flight, and even then not always. I'm sure it was all well and good decades ago but in the last 30-35 years it's less clear. Between 1979 and 1985 they were in the old division 2 and averaged around 18,000 a game. In 1983 the average was as low as 12,000. Then they were relegated again in 1988 and, following that in 1989, they averaged 15,000, again in the old division 2. But even in mid to late 90s when they regularly finished in the top 4 they averaged less than 30,000 in some seasons, well over 10,000 less than their capacity. Then after 2003 when Abramovich took over they averaged the 41,000 capacity every season and have done ever since (although there could be some massaging there ala Emirates). See table below.

Only Manchester United, Everton, Newcastle and Arsenal have had more highest average attendances in any one season than Chelsea. ( Villa get honourable mention too) tbf all of Chelsea's winning attendances for a season were pre Abramovic........which proves my point even more.

What happened with Eva Carneiro was shit from Mourinho. But if it didn't involve a woman (and I daresay, a visually appealing woman at that), would there be as big a deal being made out of it? By the press in particular?

And before mdb gets on my case, it's not a question based on any form of sexism. It's a good thing that it's getting so much attention. I just can't imagine the same happening if it was a male doctor who looked like Luke Chadwick. Unfortunately, it would likely have been forgotten about after a few days.
Anyone as high profile as Carneiro, yes, probably. Don't see why her being a woman would make the story more interesting.

It did involve a man, Jon Fearn, the other physio he publically criticized. But of course as you've kinda proved no one cares.
Fearn returned to work so there is no story.

A team of mercenaries will only play for money, once they're used to the huge increase in wages and become acclimatised to that amount of money then their efforts drop. Which will explain why cash clubs like yours have to refresh the squad so often. Huge overhaul in the summer and you'll be right as rain.

What have you become? I used to look forward to moderately witty retorts. You seem to have been reduced to the old "I know you are, you said you are, but what am I" school yard come backs. For shame BlueBee, for shame.

This really is very simple. You claimed it was a myth that Chelsea had shit attendances pre-Abramovich. I posted a list that showed, in 7 of the 12 seasons prior to him buying the club (whilst in the top flight and, in some seasons, finishing in the top four), the attendance averaged between 45 and 75 percent of the grounds capacity. A good example of this is 97/98. They had a good league campaign and finished 4th. However, the average attendance for that season was around 27,000. That is almost 15,000 short of capacity.

Mercenaries? As in highly-paid guns contracted to the highest bidder? Am I missing something here? Isn't almost every PL team built up of mercenaries? The fact that Chelsea have one or two longer-serving highly-paid guns contracted to the highest bidder surely doesn't change that.

A mercenary is a person who takes part in an armed conflict who is not a national or a party to the conflict and is "motivated to take part in the hostilities by the desire for private gain".

In other words, a mercenary is a player who plays for money instead of fighting for the ideological interests of a club

I would like to thank Wikipedia for this post.

I think he's using it more as an analogy. I think it was clear that he wasn't implying that other clubs were hiring unscrupulous assassins.

I've seen rumours—stemming from former Chelsea beat writer, Dan Levene—he'll be sacked after Stoke next weekend regardless of result. Any Chelsea fans familiar with Levene's reliability? Seems he used to write for a local Fulham publication.

Rodgers on a temporary contract to see the season out would be brilliant.
He is usually pretty spot on. Would make sense if they waited till then considering the international break the following weekend.

Ah, so when you say "pre-Abramovich" you mean the last 35 years need to be ignored when looking at average attendances? Makes sense!

It was her choice not to return to work though.

Didn't they begin reconstructing the east and west stand in '97? I seem to remember they demolished one of their stands in the mid 90's, which would affect attendance too.

I'd ask a Chelsea fan but none of them were alive during the 90's.

I think you're missing a question mark off the end there. But yes, accepted. Let's assume GB is right, there are other seasons there where Chelsea were in the top flight and barely filled a third of their ground. Shit attendance by anyone's standard.

I'm not. Still, it will be more fuel for his conspiracy theories and for him to shift blame to everyone else bar himself.

Anyone who looks at the table provided (a table I presume you still haven't looked at judging by your posts) will see you have proven no one wrong. But ignore the facts if you like, whilst pretending big clubs regularly only filled a third of their ground in the 80s. It certainly couldn't be applied to Liverpool like you claim, check your facts.
