From the ongoing farce that is the latest "Next Wycombe Manager" odds market:

:ffs:

how much compensation would we have to pay Barrow if we steal their new manager after 4 days? :pond:

And I know it would be ridiculous to get one's knickers in a twist over the random names that appear on this list, but Evatt...please no.
May as well stick with the caretaking team, expected you to have better options as you are doing well and have a billionaire throwing cash around

well yeah, that was the conspiracy theory on our forum, that they barely even bothered to try and stop Bloomfield leaving because they had a yes-man lined up and all ready to go - who would be happy with a narrower "head coach" role, just working with a data-driven approach and limited control over signings.

But no, it seems we are flailing about in the market, a few random Scandis have been mentioned in addition to the usual suspects (Buckingham, Schumacher etc) but no-one's any the wiser as to who the real favourite is.

Yeah at first you guys all wanted him out, then he was the best thing since google and signed a new contract, then this season he was shit again. Whats the current view on him I cant keep up! :bg:
That’s football fans for you!

I think the majority are behind him with the odd few who want him out. At times we are boring to watch but we can’t complain at being a solid enough L1 team and we’re also doing well in the cups. Hope he stays a while longer, personally.

There’s a strong rumour we have landed Gary ONeil as new manager. Didn’t even feel he was an option in league 1. Was hoping for Schumacher but ONeil possibly a stronger appointment? Would take either.

He has added to his backroom staff this morning adding Mark Hughes [not that one] who he worked with at Plymouth and stoke, but added Ritchie Kyle who was Edwards assistant at Luton
So not a yes man like we have had the last few years

Kyle was one of 2 assistants but it’s understood his main focus was out of possession shape which gradually went from a strength of ours in the championship promotion season, in my view largely because Nathan Jones had ingrained a way of playing so deep it outlived him leaving, too an absolutely chronic issue for us this. We were and remain an absolute mess out of possession and that was apparently Kyle’s responsibility.

He had Chris Cohen, one of our coaches, at Stoke as well. Not sure whether anything is likely to happen there.

Sunderland Echo is reporting that Mike Dodds, assistant head coach at Sunderland, is off to be new Wycombe head coach.

No idea if this is true or not, but it sort of makes sense in as much as ours is no longer a old-school manager role where you get full control of signings and basically everything on the football side (as it was when Matt Bloomfield came into the job), but a pure "coaching" role under a director of football.

He's been interim head coach of Sunderland several times (the chance seems to come up regularly with the amount of guys they sack...).

Not sure what to make of it, and no objective way to judge his credentials, but we'll see I guess.

He had a long spell in the role last season and struggled but maybe a bit of a tough period of uncertainty .

Mike Dodds confirmed.

Hard to know what to make of it really but I guess the guy knows his place and that he will have a limited say in the overall running of the club, not like an old-school manager.

Aren't you investing a lot more into the academy etc? Given his track record of working with young players it's an interesting appointment

We appointed Scott Rusk for that role four years ago and it was an unmitigated disaster, which led to Challinor coming in with a more traditional managerial role (oversight of signings). I really don't think that separation of roles will work in English football like it does on the continent.

Is he American?

nope - likes his baseball caps though it seems

Yes, that's the angle we'll have gone for, the aim is ultimately to have a Category 1 academy in place, churning out hot prospects to move on, but it takes time to build up to that level.

You could be right, we haven't got a choice though, our owner is a billionaire tech-bro and the whole aim of him buying the club is to use new data methods to turn us into Moneyball FC. Guess we just have to go with it.
