Would be delighted with either of those. Those odds most likely mean nothing at all but I'm going to be optimistic and suggest that both have been contacted already. I imagine one of them is our preferred option. Could be completely wrong though. Excited to see what transpires tomorrow.

Cowley now 4/7. Seems like the bookies have about as much clue as we do.

Of course they have no idea, with a market this small it will be based on the bets being made. It will mean absolutely nothing.

Cowley has just released a video saying he's 100% committed to Lincoln.

I could write a thesis on the GTFC managerial selection process from 1973 onwards, but I'll just give an executive summary for those that can't be arsed to read the ramblings below - the hypothesis is - GTFC Boards are totally shit at appointing a competent manager after a manager has been poached. The answer is yes proven.

For those interested a bit of the main body of the thesis
...it could be argued there is an exception to this from 1979 when John Newman was poached by Derby. George Kerr was appointed and the following season the 3rd Division championship was won on the final day of the season with a 4-0 win over Sheffield United. With Joe Waters captaining a team full of an incredible glut of local talent, I would argue that Mrs Kerr could have taken that team up. Kerr was actually a crap manager and took us to the bottom of the league and every other club he managed to relegation including, Lincoln into the Conference.

So every appointment after a manager has been poached (or has left of own volition like Dave Booth) has been followed by a disastrous appointment. Ron Ashman after McMenemy (WTF did we appoint a failed Scunthorpe manager?), Kerr after Newman, Mike L*ons after Dave Booth, Brian Laws after Alan Buckley, Paul Groves after Lenny Lawrence and Graham Rodger after Russell Slade. Paul Groves reign included the ITV digital collapse, so some may argue he didn't get a fair crack, but he was given some slack after the first relegation, he then proceeded to fill the squad with total dross.

In summary, in the 45 years I've supported GTFC we've had 4 really good managers, Lawrie McMenemy, John Newman, Alan Buckley, Russell Slade and potentially Paul Hurst. Lennie Lawrence wasn't really at GTFC long enough to make a judgement, he will be remembered though for the 2-1 win at Anfield. Hurst may kick on - we shall see.

More importantly, will the above litany of total feck-ups continue...

Have to pick you up on calling Brian Laws a disaster, of course it ended badly after the Bonetti right hook but for a good year or so we were playing fantastic football under Laws, some of the best i have ever seen us play.

Averaged just over a point a game, borderline relegation form, plus the Bonetti incident which should have seen him sacked immediately. Groves probablyt hardest done by in what I've written above, we were playing really good stuff and crowds were on the up the season before ITV Digital collapse. We had a decent squad - who knows what might have happened if that hadn't left a £2 million hole in our accounts

Interviews started this week and the only one that's leaked is Marcus Bignot from Solihull Moors.

Wouldn't be terribly disappointed. Young and on the up, he originally signed Bogle and even got promoted after losing him last year. The only success we've had in years came from appointing a similar manager(s). I think most would prefer someone with league experience though.

Depends where that league experience comes from, if its the likes of Wilcox then give up and coming managers from non league any day of the week.

If its the like of Adkins then yes please, but lets be honest we aren't likely to get someone like that so again give me Bignot.

Our only successful managers in the last 20ish years all came to us from non league in Buckley (Kettering), Slade (Scarborough) and Hurst (Boston)

Looks like Dave Jones and Graham Westley (yes, really) have also been interviewed.

Cheers for the info.

For Westley, see Robins, except maybe a bit more successful. Bit of a dick too, by all accounts.

I'd never heard of Dave Jones before this week but 3 years out of work doesn't seem all that promising.

Looking like Marcus Bignot who is now 1/8 for the job.

CLUB STATEMENT: MARCUS BIGNOT
*Solihull Moors issue update on manager Marcus Bignot*

Solihull Moors has granted permission to Grimsby Town to speak to Marcus Bignot about their vacant managerial position.

The Board wishes to place on record that whilst it would not wish to stand in the way of an individual's ambition, it is eager to retain the services of Bignot to continue the progression he has made at the club in his five-year tenure.

It is hoped that the talks will reach a swift resolution to ensure minimum disruption for all parties and the club will endeavour to update supporters in due course.

There will be no further comment until this matter is resolved

Graham Westley comes across in interviews as a dick but people who have met him say he is a personable, engaging person.

Crap football teams though.

Dave Jones was the great hope for English management then some scurrilous charges seemed to derail his career...well that and a couple of bad choices.

It looks as though there's a good chance it will be Bignott. It sounds patronising but I hope, if he gets it, he does a decent job.

I think that sounds terrible...

...Marcus Bignot's Black and White Army - doesn't do it fir me.

Actually for the reason above, I'd rather go up and coming if slightly risky than league track record but more hungry for a pension than anything else. He must have good coaching support though. That is where I'd worry we might skimp, especially with the rumours about Hurst's reason for fecking off to a tinpot in a shiny stadium...

Hopefully works out, could be a risk on paper, but would rather someone like Bignot who is highly regarded lower down, working his way up the leagues rather than some of the names mentioned like Wilcox.

Lets hope he is given time like Hurst was, even if we are mid table for a season or two establishing ourselves as a good league 2 side again, and maybe push on for the play-offs/promotion rather than going backwards and fighting relegation again.

Very happy with this and while I didn't consider him to start with, I don't think there's any realistic candidate I'd rather have. Similar to Hurst in that he relishes in building a strong team spirit plus he wants that same bond with the fans, which will be nice to have run both ways for once. He knows everything there is to know about Omar Bogle so hopefully he can help him develop further. Whether he can attract a high calibre of player or not remains to be seen but as we've seen before, a hard working, close-knit team can be as successful as anyone.

I will happily watch us sit in mid-table for a few seasons if that's what it takes, but I'm quite optimistic. I think in the long run he will be a much better fit for us than Hurst was.

Once when I was younger and more immature I called Marcus Bignot 'Marcus Bignut' from the East Stand as he went to take a throw, believe he was playing for Rushden and Diamonds at the time. He glanced over his shoulder and Carlisle went on to win. I have the measure of this man.

Really pleased with this, very similar mould to Hurst and looks to be well regarded in the game too.

I think he will have a lot more contacts in the game than Hurst did, and he seems to finally want to build a relationship with the fans (something Hurst was woeful at).

Overall really pleased, can we have a winger now please?

I believe Rhys Browne is rather useful...
