I know you seem fairly blasé in general on here but with the combination of losing your best players and now your manager I would be maybe a tad worried.

My blasé attitude comes from the fact that as long as we have a club to watch I'll be happy. We got relegated to the Conference in 2015. If we didn't come back we may have been forced to go part-time. The earliest we can do that again is 2024. I've got at least two more years of Football League football to enjoy.

Not only that, but we're where we are having done it without spending money we don't have, or depending on a sugar daddy. There's loads to be proud of.

If we go down, I'll still be going to Whaddon Road next season, and that's all that matters in the grand scheme of things.

Cheltenham Town have been extremely successful in recruiting from within their own family [Martin Allen aside]. Steve Cottrell secured two promotions and Michael Duff secured another.
Wade might not have played for Cheltenham but he does have local connections having played for Bristol City and FGR [albeit in pre-season friendlies] and was their Academy Manager for a season.
If Wade does become new Cheltenham manger, I wish him all the best.

I'm sceptical now - Russell Milton has been named interim until a permanent manager is appointed.

The tweet from Jon Palmer states that none of Duff's backroom staff are going with him to Barnsley - that doesn't necessarily mean Wade is staying.

Early days so we'll see what occurs. Just so long as Russ isn't given it on a full-time basis.

Also - Cotterill got 3 promotions and a win at Wembley.

Agree with Si on Wade Elliott, he'd be the logical choice and the one I'd go with if he'd take it - knows the club, the players and the way we play. There aren't too many other inspiring options from the names I've seen mentioned so far.

Sure I remember going to a game when you play Dorchester Town (at Dorchester) in the early /mid 90s.

And also think St Albans played a 1st round FA cup tie around the same time ( you won 2-1 )

Add in the screwing around with the Kirk transfer, and it was bad enough last year with their woeful efforts to sign Cam Brannagan in both transfer windows when his release clause is hardly secret. They can't be getting a good reputation for their efforts around transfers.

*I will say fair play that they are diverting money into a training ground so looking longer term and not shit or busting it as well.

I reckon we have seen the beginning of the end of the old style managers. Head coach is the way clubs are going now and it's sensible, much less disruption.

Our chairwoman has told fans at the business breakfast this morning that Evatt has turned down approaches for interviews from QPR, Blackpool and Blackburn this summer. Wants to stay and really build something. Delighted with that as he has really close affiliations with QPR and Blackpool. Him and the back room staff are our biggest assets at the moment and would be incredibly difficult to replace. Expectations have definitely risen for this season (especially after only losing 3 of last 22 in second half of last season) but a lot of good teams in this league now.

Our new head coach is between two apparently, with a decision set to be made today (I doubt it'll be announced though).

The rumour mill is that it's between Wade Elliott and Matt Taylor (no word on which one, but I highly doubt it's the Exeter one). Not really inspiring. These are just based on the odds last night, which have been taken down this morning.

As has been pointed out though, Michael Duff never appeared on any of the odds lists when we appointed him.

He's turned down Championship clubs to stay with us, and also clubs closer to his North West roots. He's on decent money, which will probably be improved shortly, but could have easily forced a move and doubled his wages if all he was motivated by was money. He turned down a new contract at Liverpool to join us, as he wanted first team football, and his relationship with Karl Robinson (who coached him as a kid at Liverpool) is very important. He also feels he has unfinished business at Oxford, due to being close to promotion three times now, and wants to achieve it with us. There is absolutely no chance he would go to another League One club.

If we miss out on promotion again, then in 12 months time I think we may possibly lose him. But it will be to a club in the Championship, or above, and it will need to be a career defining move for him. It'll hopefully be for a fee considerably in excess of his current release clause.

Ditto this.

It's common knowledge that playing regular football, loyalty and home life appear to be very important to him. CamBran should be nowhere near any League One club. I think OUFC can consider themselves very lucky to still have him.

Championship move. I can see that, albeit with a heavy heart. Another League One club? Not a hope. He's a rare breed.

Added to the above from GeneralLee is the fact that a couple of years ago Cam had a very rare eye problem, that could have resulted in not just the end of his career, but the loss of his sight. The club stood by him, helped him through it, and got him the best medical assistance available anywhere, all while shielding a lot of this from the media and public which is something that he feels extremely grateful for and explains in part his loyalty.

I was purely saying that as an Ipswich fan, I’d like to see him play for us if Celina didn’t return as I rate him. In an ideal world, Celina signs anyway and in which case it’s all irrelevant as he’s better than Brannagan. I do rate your lad though.

Really? I don't think so. Yes, he has his moments but day in day out as a consistant performer I'd take Brannagan over him anytime.
