Is it time for a 'Managerial Merry go round' thread?

Have to say whilst people are fed up of the constant changing of managers - mainly due to the fact it brings bad PR and shows we don’t really know what sort of manager we want there isn’t exactly annoyance or anger that Edward has gone.

Many saying he looked out of his depth and limited tactically.

Certainly after recent results there has been a lot of negativity.

Wierd isn't it, a lot of Rovers fans say that our current manager has only one tactic and struggles when that doesn't work...they said the same of Edwards, who was largely found out two thirds into last season but we had built up a sufficient lead to ensure that little better than relegation form still got us promoted...they said the same thing about Mark Cooper, who was here before Edwards...it seems a fairly common criticism. Makes you wonder why some of the critics don't work as football managers...whilst Burchnall, Edwards and Cooper do?

He liked to play 3-5-2 with us .

Only problem was we didn’t sign a natural wing back meaning Edwards had to play a left back out of position on the right and a left winger at LWB ( suppose that isn’t so outrageous given the England manager did that the other night )

Plus we had a few injuries so he was a bit unlucky in someways .

But then our owners obviously aren’t very sympathetic!

Classic Italians - this is common place in Italy .

So many managers in a short period of time .

Still can’t get my head round the fact neill left yous for them. Baffling. He will be gone in a year, they get rid of managers all the time. What a prick.

That’s life i suppose. He doesn’t like the model of us going down the young players route and him not having final say on signings, rumours he wanted more experienced players in before the start of the season, a few of his old preston chums were linked. I’ll be grateful forever to him for getting us out of league one, simply because all other managers failed that remit with good squads. We’ve brought some very exciting young players in who all came on at Watford and played very well with Jewison Bennette scoring, he has just scored twice for costa rica last week as well. Hopefully better times ahead for us.

Edwards and Cooper are light years better tactically than feckin Burchnill!

People starting to say the deal is done and Bonner is off to Rotherham. Would obviously be sad if true, the first thing that's always said about Bonner is that he is a local lad, loves the club, and talk about how long he's been at the club and all the different job roles he's had. I think alot of our support probably think it'd take much more for him to go because of this.

He's a talented young coach, but he does still have alot to work on. The few criticisms fans have had of him is his decision-making and lack of plan b in games. Would obviously be interesting to see if he can replicate what he has done outside the bubble he has here.

Replacement wise if Bonner does go, I believe we have been training up Barry Corr as a potential replacement in the future. If it's too soon for him then Gary Waddock is Bonner's assistant and could be looked on to take the reigns for a short spell at least. This though relies on them not following Bonner to Rotherham.

Whoever is in charge is going to have a big challenge ahead next summer, when over half the team's contracts run out.

We felt the same when Duff to Barnsley started gaining traction.

Bonner to Rotherham feels a bit like when Cowley went to Huddersfield in the sense of leaving the Club fairly well placed when moving up a league themselves but the potential to be back in L1 next season albeit at one with a higher ceiling.

Most of the talk about it being a done deal seems to be coming from Rotherham, since then though people from our end have been told he's going to be doing the pre-match press conference on Thursday morning ahead of the game on Saturday. Which is interesting because he didn't do that last week.

I’d be amazed if he turns it down. Would be a great job for him and he deserves it. I’d be gutted though and really hope we’d look outside the club for a replacement.

If he does decide to come I can only apologise for us doing the same as Derby have done to us. IMHO there should be a window for managers the same as players.

I'm not as confident as you are that it will happen, he has a safe job and a settled family life in a lovely part of the country.

It’s frustrating but I’ve been expecting him to leave ever since we won promotion. As a club we’re not used to this at all as it will only be our second managerial change in 17 years.

The only thing that may stop him moving is that he’s gone a newborn but equally, opportunities to move into the Championship aren’t guaranteed so he may feel it’s too good to turn down. Don’t know much about Rotherham Utd, but I gather you’re a well run club and would give him time too?

Also, I think Taylor is frustrated at our trust model limits where he can take us. I think he’s a gonner, but who knows.

Without a director of football we’ll be relying on Vince and Staelens plus the rest of our board of non footballing knowledge Ecotricity executives, the likes of Asif Rehmanwala, Chris Wintle and Paul Wheatcroft etc (if they’re all still there) to pick a new manager.

So not sure much will happen on that front yet until we get a new DoF, and if it does happen before then no confidence they’ll make a good appointment anyway.

No idea what happened TBH, according to people who usually know what's going on at the club the deal was agreed, then he changed his mind.

Could be a family thing but only he knows obviously.

We probably were peaking and the only way is down, maybe he didn't believe in himself enough?
Loyalty may come into it but it's not usually a driving force in football matters.

I took it as saying that if it was purely a footballing decision he'd go straight away, but he needed to fully discuss it with his family.

That said, given we haven't heard either way implies to me he's going and they're waiting for contracts to be signed before announcing it.

We're pretty much the same on the budget front, so I guess Taylor has form on that front and it's a good fit. If you're stuck at a club with a low budget for its league that's unlikely to go higher, you might as well do it up a division on a higher wage.

Obviously wish him and you well if he does go. Another club on my list of results to look out for!
