We didn't get around to doing a match thread for our boxing day match, more's the pity since we played well and had limited opportunity to gloat. Naturally the fact I've now created a match thread means we'll fail to turn up to this game.

Coventry fans' opinion of their own team seems to be at odds with how everyone else sees them. On paper and in the league they look like a good side were fancied to go straight back up and still look on course to be part of the automatic promotion race, they beat us well at the Ricoh and like the majority of their opponents this season we'll be approaching this as one of the toughest matches we'll play.

Their fans seem to be predicting mid-table anonymity though and seem to expect to lose more often than not. I don't know what they're seeing, I don't see Coventry week in week out but they sound a bit like us at this point last season, talking about an impending drop down the table even though we'd done very well up to then.

I'd stick with an unchanged line-up from the Accrington game. There may be an argument for bringing Tom Miller or O'Sullivan in for Brown as Brown may be leaving us soon and didn't look at his best yesterday but it's still probably best we just stick with a winning team. That means another opportunity for Bennett to have one of his occasional half-decent games but Hopefully Shaun Miller's appearance from the bench in the second half will be inevitable and not come too late.

We're somehow 7th despite being garbage all season.

Fancy us to lose 1/2-0.

Yeah you’ve fucked it now. Never change a winning formula. We’ve won our last 2 home games with no match thread, so you go and make one for this.

The blame will be firmly placed at your door on Saturday night.... unless of course Curle tries to be clever and recalls Etuhu and Joyce for Devitt and Lambe.

Lower half of the table away from home? Guaranteed loss to nil with 2 shots on goal maximum.

2-0 Carlisle.

Looks a likely casualty of the weather what with Carlisle being in Scotland. It's going to be bad up there.

After a great performance against Accrington, can we follow it up with another just days later and make it 3 on the spin? Hope so, wouldn't move us up the table too much but it would put us right in the middle of that group of playoff chasers.

I think the only team who'll definitely maintain their position at the top is Luton (Notts County probably but capable of a collapse with a couple of injuries in my opinion), so anybody could go up.

Coventry have underperformed despite being top seven and will be there for the taking, though they're just as likely to win comfortably if we don't turn up.

Optimistic 2-1

Any chance of it being called off? Do not fancy the long trip on a Tuesday.

Interesting aside. Notice the Coventry forum has the usual posts about you have to be really dedicated to do Carlisle away, hoping the fans making the mammoth trek are rewarded etc etc.

Coventry is our ninth closest opponent this season.

Shoddy with Cov being slap bang in the middle of the country we are quite spoilt regarding away trips. The Carlisle trip is always seen as the sign of how big a supporter you are by making the trip, that and Plymouth.
I don my hat to all Carlisle away fans, most trips are huge day long commitments, it's something I do admire.
I've never looked into this but would you do less miles if you were in the SPL ?

Since Jones has been injured we've been ineffective away from home, really miss his pace on the counter. Carlisle are doing well though I think so no doubt we turn up and win then lost to Chesterfield new years day.

I'd put my mortgage on a home loss to Chesterfield. We have a great record against top nine but absolutely shocking against bottom nine
Oh to be a Cov fan

After 3 good performances and wins, I’m expecting us, in typical Carlisle United fashion, to lose this game 3-0.

Agreed, seems a world away for us, which is why most people don't seem to bother.

I'm en route now though, not too confident for this one.

Biggest police presence I've seen for a Coventry game in years.

Cannot understand it, our lowest following of the season and hardly a big game.

Complete waste of police resources.

Typical of us. String some wins together, fans get optimistic.... then we produce that.

First half we shaded the play but created nothing because we are toothlessly shit. Second half was a disgrace and Coventry deserved the win.

Cheers Shoddy, it’s all your fault.

Didn’t seem that unusually big to me, unless it was all round the away end entrance?

In the town centre. At least 6 police horses, 2/3 officers at the entrance of every pub. Must have been 10 or so officers at the station.

Apparently it was the highest category police presence according to an officer I spoke to.

I take full responsibility for that shit-show. I've seen us play much worse than that, in terms of games where we were totally outclassed. But I don't think I've ever seen us play that just that sloppily before, misplaced passes, clumsy fouls, overhit crosses, caught in no mans land, Coventry players uncontested going forward and dispossessing us with ease. Reminded me of that time we played York when half our team were hungover.

I can see why Coventry fans are frustrated with their team, had it not been for how bad we were, and that cock-up for the goal, it didn't really look like they had the attacking in them to win, and we could well have won had we played how we did in our last two home games.

once they got the goal though they didn't really have to do a lot to see out the win, just keep their shape, defend and counter, it was easy for them.

only Bonham came out with any credit, though I thought Hope was doing OK, fans made him enemy number one after an overhit pass in the box went out for a goal kick but he didn't do much else wrong, some of our fans will just never like him. Bennett was doing OK in the first half but as the game wore on he started making his usual mistakes. Can't criticise the subs too much, thought Etuhu had a positive impact. The midfield three were especially poor.

we just have to try and put this behind us and play much better against Mansfield.

They’ll have just been getting the practice in for next week when Sheff Wed turn up - either that or they just seen an opportunity for a bit of extra overtime over Xmas. It was massively over the top against Port Vale the other week too, although that was more to do with Dundee Utd and Hartlepool being in town.

As for today, fucking shite.

Why were Dundee United in town? Hartlepool I get cos they were on their way to their FA Trophy match...

Such a disappointing performance, didn't deserve anything and never looked like scoring. Coventry looked quite good but still only scored from a defensive howler, they probably should've grabbed another couple after that.

Bennett is utterly useless, doesn't win headers and has a shocking first touch. Jones and Devitt so poor after Boxing Day, Lambe anonymous.

Interesting to read quotes from Mark Robins complaining about the pitch being shit. That’s something we never get complaints about and our ground staff regularly win awards for the quality of it. Have to say it didn’t look to be a problem when I was watching the game yesterday.

I get the impression that if Michelle Keegan turned up naked at Mark Robins’ office and started sucking him off he’d still find something to complain about.

Forgot to mention that some of Coventry's antics were a bit surprising, how many times did their players go down yesterday?

It's quite rare for a winning manager to then moan about a poor pitch or anything else comes to think of it.
He does moan sometimes when we lose but not every time we lose and has complimented teams in the past.
I just wish managers would just say we lost because they scored more than us then just keep their mouths shut.
If it was a bad pitch it's still the same for both clubs ,end of and what team purposely prepares a bad pitch.
I think he was not looking forward to the long journey home and that was why he was in a mood.
