I'm not sure it will be broken for a while now , with Chesterfield gone there are only 4 clubs who average over 4k gates . All the others pretty much under 3k .

Maybe Southend & Oldham could do good numbers , potentially York & Hartlepool to but it would take them playing each other in the final I guess ? Still not sure any of those would reach 47k though

Southend v Oldham maybe ?

Nobody is beating 47,000 imo. That was almost as many as the L1 playoff that same season and comfortably more than the L2 final.

Last season's National League playoff final at 38,000 was also bigger than the League Two equivalent.

Don't think we'd have hit 47k last year with Chesterfield but the train strikes really did make it a lot less appealing to go for casual fans, the coach prices got ridiculous too.

@Vale Fans, is the Ryan Burge pilot license, plane flight, banner all true. Or made up?

I have everything crossed that it is the former and all true. If so, that is awesome, legendary stuff.

His part in it is made up. Stoke fans did pay to fly a plane with a banner over on Saturday (it was done to them when they went down from the PL so alls fair there) so that bit happened but to be honest not many in the ground actually saw it. Burge wasn’t flying it though.

Yeah at least fly it over the top of the stadium so we could all see it! Only the Stokies! all that money and there wasn't any reaction.

What reaction were they looking for? Booing? Tears? Slow hand clap?

Surely they were just taking the piss and rubbing it in? Saying that I'm surprised they punched down but it reinforces the rivalry between the two clubs?

I meant, you spend £100's pounds and no one gave a toss and 90% of fans couldn't see it! but its all good fun, we did it to them in 2018, could of tried something of their own thinking.

The rivalry is always there, look at the carnage of the Pizza Cup game a few years back, was looking at one point that next season would see the El Ceramico back but alas not to be! Still if we dont play the unbeaten run against them remains intact.

90%?!? Jesus they must have got the wrong stadium or the pilot got lost

I do wonder how much it costs because it's been very popular over the years. What are the alternatives? Everybody copies everybody who's done it before, like the generic songs every club copies. What it does show is they still care.

I am sure someone quoted about £800 in 2018 when we had planned a fly over against our owners. But it never went ahead like most of our other protest ideas...

We did a flyover when we played MK for the first time in the FA Cup. A long time ago so probably considerably cheaper than now.

With inflation and cost of fuel compared to 2018, it will surely have cost Stoke fans a lot more. I'm all for it though, just think they could have thought of a better message instead of copying off Vale. I didn't go the game, live about a mile from the ground and could see it circling.

Can't believe how many have fallen for the Burge story though. Actual journalists believe it too. In all seriousness though, I don't join in the pile on on Burge. He's clearly not well. It's been 11 years and he just can't let it go. He was a good player too. Shame.

Solihull for me. Bromley sound like a shithousery version of Sutton Utd and harder to get to for us.

Whichever team it is, I never thought I'd see the day we would be in the same league as either of them.

Thank God Chesterfield got their act together this season

Didn't realise Bromley took that many to that, that's impressive to be fair. Similar to Wrexham though, in the last 5 seasons we've spent in the NL we've been to Wembley 4 times and West Ham once when they decided to not play the play off final at Wembley. Our playoff final in 2014/15 holds the attendance record for a NL match I believe.

I'm torn about which of these clubs I want to come up. Been once to both of them already and Bromley would be my second easiest match to get to from my home in Kent and I doubt I'd go to Solihull again whereas Bromley I definitely would. However, I cannot abide the deranged lunatic on the touchline for the home team. The man has a ridiculous chip on his back regarding us for no real reason so I don't want to see him succeed. I don't think I can face losing to Bromley and having their players sprint to the other side of the pitch to celebrate in front of us after every goal again.
Bromley were not as bad this season, they absolutely schooled us at The Vic, really good side. We did beat them at theirs but they definitely weren't as shithousey as usual. Woodman seems to like us though and has openly admitted he'd like our manager's job so maybe he's got no axe to grind as he seems to with some clubs.

Honestly if I was a L2 fan, I'd take Bromley over Solihull any day, at least the former can muster 2k + at home,

We took 17k to the Millenium Stadium years ago and have missed several chances to play Wembley because of re-development and Covid. I think we'd take at least what we did to Wales if not 20k ish. There would be a lot of local interest.

Absolutely loved the games at the Millenium Stadium. Was a cracking day out down there, would say I preferred it to Wembley.

We did a flyover at Hull when we won the then League 3 title in 2004. We had to put up with the Media and their fans going on all season about them being the best team and we never got a mention. Basically everybody else is late to the party

Bristol Rovers outnumbered us ,they had around 28k us 19k if i remember correctly
Pretty sure that was still in the heady days of the Vanamara Big Day Out so there use to a decent neutral section. Seem to think the figures were more like 26k for Rovers, 14k for us and 7k neutrals but I could be wrong…

Agreed - loved my two trips to the Millennium. Town centre stadium, easy to get to and away from - what's not to like?

Wembley in 2012 was shite.

The results might play a part in fairness.

I enjoyed Wembley but the result may have played a part and it wasn't so good when I went to see England lose to Croatia! Cardiff it hammered down all day!

We had Box Park though which was decent enough atmosphere wise, all be it a bit strange seeing Lee Hughes walk in wearing his match worn shirt from when he played for us and start doing the Hughesy! Random that was!

That sounds more of what I would have expected from Town tbh, 19,000 seemed impressively high.

I've done both Cardiff and Wembley for playoff finals, both are great. Atmosphere with the roof closed in Cardiff was incredible and great close location to all the city's bars to celebrate afterwards. Great experience and got to meet Chris Waddle pre game which was a bonus.

However, Wembley is special be it the old one or the new one. If you are the chosen (bigger) club and get BoxPark prior to kickoff that certainly adds to the experience as the reviews from Notts fans last season were very complimentary. Our group chose a row of pubs a short overground ride from the stadium and the pub was a great mix of Chesterfield and Notts fans pre kick off.

And obviously the end result doesn't do any harm when you triumph.

Southend can easily pull 30,000 by themselves to be fair. They played us in the paint pot trophy a few years ago and they had over 30k fans at Wembley.

Jeez! That's incredible potential, so 13,000 Crewe turned up that day.

So Southend Vs Oldham could in fact challenge it.

Hoping Southend get back in the league , went there a few times a good away day with a proper old school ground . Oldham fans seem the sort who think they are too big to be down there so let them stay for a while.

Agreed, the “we were once good” approach is like that bloke at the beginning of the shawshank redemption when he gets battered by the guards for saying he doesn’t belong here, that’s the best analogy i can use for the conference.

You only get out of the conference once you admit you’re conference.
