As I understand it, Hasselbaink is red-hot favourite for Barnsley. With Blackpool now interested, I can't see Duff going to the Tykes, and I can see him going to Blackpool. He's got property in Lancashire, his kids were born there, so it's as logical a move for him as any. Our squad was gash under Gary Johnson, and Duff got playoff form out of them when he first came in.

I've always been of the belief that the club have irons in the fire for this inevitability. I thought Duff would give us one more season but, given what he's done for the club, I certainly won't begrudge him a move to the league above.

Assuming he doesn't go with Duff, Wade Elliott would be favourite for our hotseat. He's been Duff's right hand man, but he apparently only got the job because he wanted to live closer to Bristol.

Their squad is gash, Critchley worked wonders last season. It'll take someone very good to follow him.

They don't have any money unless they sell first it seems either for this season*. Add in the screwing around with the Kirk transfer, and it was bad enough last year with their woeful efforts to sign Cam Brannagan in both transfer windows when his release clause is hardly secret. They can't be getting a good reputation for their efforts around transfers.

*I will say fair play that they are diverting money into a training ground so looking longer term and not shit or busting it as well.

They fucked around paying the agreed rate for Owen Dale too. Their owner isn't that rich in football terms so it's likely a £30m outlay will impact them for 5, 6 seasons, maybe more.

Still, it's Blackpool, there's no training ground or 4th stand untill it's actually built.

Why would Barnsley want JFH? His sides are as streaky as Lee Johnson's!

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is staying at Burton Albion
That’s me not going again then. I won’t spend another penny there until he is gone. Looks like Lichfield city will be getting my money next season.
Many more feel the same. He will be gone by Xmas I am sure. Fans are turning against him.

Us coming up against Garner again next season should be fun. He was absolutely raging that we didn’t water the pitch last time we played them. Should do that one against him again if something like that rattles him so easily.

Yep, this fella...

He's had 6 months at Wigan and the rest of his career in betting. Seems an odd appointment to me.

Why would he leave Championship Wigan for League Two Swindon after such a short stint? Will watch with interest how things unravel. Your new manager appointment will be telling.

7 weeks until the season starts and we still don't know if we have a manager and we haven't made any signings....I'm not normally one to panic but I pray to god we have a plan in place because this is taking far too long

I’m starting to get nervous as well. No signings and we haven’t even extended contracts of our out of contract players, who were our best players last season.

Add to that, the day the players return to training Barton is back on court…

Could all go pear shaped very quickly I can’t help but feel

I think the season starting a week earlier has got everyone a bit paranoid.

Duff's situation is annoying, but it shouldn't have too much bearing on signings. Whilst Duff has a say in player recruitment, he has said in numerous interviews that he leaves that side of things to Mickey Moore. It's Moore who finds the required players, and it's Moore who negotiates the deals. Whilst not knowing who the Head Coach is going to be may be a negative, it's up to Moore to assure any future signings that if Duff is not here then the prospective Head Coach will play a certain way and have similar belief.

I'm sure it was in Moore's interview with our local journalist a few months back where he said he wants the club to create a culture, a style of play whereby a change of Head Coach wouldn't necessarily result in a change of said culture. Whoever replaces Duff will be expected to be of the same mould as Duff.

In any case, it looks like Blackpool want Liam Rosenior and Barnsley are still keeping their heads stuck in the sand.

I would be staggered if a player in demand would sign for a club while the Manager/Head Coach position is uncertain. Good players just won’t sign no matter the structure unless the money on offer is ridiculous or they are desperate. A few clubs will find themselves in similar positions this summer.

You will however get players who are just ‘happy to be there’ due to the aforementioned reasons who aren’t necessarily in demand take the opportunity at any cost because they need a club. As much as I’m sure supporters would like to think otherwise, one or two bad moves at this level can render a players career done so they’ll want to know who they are playing for.

The market overall seems very very quiet.

There hasn’t been many signings in league one and maybe our league finishing earlier than others it seems longer than usual.

Lots of players still on holiday but with pre-season a week away tomorrow next week should really pick up.

I certainly hope so. Our players are back in for fitness testing on Wednesday I think and then flying off to Portugal on Friday or Saturday for a training camp.

Evatt said he wanted to get all the recruitment sorted before the squad heads to Portugal, seems unlikely atm.

Here’s to hoping for a busy week.

Liam Rosenior seems pretty much nailed on for Blackpool.

My Barnsley supporting friend seems to think they're announcing a new manager today and Duff's odds have shortened (I can't find any odds this morning).

If he's off, then so be it, I just want the saga over now - we gave them permission to speak to him about 3 weeks ago!!

I hope not - the wife's birthday is the 28th so I'll be expected to take her out with the kids on the 30th. I don't see her being happy with me saying it'll be when I get back from the football.

I'm hoping for someone like Burton away on the opening day - a game I really couldn't care less about.

Is Duff a bit of a kick & rush, high press, playing the percentages manager like Valerien Ismael? Makes sense if so considering how successful that style was for them.

I seem to remember people saying Cheltenham scored a lot from long throws and corners when they were promoted? Although that's not exactly uncommon in L1 & 2.
